RE: Hwy 550 from Durango to Ouray, Colorado

No problem with the rig...your wife might not like it though. Going to Ouray is easier, IMHO than coming into Durango. Very pretty drive, but it will take all YOUR attention with the switchbacks, narrow sections, steep drop offs and no guard rails..but hey! you're supposed to stay ON the road...:B.....enjoy the trip...Dennis

RE: 93 safari continental friend want to buy

Wow! Too old???? You guys sound like my wife....:B:B:B.....IMHO, that was a good coach and the 300 B engine will outlast most of us on this forum. My Dynasty had 109,000 miles on her and was purring like a kitten. Is this the one located in Albuquerque NM..:h:h...interesting floor plan as I've never seen a coach with a front and side entry..if it's the one from Nashville, the guy says it's sold......Dennis

RE: Tow Dolly and Chevrolet Tahoe?

Why not simply have it shipped on a carrier??? I used to use DAS to ship my hot rods and found them to be reasonably priced and efficient. Ship terminal to terminal for the cheapest rate. If you are not on a time table you shipping costs go down as they can simply add yours to another truck already enroute to Texas. Worth a call. Now if you're already going to Texas then that's a different story. You could rent a trailer round trip and bring back a car with you when you return and maybe make some money on the deal....Dennis

RE: Best tire pressure monitoring system

TST 507 system...used the 510 for three yrs then upgraded to the 507. Difference is the monitor on the 507 is more friendly and the sensor batteries are user replaceable....Dennis

RE: RV Park Recommendations Invited for Mt Rushmore etc.

If you have kids with you, then Rafter J wins hands down. Lots for them and lots for you to do. Another is Custer State Park, but IMHO it's too far removed from all the action around Rapid City and surrounding area....we stayed at Rafter J for two weeks and found the sites were large, the pools were refreshing and the hospitality wonderful.....Dennis

RE: Wrecked my 96 Dynasty, need advice!

Tom, sorry to hear you were involved in a collision. My concern is in your statement, "she hit the wall and I hit her." I hope that statement is your paraphrasing and not in the police report. From your statement an insurance adjuster could draw the conclusion that your speed was too fast for conditions also, hence placing partial blame on you. I am sure you meant to say that she hit the wall and then hit YOU...read the report carefully and make sure any irregularities are corrected. The reporting officer can do a follow up report to do just that...good luck...Dennis

RE: Buying a new diesel pusher for first time (pointers?)

Some like new, some prefer to save some and buy used. I have bought almost all my cars new, but when shopping for a motor home, I found more value in a good used coach. But, as was stated, you decide what's best for you. If you've already made that decision, congratulations on your new coach !!! That said, you asked a couple questions that have yet to be answered.
First, the maintenance. In order to maintain your factory warranty there are service intervals that must be adhered to. Things like oil and filter changes, (oil/fuel) valve adjustments etc. Read your manual, twice!.
When you take delivery, video tape the PDI, so you can go back and refresh your memory when you question how something works.
I would go over the entire coach and zip tie all the wiring every 12-18 inches. This will keep most of the wiring from bouncing around as you travel. Bouncing wires become frayed and/or broken wires over time. This also allows you to get up close and personal with the inner workings of your coach.
Check all plumbing fittings for tightness. Remember your coach was on an assembly line. That way you can also see how everything was put together and makes it easier to trouble shoot when something goes haywire.
Start a 3 ring binder for your coach. In it, put everything you do to the coach, from oil changes, fuel filter changes etc.
Load your coach for your first trip, half tank of water, full fuel etc and get it weighed. Four corners if possible. Using this info, make sure your tires are inflated to the proper pressure. Many times the dealer will under inflate the tires for a softer feel. Some will over inflate. Either one is not good. Get yourself a good TPMS. I have used the TST unit flawlessly for the past 6 yrs.
Finally, depending on what you're going to tow will depend on a brake controller. Brake controller's are only good if the unit you're towing has surge brakes. If it's a toad those controllers don't work. I am at 47,000# so my toad at 3,100# is not even noticeable. Do you need brakes on your towed veh.? Not really, due to the weight difference. Some States require a braking system if you tow over 1500#. I purchased the ReadyBrute from NightShiftAuto which has proportional braking integrated into the tow bar assembly. No other braking system is necessary. I did purchase the additional ReadyStop which was about 100 bucks more. This will stop the toad immediately if it ever separates from the coach. IMHO, this set up is one of the simplest and easiest to set up. It's also much less expensive.
I hope this helps....and again, congrats on the new rig......Dennis

RE: I am new to rving....Help

Hi klm,
Do you have a link to such a "lift"? I'm interested in one for a generator.
The two most popular are the cruiserlift and the hydralift. About $3800 incl installation.
To the OP..it's customary to come back, read the answers to your posting, then respond to the questions asked. This way you get more pertinent answers. Welcome to the forum....Dennis

RE: Satellite Fee's from Direct TV, city to city free

Doesn't this just give you the main chanels but not all the locals? As I was told if I signed up for it i would recieve the Mail Chanels (ABD,CBS ECT) but the chanels like chanel 11 here I still wouldn't get??????
You only get the NETWORK channels, ABC, CBS, NBC etc., and you can either get West Coast or East Coast, not both. This was an agreement reached with the FCC. The entire doc is quoted in one of my earlier posts. As a full time RVr, to have DNS with your DirecTV requires an RV account and the included waiver. In addition to the regular programming, the DNS is an additional $15/mo. ...Dennis

RE: CoachNet

Texan, that is an incorrect email address. I did ask to speak with a supervisor but was told no one was available. Very poor customer service. I have sent them the same information I posted here - we'll see how they respond.
I always love it when they tell you "no one is available". First question then is " What's your name"..? My next question is "if your building caught fire right now, besides 911, who would you call?" That's the person I want to speak to.....I also tell them I am retired and can be on the phone 24/7 if need be, I have a speaker phone, I'll wait......Dennis

RE: Engine brake just quit working

If you have an air hose attached, it's an exhaust brake not an engine brake...An engine brake creates braking force by releasing the compressed air inside the cylinders. An exhaust brake blocks the path of the exhaust, causing an increased pressure in the exhaust manifold. Determine which you have......neither will work with the cruise control ON.....make sure yours is OFF....Dennis

RE: Tires, surge protector, oil questions

I'm from the camp that says a surge protector is necessary, unless you're NEVER going to be plugged in during an electrical storm or into an outlet in a campground that has service older than 10 yrs, or where there are more than 20 or so outlets on the same run. Since you probably don't check those things when making reservations, $300-$500 is a great investment considering the cost of a new inverter, A/C unit, microwave, or any of the many electronics that make your coach work. I have a built in surge protector on the inverter and use a Hughes Autoformer as well..also, I use Rotella or DelVac..Transyd in the Allison......Dennis

RE: Kingdome roof top Satellite

Has it worked in the past while at your current location..:h....remember the dish inside the dome is only a half dish so it won't always locate the satellite the same as a regular dish. In some of the northern states it has difficulties locking in due to the location of the satellite on the horizon.....Dennis
