RE: walk through

Congratulations! I know you are very excited!!
After your walk through, if you can, spend a couple of days/nights camping within reasonable (to you) proximity of the dealer. This will you give you real life hands-on experience with your rig and any functionalities, fit or finishes that aren't right should be known to you in just those couple of days.

RE: Awning gutter

You may want to goodle "rain chains". The come in many designs from simple to ornate / artistic. I had them on my last house and loved them... very quiet and effective. No splashing! One might work on your RV.
Here are some examples.

RE: First long trip. Two old Gramma's. need lots of help

Gillette for 5 days.. part friends & 4th celebration b-day & anniversary, part convention .. RVing Women. Since I travel mostly by myself or g-kids, this is supose to be a National group of Women only campers. Also, considering LOW.. Loaners on Wheels.
Oh wow! You're going to the RVW Convention. Fantastic!
There are lots of women heading that way from California. 25 or so women and their rigs from the SoCalJourners regional chapter of RVW are caravanning to Gilette from Southern Ca. I'm betting as many from from the Northern CA Chapter, Freewheelers, will be doing the same.
Have a great trip!!

RE: Which Class B should we purchase?

kendall69
Whew, man, thank you for your counter post! I've been following diesel topics for a few months now because I was thinking about upgrading to one in the next couple of years. The original bash diesel comments had me second guessing myself. So thankful that you bumped me back on track with your personal experience. Now I can keep on researching and dreaming about purchasing one! Thank you again.

RE: Laptop or iPad?

I have a laptop, iPhone, and iPad2 with ATT (month to month). For the uses you've listed, the iPad should suffice. The only feature it will not support is Flash vids.
I've had my iPad for c. 3 months and rarely use it. The iPad is a large smart phone without the phone. I still rely on my phone to surf the 'net. Also, I prefer a laptop (or netbook) because they have disk drives which means I can load any applications I use, Photosphop, Microsoft Office, etc. I can also use the laptop to watch DVDs.

RE: First long trip. Two old Gramma's. need lots of help

Great!
Sounds like you have it covered.
- Have a placard with emergency contact numbers in glove compartment or side door pocket. Also in your smart phone Contacts list under ICE (in case of emergency).
- Keep in consistent contact with family members so they know your general whereabouts and itinrary.
- As always, bring copies of any prescriptions, including eyeglass prescriptions.
- Copies of ID, including credit cards, memberships, etc., just in case of loss.
- Think about bringing passports in case you decide to be impulsive and head up to Canada.
Have a great trip. It certainly sounds like you will!!

RE: Personal Question $$$

I bought my first new car 2006 in 2005 and paid it off in 2008.
I bought my pre-owned 2003 PW (w/ 30,000 miles on it)in 2008 for $32,000. Put $20k down, financed the balance, and paid it off in 2010. Growing up poor, debt makes me "sweaty-palms" anxious, especially if the purchase isn't a necessity.
So, while I may infrequently finance bigger ticket items for convenience, a convenience for which I am willing to pay an interest rate, I'll do it only if the pay off is within a relatively short range. Paying off debt is usually my priority, no matter what that means to my lifestyle. My only debt is my mortgage and I always pay more than the monthy amount. Other than vehicles and housing, I always pay cash or I wait until I can pay cash for the item.
What's the PW worth now? My best guess is around $25k-30k, based on its great condition and what I see other like model-year PWs being sold for. Then again, it's always what the market is willing to bear.

RE: Please....Tell me where to go!

There are many women fulltimers roaming the US. You may want to check out RVingWomen.org, the national organization for women RVers, with regional chapters throught the US. I know many women fulltimers keep connected via email and their website, often arranging to rendezvous with like minded on occasion. I'm thinking these connections might inspire you and or at least give you some virtual and 3D companionship and support.

Good going, Marsha!
Heck, you could drive into any campground and get the same info for free from any B owner.

RE: Changeover....

The only times I've used my "just in case" stuff was to help out other RVers, or the one time case when my 12v compressor helped out a stranded motorcyclist with a flat tire. I certainly never minded helping them but it dawns on me that I'm carrying all this extra weight and using up storage space when others travel light and don't seem to mind not carrying "extras", or, maybe they just don't think about it, or maybe they have faith in the knowledge that there will always be some "just in case" person around to assist? Either way, I'll be betting on the fact that there will always be more conscientious folks around and it's safe for me to declutter.

RE: Newbie - Shortlist of Supplies needed

Backpack for each child to bring things she wants for entertainment, book, ball, game, etc. Leave it up to them so they don't end up blaming you if they're bored. ;)
I drive a B, so this may not apply, but
- I always carry a small hand broom with which to brush out debris tracked in at the entry area.
- Long nozzle butane lighter.
- Marshmallow / hot dog long handle metal skewers. (S'mores are a MUST!)
You'll figure it all out after a while... meanwhile, "roughing it" for a couple of trips won't ruin your adventures and will actually probably add to them.
Have fun!!

RE: Teenager At Home and RVing

The problem is not with your daughter, it's with the mutants who inhabit this planet. I'd ask if she could stay at a girlfriend's supervised home, if not that then with her Mother.
