RE: EternaBonded the roof!

I think you'll be pleased. It solved my issues so far.
I spent an inordinate amount of time removing the old caulking and making sure it was super clean, but I was really pissed off so it helped vent the stress.

RE: Matching Tire/Wheel Size to 19.5 inch Visions?

Nice! Thanks
Are you running 7.5" wide or 8" wide Visions 19.5s?
Sorry, had to call down there and ask, I have my records at home. They are 7.5".
Also if you are having trouble finding them, do you have a Les Schwab? That's where I got mine and had them on in a week.
We don't have those to my knowledge but Discount Tire is looking into it. So at least someone wants to do do business!
Thanks for the help. It's a big purchase and I like being confident with what I'm buying.

RE: Matching Tire/Wheel Size to 19.5 inch Visions?

The tire shops in Greeley think I'm speaking Japanese!
"Your truck can't weight that much"
"19.5 inch wheels, never heard of those"
"offset? why are you worried about that?"
"order them off tire rack and then bring them down"
WTF? LOL

RE: Matching Tire/Wheel Size to 19.5 inch Visions?

245-G 19.5's will have plenty of load rating and be about the same diameter as the 285/75-16's you have now.
285/70-19.5's are way too tall to run without quite a bit of suspension lift and I doubt anyone even makes a wheel wide enough to run them on regular 8-lug pickup hubs. Plus, you don't need anywhere near that much load weight rating anyways.
For what it's worth, I run custom made heavy duty steel 16x8 wheels with my 285/75-16E BFG's. The wheels are rated 4000 lbs. My axle weight is 6500-7000 without trailer and up to 7500 with trailer. The tires and wheels perform great and no problems in 5 years, loaded miles almost all the time. Truck is rarely empty.
Hmmmm. Another alternative! I browsed through your pics and couldn't find pictures of the stocktons. Are they polished aluminum ones? Do they offer that? If not, how much were the wheels you ended up going with?

Matching Tire/Wheel Size to 19.5 inch Visions?

I need to move up to 19.5 inch wheels since my rear axel is at 7,400 lbs. I'm about 500 lbs over on each wheel since those are rated to 3,200 lbs.
I'm running 285 75R16 BFG All Terrains E rated with 3,750 lbs each tire.
I like the looks of polished aluminum wheel and aggressive tread of my current setup.
What size wheel/tire combo will get me close what I have now but be in the 19.5 load ratings. I'll probably go with Vision as I like the look.
Is the XDS 245/70R19.5 going to do it? Or should I run up to the 285 70r19.5. Seems obvious based on the numbers but I want to make sure from those of you in the know. I'm very ignorant on tire size. LOL
Thanks for your advice!

RE: New Lance Fiberglass Front Cap

I never heard of a Lance leaking at that seam and I read lots of rv websites.
All campers leak everywhere!
You ever had that joint torn apart?
I have on two different Lance campers. Both were 1999 Lance campers, and neither one had any evidence of leaking at that seam. The sealant used between the roof layer and nose fiberglass is super sticky. There is another sealant used between the seam trim and the roof layer. Dicor is then used on both sides of the trim and over each screw.
When rebuilding, we used Eternabond between all layers and Dicor just like the factory.
You might have just sold me on a Lance. :) My assumptions were wrong about that joint then.

RE: New Lance Fiberglass Front Cap

I spy with my little eye..
The damn roof joint that is still going to leak from using Dicor lap sealent!
They should mold an entire roof in fiberglass and get rid of leaking joints!
Gee kind of what Bigfoot and Northern Lite already do. :B
Kind of the same but different. LOL!

RE: Dicor vs Etnabond

How about if you had to remove it-how hard is it to remove
Why would you need to remove it?
Say a skylight or vent breaks or you just want to update.
Right. I think they recommend just cutting it and leaving it be, but I'd probably try getting it off first. I'd approach it the same way I do Dicor and Pro-Flex. Heat gun, nylon body tools/scrapers, and naptha.

RE: Dicor vs Etnabond

I had a leak I couldn't stop until I used Eternabond tape. I no longer use Dicor. I don't see an application where Dicor could be better.

RE: Sealing Water Fill at Tank Fitting

Used the butyl tape to fix both ends. The water inlet end was the worst and that was the part I had to replace last year.
Ended up needing a heat gun to get the hose over the barbs as well.

Silicone would be my choice. Oh yeah, I already did that on mine.

RE: Sealing Water Fill at Tank Fitting

What's a little baffling is that water isn't under any pressure. After the first use of the faucet, I'm not even clear how water is there to weep.
It's weeping when filling. It's weeping when the tank is full or near full especially when I'm sloshing down the road and using boat ramps. I want Zero water where it shouldn't.
It's a Travel Lite so I have enough water coming in through the roof! LOL

RE: Sealing Water Fill at Tank Fitting

I've removed that hose on more than one camper and found the same butyl putty tape that's used under the exterior trim and lights, between the sinks and counter tops, under sink faucets, etc. It's apparently the "seal-all" of the RV manufacturing world.
If the hose and tank fitting aren't cracked, damaged, deteriorated, etc. I would give some of that stuff a try.
:):)
I have a **** ton of this at home so I'll give that a shot. If that doesn't work, I have plastic epoxy if there is a crack in the tank fitting. Otherwise I may just go to the clear tubing from Ace Hardware and ditch this green spiral crap.

RE: Sealing Water Fill at Tank Fitting

how about a double clamp? is there enough hose to cut a couple inchs off?? check the plastic fiting might be cracked?? and I think if all else fails a little silicone might help.
I would try as described above first but would not use silicone , perhaps pipe thread compound . If it's the tank fitting a picture and what it is made of would help determine the best fix .
It looks like this but certainly not all that crud and junk. LOL
water fill at tank connection
I think you need to remove the hose and clamp and carefully inspect the tank fitting for a crack . If it is the fitting the only way I have found to properly repair it is to plastic weld it . Adhesives and glues don't work well on polyethylene . The other alternative would be to cut out the fitting and find the proper size plumbing tank bung fitting . If it's the hose , replace it with clear plastic hose for a better fit on the hose barb .
I did remove the hose and inspected both for cracks with a flashlight and bending and pushing on them to see if anything showed up. None were apperant. I can see the water weeping from between the hose and the tank fitting.

Sealing Water Fill at Tank Fitting

Although not exclusive to truck campers, I get quick and educated responses here. :)
Got a weep coming from the connection of the water fill (gravity not city) where it enters the fresh water tank. Might have been caused by straight bleach or just time, but regardless I need to get this resolved first try due to a pressing schedule.
It is the green hose with the white spiral and it is connected to the fresh water tank using a hose clamp. I removed it and found no holes in the hose nor any visible damage. Using the hose clamp as the oem did is not resolving the weeping.
Should I use silicone, pipe dope, or plumbers tape to seal this connection? Any other suggestions?
