RE: Repair or replace awning

I've used Eternabond successfully on the fabric edge that attaches to the wall when it started to delaminate, probably due to that portion of the awning always being exposed.

On mine the pins barely protrude through the backside, maybe an eigth of an inch or less.

RE: Dometic Fridge not cooling (the problem found)

The Residential Fridge I got was a 24" wide Whirlpool from Lowes.
Just a little shorter in height than the Dometic it replaced.
Though as it turned out it was just a little wider in the middle for the RV woodwork so the Palm sander got a little workout before I could slide it in. Reused some of the Dometic Trim and a scrap of wood across the botton as Residential Fridge has legs and some clearance underneath it.
A homemade "latch" ensures the doors don't open underway. Learned the hard way after first trip (stuff in the door and on shelfs must cause opening and closing, and now use Fridge Bars)and while doors were closed when stopped a few contents were on the floor.
As the Freezer chills down to 0 or -10 degrees (per the Thermoter I have) and is a giant icebox, so far the Ice Cubes haven't melted at all in our longest 6 hour trip before plugging in.
Couldn't be happier! Keeps Ice Cream rock solid and of course is so much safer - it won't burn my RV down!

RE: Dometic Fridge not cooling (the problem found)

RV Fridges have two exterior vents, 2 on the side or one on the side and one on the roof.
If you don't dry-camp, an Apartment size Fridge (or whatever size fits) Residential Refrigerator REPLACEMENT of the troublesome Dometic could be a worthwhile alternative. That's what I did after 3 year old Dometic lost its ammonia. Now, it cools down COLD in less than an hour, is bigger inside, mujch lighter weight, and is Frost Free. Cost me less than $400 and was easy to install in 2007.

RE: air conditioner cycling

Before my Dou-Therm Remote Comfort Control Thermostat died earlier this year, toward what became the end of its life, it frequently would short cycle similar to what you described. Run for less than a minute, then restrart and do the same about 3 minutes later after the compressor pressure delay ended. Annoying, but AC guy said it shouldn't do any harm...
Haven't used the new Dometic Electronic replacement Thermostat enough to encounter any problems as it hasn't been HOT ALL day yet.

RE: Anybody Add An Electric or Hydralic Auto Leveler on 5th

Is it safe to assume the Rieco Titan Front Jacks will lift the front of the trailer just as much as the stock (Lippert?) electric jacks?
My current jacks have one motor and a square tube to drive both jacks the same.
Thanks!

RE: Hitting the 5th wheel hard hooking up.

Yikes,
I guess just raising and lowering the trailer onto my gooseneck ball has its advantages. And its slow and gentle since the trailer jacks move so sloooow.

RE: Double door fridge

If really frustrated, consider replacing with a Residential Fridge?
Thats what I did. Frost Free, Cools down in less than an hour and stays that way!

RE: King pin V.S Goose neck ride

I use the Star Performance Kingpin (Gooseneck)adapter which includes a built-in Glider motion that smoothes out all but the very roughest "bumps" (just slow down when encountered) as it has about a 3-4" range of motion. Cost is reasonable (less than a good Fiver Hitch).
I've towed successfully with it since 2007. Does require lubrication via the grease zerks on it every 2K miles.
Keeps the pickup bed free. Gentle (albeit slower) raising and lowering to hookup. No risk of dropping trailer on pickup.
Google it if interested.

RE: Goose Neck Adapters

So maybe all the Gooseneck users are just lucky and dumb?
There's usually only a few in any campground I've stayed in.
As is usually the case a weak or poorly assembled frame is the culprit, regardless of the hitch...

RE: Goose Neck Adapters

My point was it does not FUNCTION as a lever anymore than any other hitch since it can't actually rotate within the realm of normally encountered dynamic forces. The attachment on most adpaters covers most of the entire bottom of the pinbox around the kingpin. Which is why they successfully work and even Lippert now makes a Gooseneck Pinbox. What difference does it make to the Pinbox kingpin between a regular hitch and adapter? And my Star Performance adapter offers a lot more motion absorbtion and attenuation than any non-airbag hitch. I did my due-diligence research on this issue back in 07 when I decided to go with the Gooseneck adapter and there has been no EVIDENCE to overturn my decision.
Really, this issue is no more significant than short vs. longbed trucks...

RE: Goose Neck Adapters

Buu its not a lever anymore than a regular Fiver hitch is as its SOLIDLY attached and cannot rotate the pinbox/frame within the normal realm of encountered stresses so it functions just the same as a hitch connection to the body/frame of the truck.
Otherwise, how could SO MANY Gooseneck Adapters be sold by so many manufacturers in this lawsuit drive nation? Some even have lengthy extensions for short bed trucks.
My Star Performance Gooseneck Adapter includes a glider connection to the ball that accomodates/absorbs the normal towing related back and forth and up and down motion presumably more than any standard Fiver hitch, thereby reducing stress.
Towing this way since 2007.

RE: goose neck vs 5th wheel hitch

Yikes, so many manufacturers make Gooseneck Adapter how could they be so worse?
I've towed my 12K trailer with the Star Performance Adapter with a built-in Glider motion to relieve back and forth, up and down movements, for almost 5 years now. And I've seen many other RVs with Gooseneck Adapters. The only frame failure I've personally seen was with a standard Fiver Hitch. If your frame is weak/bad, any hitch can bust it apparently...

According to his story and explanation (if read correctly), the Gooseneck adapter is NOT to blame.

RE: gooseneck versus 5th wheel hitch

I wish all good luck!
My 05 is long out of "warranty" for what they're worth, as is almost every RV after usally just a year.
I sure wish the Fridge, Tires (2 tread delaminations), CO and Smoke Detectors, Decals, Vent lids, Convection Oven, and faucets that leak just lasted more than 3-5 years as I've experienced.
Fortunately the bad Aluminum Wheels (2 developed cracks) were replaced "free" under warranty...

RE: gooseneck versus 5th wheel hitch

If only it was just simple physics...
In reality its all about Dynamic Forces and resulting stress. Not "Flag Poles" and breaker bars with movable points.
When the Gooseneck adapter is securely fastened to the Kingpin it becomes fixed/static point. Only extraordinary forces could shear or bend it, as if when the trailer frame was stuck or fixed somehow. My trailer was stuck in Louisiana swamp mud a few years ago and a chain on the rear trailer axle to a truck pulling and the adapter in my truck pushing did not cause failure (or bend the axle) so even that severe, albeit low velocity test was passed...
At the end of my adapter there is a glider that rests on the ball connector. The most significant "back and forth" forces/stress between the Fiver and Pickup get alleviated there, at least within the range of motion of the glider.
Most adapters don't even have that, yet are successfully used.
So effectively there is long term wide-scale real world test of towing Fivers with Gooseneck adapters (from many manufacturers on many RVs)that has not shown failure rates that exceed the apparently acceptable (very low/few) norm for "Frame Failures". Even Trailer Life has reviewed adapter (at least those from their advertizers!)
So it seems the Gooseneck Adapter RV users have conducted their own refuting "Myth Busters" investigation.

RE: trailer tire blowout damage. need repair info

I'm not sure my damage was as severe as yours...
I got a replacement fender from ICONdirect.com. Get the measurements from the intact fender. Shipping was pricy as they're in Canada...
My Alumimun skirt wasn't too ragged for too far, so I just pounded it back out out with a hammer and a steel angle (Body Tools would have been neater/better). Still a little dimpled/uneven, but so what?
Finished with Krylon White Auto Spray Paint from Wal-Mart applied along entire lower trim.

RE: New Orleans advice

Slidell LA on the "NORTHSHORE" has two RV Parks on Old Spanish Trail, the second to last exit off I-10 West before the new I-10 Bridge over Lake Pontchartrain.
About 45 minutes from the French Quarter.
We've stayed several times at Pine Crest RV Park (Good Sam Park) just off I-10 on Old Spanish Trail. Average RV park. That's always worked for our jaunts to New Orleans. I don't mind NOT taking the trailer into "Downtown". Farther down the street is KOA (?) park, I think called New Orleans East with more amenities for the kids including a pool. A little more expensive as I recall.
Slidell and other towns west (Lacomb, Covington, Mandeville(Causeway to NO), (south of I-12) have a lot to offer in terms of fine dining, bayou/river tours, Big BOX stores, etc.
Fontainbleu State Park is nice and further to the west (Lacomb).
