RE: Sold my trailer and TT

Hagarnerno1 - We also thought we was ready to stop RVing so sold the rig, a very nice 5th wheel with two slides & a ton 4 door Dodge diesel dually. After one summer staying in motels found it was time to rethink this picture. We now have a Chevy 1500 & a Rockwood Mini Lite 1809S TT. At 77 years of age this setup works very well for us. Making plans to make a sing thru AR, KY, OH, IN, IL this summer visiting family & friends. Love the ease of setting up & can fit into our kids & grand-kids driveways! Let them pay for the electricity - but we still can sleep in our own bed.

RE: hwy 54

We traveled I-70 west to exit 225 & then dropped down on 156 to Great Bend where we caught 56 to Dodge City & went south on 283 to Minneola where we picked up Hwy 54 so can't help you from there back to Wichita but felt 54 was a good choice.

RE: RV Park Location

We have found RV Parks in the west suburbs very hard to find. There is a very nice Forest Preserve near Elgin. Also the Blackwell Forest Preserve near Wheaton is nice enough but they are only open weekends from 1 PM Fri to noon Sunday. We were disappointed in the Sycamore park in Yorkville. PM me for more info if you like.

RE: Water pump

There is a check valve in the city water fill - you might try pushing it in with a pencil eraser. If that doesn't work the city water fill will need to be replaced. Blowing the water lines out with to much air pressure will cause this to happen - I know that from experience!!

RE: Thinking about downsizing

We downsized from a 31 foot 5th wheel with two slides & a ton diesel dually to a Rockwood Mini Lite 1809S made by Forest River & a 1/2 ton Chevy p/up & love the setup. For us we decided we didn't want to sleep under canvas - also the bathroom is a must for us.
As others have said only you can decide what will work for you.

RE: Looking for a 5th wheel

New Horizon is the only brand that gets a 5 star rating from the RV Consumer Group
That being said, if it's going to be parked, I would look at a Park Model unit.
I also was wondering why they didn't consider a park model. They also need to consider the stair steps to get to the bedroom in a 5th wheel.

RE: TT for a 1500?

Haven't seen this asked for awhile... but... has anyone heard of a line of new TT's that can be safely towed by a 1500? I have an 04 Silverado 1500 V8/5.3L engine with "tow package". R/W drive only.
We've been kicking things around a bit and have decided that full timing is not in our future. From an economical and practical standpoint buying a new (er)2500 doesn't seem practical either.
I've heard a little about how some newer TT's have been introduced that can be pulled by SUV's. Just wondering what might be our options now...don't want a popup anymore.
Sorry if it's a "dumb question".
Thanks
CTS
Forest River makes several that you can pull with your pickup. Our 04 1500 is 4 wheel drive but other than that it is the same. It handles the Rockwood Mini Lite 1809S very good. If I was to do it over we would get a little larger trailer though. Had a SUV when we bought the 1809S!

RE: Another Quartzsite question

can't help you on which roads to take - but if you have a quad take it there are organized trail rides with miles & miles of roads & trails to see. Also there are lot's of RV parks with all kinds of amenities. If you want to dry camp a lot of different places to do that. If you play or like music there is a jam session going on someplace all of the time. Be prepared for large crowds at the many vendors - traffic on the streets is slow - quads can be driven on the city streets.

RE: RV Trim

Take a section out & go to any RV place & they can fix you up with the proper width. I made the mistake of buying one that was too wide - couldn't get it to slip in properly.

RE: Trucks Use Left Lane

Also, you will notice that when it is posted to move to the left lane it is because the right lane is now driving on what used to be the shoulder. Therefore it won't stand up to the weight of truck traffic. And yes it is best for RV'S to move over.

RE: Downsizing??

Due to our age & disabilities we have found that since we downsized from a 30.5 foot 5th wheel with two slides to & ton diesel p'up the "Little One" we have now is so much easier on both of us. Yes we miss spending winters in Quartzsite, AZ - but all things have to end & our long trips & stays ended in 2008.
