Don't forget to service the batteries before heading out....

Just a reminder to check your battery(s) before your Memorial Day outing. I did my semi-annual battery service yesterday, put approximately 3 pints distilled water into the 4 Deka 6V golf cart batteries, cleaned each connection, and coated the posts with protectant. I do this service on the batteries twice each year, before Memorial Day Weekend, and again during Sept before the fall/winter camping season. Have a fun & safe camping season this year.

RE: New Truck Break in period

Bought my Dmax just before a trip. Work commute was 52 miles round-trip, so I did some sight seeing each way and got the 500 miles done in 1 week.

RE: Cell Phone Signal Amplifier?

I have the Wilson MobilePro, and it worked for me last summer while camping in a remote area of the central Sierra Nevada. I found that the phone did need at least 1 bar phone signal strength without booster for the MobilePro to work best. With the MobilePro turned on, I would get 2-4 bars. For email, I tethered my iPhone to my laptop, went and parked at the dam where I could get the best signal. Good luck with whatever choice in signal booster you make.

RE: Help with narrowing brands down - Modern Interiors

Well...since Komfort has been referenced in this thread a few times, I will agree that the interiors are not as "Aunt Bee" as some other brands. This is our Komfort 5er http://i21.photobucket.com/albums/b263/epenney/TB-living-for-RVNet2.jpg

RE: Bad smell

You report you have a "bad smell coming from the front storage and the large side storage". Are the propane tanks anywhere near where the odor is coming from? The odorant used in propane is very strong & nasty smelling. You could possibly have a leaking propane tank valve or bad regulator. I had a similar problem with a TT that had the propane tanks inside a front storage compartment. The stink even got into the front portion of the TT interior. Replaced the propane regulator and odor went away. Good luck.

RE: careful what you put in diesel tanks, someone is watching

Our small city is surrounded by farms & ranches. Several years ago I was driving along a rural 2-lane road frequented by the farmers and ranchers, and got pulled over into a roadside red-diesel fuel check. There were state & federal agents manning the roadside check. They were very professional about it, explained why they were dipping the tanks, and I was on my way in a few minutes. No big deal.

RE: Rudeness at River Reflections in Oroville, CA

River Reflections Rate Page indicates up to 2 persons per site, $5/extra person and $10 for boat launch & parking. So per their rates if you and your wife were there to visit your DD, then you pay $5 to do that. While not crystal clear in the explanation of some of their rates, I read it as you gotta pay if you want to go inside the RV Park. If I want to check out an RV park, I always stop at the office with my cheerful Pepsident Smile to get an OK to drive thru the park. :B

RE: Played the Yosemite reservation game today...

Just checked recreation.gov for site availability for Crane Flat and Hodgdon Meadow CGs. While they are outside of the Valley, there are a lot of sites available at either CG during the 4 week period. We reserved a site during March 15th lottery at Hodgdon for 7 days in the previous 4 week period. We had wanted to get into Upper or Lower Pines, and had clicked at 7:00 AM sharp, but they disappeared within seconds. Good Luck.

RE: To all of my RV.NET friends

Skip, that happened to me a couple of years ago. I didn't know about the hacking of my email acounts until my primary client called me to alert me, and warned me to get it fixed NOW! It took a couple of hours on the phone with ATT to get passwords reset on several email accounts. Have not had any problems since.

RE: It is Rattlesnake season, beware

Snakes !!.... I hate snakes. Leaving tomorrow for 4 days camping up in rattlesnake country. The weather has been mild enough that they might be stirring.

RE: Narrowed it down!

Thanks all! ...... Interesting thing is I see no maintenance schedule for the rear diff in the manual. ...... You might want to check the diff fluid level right away. My 2500HD came out of the factory with very low diff fluid levels. BTW... Nice truck.

A Night Scope. It's fun to sit in camp at night and see what type of wildlife is wandering around.

RE: Suggestions on getting to Yosemite NP

108 does that include sonora pass with a 26% grade? and definate extended snow closure after this storm. I would just come down the valley on 99 and go to Yosemite. Visit Tahoe on the way back. That or go up to Tahoe on the 80 and back down on 50/99 to continue to Yosemite. A 26% grade! Was that a typo? If not, I vow never to go that route in any weather! Yup...108 is steep for sure. The photo below was taken going down the west side. The east side is steeper. http://i21.photobucket.com/albums/b263/epenney/SonoraPassRoad.jpg

1st time Yosemite reservation lottery experience.....Got one

Holy Cow :E!!!! The CG sites in the 3 Valley CGs sure went fast. Within seconds, virtually every site was reserved. Three of us tried at 7:00 AM Pacific for 2 sites each for a specific 7 day period, but had no luck. So I perused other Yosemite CGs for available sites during the 4-week reservation window, and at about 7:05 AM was lucky to get Hodgdon Meadow site #64 for a 7-day stay. :B LOL....I had my home office set up as a Yosemite NP Reservation Mission Control; with CG maps & multiple monitors.

RE: Securing your generator?

Try leashing a Chihuahua to the genset. Best automatic anti-theft audible alarm system there is.:B Actually, I leave my genset in the front of the TV bed, cable locked to the bed.

RE: Will you RV with $8 a gallon gas?

At $8 a gal. here is the RV of the future Could be better than that. http://pictures.autotrader.co.uk/imgser-uk/servlet/media?id=1871989911 http://www.dollarsave.co.nz/site/dollarsave/images/originals/550x9999/Premium_650_UFf_Totale.jpg You guys both got it wrong. At $8 a gallon, this will be all the RV most can afford to camp in: http://i21.photobucket.com/albums/b263/epenney/UsedCampTrailer.jpg RobertRyan, That is a stunning TT in the photos you posted. But isn't the entry door on the wrong side for the part of the world you tow in?

RE: California Vehicle Dash Rules?

For those of you that feel it is a gamble or an inconvenience to visit here, I am sorry you will miss out on what the state has to offer. I will continue to visit your states and fall in love with the many things we have seen. It's funny but I don't read those comments about other states, mostly I head the dispariging remarks from folks that have never been here and without any real reason say they will never come here. The folks that do visit here don't seem to find fault except about the lack of places to camp in our metropolitan areas and most of us from CA feel the same way. So come on over, drive safely and like you would at home(but obey our speed limits, as stupid as they are) and we'll show you a good time. X2.............very well said sbishop.

RE: Dumping my tanks at home?

I have a sewer clean-out back of sidewalk at the end of my 60' driveway. Years ago, I called the City and asked if dumping my RV holding tanks at home was legal, and they said it was ok to do so. So, I always dump at home after a trip. No problems with the neighbors.
