RE: Put furnace blower on a separate switch?

Yes but that motor runs 2 squirrel cage fans, One fan is the combustion fan, which provides combustion air to the burner, which then pushes the hot burned gases through the inside of the heat exchanger.
The second fan is the fan that moves from the coach over the outside of the heat exchanger and removes from it to the air, then pushes that air into the coach.
Now if you run that fan without the burner burning then cold outside air is being moved through the inside of the heat exchanger and is cooling the air inside the coach. Which could cause condensation in the heat exchanger and cause it to rust out.
Dusty
I hadn't thought of that. Guess running the furnace blower is now out of the running!

RE: Put furnace blower on a separate switch?

Why not an oil filled heater? No fan power needed. No electricity to produce unused light, as with a lightbulb. Just set the thermostat at the minimum needed to get the job done, i.e. something warmer than 32 degrees F. Just a thought.
There is no room in the underbelly, for an oil filled heater.

RE: Put furnace blower on a separate switch?

I would think about just adding a duct and small blower separate from the furnace.
I could do that and use a computer cooling fan for it. That would draw MUCH less power!

RE: Put furnace blower on a separate switch?

Thanks Steve.
I'm not too concerned about how hot the air would be, just that there would be continuous warm air to the underbelly. Some have used 100w light bulbs, to keep their tanks from freezing and it worked.

Put furnace blower on a separate switch?

The holding tanks in our fifth wheel are heated, via furnace ducting to the underbelly. Whenever possible, we use the campground electric to heat the camper. This leaves no heat for the underbelly.
I'd like to (If safely possible) tap into the furnace blower's hot wire and be able to run it from a separate switch. That way, I would still have warm air circulating to the underbelly area. My question is: Would anything prohibit me from doing that?
Here's a wiring diagram for our furnace. I would like to tap into the red wire, going to the blower motor.

RE: Aluminum/metal carports

TNT carports delivered and installed three of them for us. They even came back and enclosed one for us. We live off I-81, just north of the VA/WV state line and they are in North Carolina. Their number is 888-831-7454..

RE: 50 AMP transfer switch with a 30 Amp generator?

If it helps, here are the instructions for the Iota brand 50 amp automatic switch I installed. It came with the necessary jumpers already installed. I rigged a 30 amp cord in the front of my fiver to use with a generator in the bed of my truck. I also plug into shore power up front if it's more convenient and I don't need 50 amps.
Thanks for the info!
Do you have any pictures of your setup?

RE: 50 AMP transfer switch with a 30 Amp generator?

If it were me (a retired electrical service tech), what I would do is to connect your supply from the generator to the input side of the power transfer device, and jumper the two input connections for L1 & L2. You do not want the jumper between them on the output side as that would tie them together all of the time. Be sure that the jumper that you use is large enough to carry full load.
If you use crimped on lugs for the wires and the jumper you should be able to get two under one of the L1/L2 terminals. If you can't get two on there, use a splicer to connect two legs from the hot side of your current cable from the generator and then put one on each terminal.
The key is to keep the connection between L1 & L2 on the generator side of the transfer device.
That's exactly what I plan to do. My jumper for the generator L1/L2 input of the transfer switch, will be 10g wire. Just like the output line of the generator.

Just curious, what model was your old TT?
It was a 2006 Sunline T-2499

RE: 50 AMP transfer switch with a 30 Amp generator?

Thanks for all the replies!
Our generator is a permanent mount unit and in the front compartment of the 5'er. It has a 10/2 cord coming out of it, that wires into the transfer switch. There is no receptacle to plug an adapter into. Here's a picture of the generator, mounted in our old TT...

50 AMP transfer switch with a 30 Amp generator?

We have a 3,600 watt (30 AMP) Onan generator, that was quite expensive and only has 24 hours on it. Most of those hours are from exercising the unit.. We just upgraded to 50 AMP service and would like to keep the generator.
My question is: Can I bridge the two hots on the generator terminals of a 50 AMP transfer switch and run the fifth wheel with a limited supply of amperage? I have a Marinco 30 to 50 adapter for home, since our home power is still 30 AMP and I would like to know if the 50 AMP transfer switch coil runs on 120v AC, or 240v AC?

RE: Hot water heater

Not much of an electrician, no meter.....however I am probably able to replace the element. Would the battery cut off switch by the door cut off electricity to the heater ?
It would kill the 12VDC power, but NOT the 120VAC that powers the element. You either need to disconnect from shore power, or turn the breaker off.
Most WH indicator lights are 12V..

RE: How big can I go?

Biscuit hit the nail on the head! Always figure your weights, based on the GVWR of the towed vehicle. Too many people base their figures on the unloaded weights. It's amazing to see the grossly overweight rigs, going down the highways!

RE: Can you tell from the outside?

Now we are always saying oh they have a rear living, or side bath ect.
Do most take it to this extreme?
Every time we pass a camper, Bonnie (kanyonkitty) lets me know the floorplan... She even lets me know if the hitch is setup, or if the camper/TV is nose-up or nose-down...

RE: Shaking dually = normal?

Question... When the truck starts it's "Shaking" is it when the steering wheel is turned almost as far as it will go? My 99 F350 dually does that and it is due to the universal joints partially binding. It is much much worse, when the 4wd is engaged. I just learned not to turn the wheel too far and it's fine. It doesn't make it too easy, when backing with the 5er. BTW: the rear-end has nothing to do with it. It's all in how far you turn the steering wheel. After winter, I plan to replace my universal joints and whatever else is needed, to correct this.. If it's possible.

RE: Fresh Water Tank

Our fifth wheel had the same problem in July. Turned out to be the check valve for the pump. It would fill the fresh tank to overflowing, in as little as two days. I was ready to replace the pump, or add the valve that was previously mentioned. After switching to the pump and using it to drain the FW tank(With normal use) I switched back to the city water. Whatever was stuck in the pump's check valve was gone. The problem never came back.
On a side note.. I know it was not too much pressure. I have a pressure regulator and a gauge after it. Our pressure is never over 45PSI.
