RE: If you dont travel with the FW tank full???

Speaking in general terms, not specifically to anyone. If your TV is up to the task, my recomendation is to travel with your FW tank full. The one time you reach your destination and find the water is not useable for whatever the reason. You'll wish you had filled up at home. I've only encountered this one time but had I not brought the TT FW tank full. It would have ruined an excellent trip. From then forward, I always keep the FW tank full. Now, the waste water tanks. That's another matter. My TT MFG recomends NOT traveling with them full for the reason that it can creat an unstable towing experience. Perhaps because of the increased weight aft of the axles making the tongue lighter not to mention them probably not being completely full more often than not and not being baffeled. Anyway, just one mans opinion.

RE: Hello and need some advice

Mastiff mama, Your truck is up to the task. Question is.., are you? I understand a little anxiety but sounds to me like you are working yourself all up for nothing. Yes caution should be used but it's really that not that worrysome. You'll know the TT is back there and with a little discretion in turning and ascendin & descending hills I think you will be fine. For turning, make your turns wider for the TT to clear the curb on right turns and for left just give yourself a little more room in turns. Climbing & descending hills, take your time and use your gears. Don't be in a hurry. The only other thing is learning to back it up and that comes with practice. Everybody that comes on this forum that tows anything had to learn and you will do fine too. Does that TT have a horse section?

RE: Do You Use Premium Gas When Towing ?

The question seems to be Super vs. Regular gasoline when towing? I'm no expert in this area, perhaps ExRocket Scientist or DiaperDude (sounds like a new dad) can jump in here but the botique gasoline we all buy could be the determining factor possibly. Take a look at this link speaking about botique gasoline. This may go political but it is certainly not the intent. More rather to inform what many of us are ignorant about. I certainly was until I read this. It explanes a lot! My wife and I were having a conversation about gas prices here in San Diego being close to the highest in the nation, that's when I found the above link/article. I thought the reason for the high prices was because of the fact that in CA, gas can only be produced and sold in state and none can be "imported" from say AZ, NV, or UT or anywhere else. The afore mentioned article explanes the why. Seems to me.., if you eliminate the boozed up gas and ran purely gasoline only, you'd go a lot farther on a tank of gas as the energy in that gallon would go up significantly. But back to the question the OP is seeking as it pertains to this botique gas. I wonder if it would be a necessary factor with todays modern engines to even need the different grades of gasoline if gas wasn't "botique" and pumped up with alcahol and all of the other additives? I wonder..?

RE: HOW do you do it?

We go to the lower Colorado River near Blythe all summer long to camp & jet ski. For us, anything under 100 degrees is TOO COOL for River camping! See, when at the river, I WANT to be wet; swimming, jet skiing, boating...if it's not triple digits, it's not as fun/comfortable to be in the water all day. AFAIC, 105-110 is perfect. Hotter than that really doesn't make much of a difference; 115 doesn't feel any different than 110. We use misters on the RV awning, run the A/C 24/7, set up an EZ-up at the edge of (or even slightly in) the water. And we drink plenty of beverages and play in the water! Several years ago, we were there when it actually hit 127 degrees! THAT was hot, but we just moved the EZ-up fully into the water and stayed wet the whole time! That actually does sound like fun.., if you can stay in the water the whole time. The TT wouldn't fair well though unless I got a "tent" for it to perhaps get it out of the sun some how. I just may look into something like that for those "uh-oh" camping trips.

RE: Where to haul the dog??

I, too, have a standard cab pickup. When we were traveling with the fifth wheel, the dogs and the cats were in the trailer, in travel cages, in the bedroom over the hitch, where the ride is best (DW rode back there once, and verified that the ride on the bed is quite comfortable). Yes, they are ANIMALS, not children! Yes, they are also family pets, not "just dogs and cats". PETS, not children! No, they are NOT our "fur-kids". IMO that is a sickening description of a pet! I fathered 6 children, and not one of them has FUR! How arrogant it is to say "It is obvious". Arrogant and asinine! Anyway, I traveled with cats in the cab of a standard cab pickup many years ago. When cats are nervous, they shed. Oh, boy, do they shed! It took WEEKS to get all the hair out of all the nooks and crannies of that cab. NEVER AGAIN! By the way, I would never allow my children or grandchildren to go out in the back yard and poop on the grass, either, like the PETS do. By the same token, the grandchildren are not allowed to ride in the trailer, or in the camper (when I had one), nor are they allowed to ride in the motorhome without being securely belted. PETS don't get that kind of consideration, only children do. PETS are ANIMALS, not CHILDREN! WOW!!!!! This is the best response I have read yet to all the people that are up in arms about an ANIMAL. Yes I have dogs, yes they are family pets, yes we love our pets, but they are exactly that, they are PETS, they are not one of our children and I think the people that run around referring to their pets as their "furkids" need to step back and take a look at the way they think. There is a reason there are comics/tv shows/movies that portray the "crazy cat lady" type person. All that being said. If I were the OP I would check these out for shade. Would need to do some measuring to see if it works with the 5er Works Great I have one and it works great with my Great Danes, in their kennels, secured in the bed of crewcab truck, where they should be, not in the cab where they can be a danger to us or themselves, by in some way interfering with safe driving. The back seat of the crewcab belongs to my KIDS. The real ones, our children, the human ones. armyeng beat me to it but I was gonna also say what mowermech pretty much said, very well stated!

You got to wonder about all them poor horses riding in their trailers. It's really sad They can't ride in the cab too. I must be really bad.., I have over 300 horses confined under the hood!:B

RE: HOW do you do it?

Ya kno, I thought it was just me. I think I was the only that left. It appears that everybody else stuck it out including all of the tent campers. Boy, they're a hardy bunch, there was no small number of them. CG was pretty much full with only a few spaces remaining. Looks like most that posted to this thread are in agreement. I thought someone would come on here and speak of the wonders and virtues of the heat and how great it is. I guess I'm not the only one that thinks that the Bar-B-Q should be left to the food you bring, not you!

RE: HOW do you do it?

As far as predicting the weather, we've all seen it. Forcast is for one thing and you get something alltogether different. Last forcast day before was for 80 degrees. That I can do all day long for day's on end. This trip was actually moved twice. Originally scheduled IIRC Jan/Feb, that didn't work so inadvertantly moved it to Easter weekend. When I discovered that it was Easter I moved it again to this past weekend, blah.., just to hot! This is actually a seasonal campground. It closes in May and reopens in October. I hardly expected it to be this hot so early in Spring, surprise, surprise! I supose this is just one of those things we discover in all of our other discoveries in life, part of the adventure of camping. In another post, BobsYourUncle tells of his heater taking a dive recently when he needed it as well as his WH being ruptured (good story check it out). I supose if it weren't for these kind of things happening on occasion it could be kind'a boring sometimes.

RE: HOW do you do it?

Been there done that and no, 105 is not a lot of fun. Anything over 100 is actually down right dangerous if you are not prepared and equipped for it. This is why we head to higher, as in much higher elevations, when summer approaches. I'm a former San Diego guy, (51 years), and now reside in Tucson but during the warmer months we are off to the White Mountains, Mt Graham, Flagstaff etc., where 7, 8, or even 9,000' make for very pleasant camping. Sadly the best you can do in San Diego is about 6,000' and even there it can get warm. At least you had a 15K AC, lots of 30 something trailers limp along with just 13,500. :C Desert Cap, I hear ya! Last year August we went to Big Bear and the travel up to the CG outside temps were 105 to 112 as measured by the cars thermometer. Much more mild temps at 8000', looking forward to going there again.

RE: HOW do you do it?

You must have gone to Borrego Springs.......:B Actually not far from Borrego, about 20 miles east on S2. Agua Caliente, a County of San Diego park. Nice place, used to go there when I was a kid, thought I'd show my kids. Not a good example this time.

HOW do you do it?

Desert dwellers.., how do you enjoy camping in the heat? We just got back from a VERY SHORT weekend trip after testing the heat. Paid for two nights, stayed one. This trip wasn't suposed to be this hot! It was a rescheduled trip that got put back from the Easter weekend. Almost wish we would have gone then. All indications were mild weather but it was hotter than a pop-corns fart. When we finally decided to pack it up & go it had cooled down to 105* at about 5:00 pm. I didn't check the actual temp for the high of the day but I estimate it got upwards of 110* to 114* in the shade under the awning. Even the 15K BTU AC unit couldn't keep up with the heat load, just to much! Is this suposed to be fun? I wish I could say never again but I can't predict the weather so I'll say I hope to never do this again. Anyway, have another trip scheduled in two weeks to make it up to the little trolls, they kinda got short changed in this. I'm done with the desert though for the time being till it cools off, it's only gonna get hotter till summers end.

RE: Upgrade the Brake Controller?

I too bought a P2 vs. the P3 and saved a few $$. For the extra money spend you really aren't getting anything more but a different display (far as I know). Save your money & get the P2. If you feel like you just gotta spend the money then go ahead and still get the P2 and send me the difference. Hey.., only $40 difference but I'll take it. :B

RE: Do you have your "Dream" RV? How many did it take to find it

Bought our 1st TT in 93 and rapidly out grew it. I paid $1K for a 10 year old 19 X 7 Excell that slept 4 perhaps comfy, we were 5 at the time. Got to the point where we couldn't use it so it sat for a number of years. The one we have now is our dream TT. Will fit everybody & some guest's, just what the Dr. ordered. Waited to long for it but glad we finally did it. See pic in profile.

The TT you are looking at can be towed easly by the Sequoia, Armada, Expidition or Tahoe/Yukon if you needs require an SUV and it's within your budget.

RE: trailer A-Frame flexes

Nighthawk, You were the one that actually looked at the TT in question. I am not trying to convince you to make a questionable purchase. That TT could very well be "over stressed." I supose the only point that I and perhaps others are making is that the way you described it, it could very well "flex" a little. But that is only a little. If you are seeing more than what should be what one might call "normal" and that is subjective, you may want to reconsider it. You after all are ultimately the one that is going to have to live with it. If it's questionable at all.., bypass it. There are plenty of others out there.
