I'm really sorry about your breakdown! The Grand Canyon is an amazing place, and I do hope you're able to complete the trip eventually.

RE: Tow Lights: Diodes vs. Bulbs

Nothing is absolute, but the likelihood of causing any damage using suitable diodes is very slim. Diodes generally fail open, not shorted, so a bad diode shouldn't cause any more problems than a blow bulb would. I used diodes on both my 2002 and 2011 RAV4's, and they made the wiring job much easier since I was able to pick up the rear light wires at the front drivers side kick panel instead of routing wires all the way to the fixtures in the back. In about 25,000 towing miles so far, not a single failure.

RE: Coach-net

Our motorhome broke down a couple of weeks ago just as we got off I-40 in Santa Rosa, NM. I knew it was a fuel pump problem, and that I could fix it myself, so I called Coach-Net and asked for a tow to the RV park where we had planned to stay. After checking that we were in a safe location (We were), they called back and said it would be about an hour for the truck to get to us. The tow operator then called to verify our location, and said he thought he could get there in about 30 minutes if the job he was on went well. He arrived 25 minutes later, and about 30 minutes after that we were parked in our camp site. A call to the local NAPA store found the parts I needed, and we were on our way again the next day as planned. We have needed Coach-Net's services on multiple occasions over the years for both our RV and our cars, and we have never been disappointed.

RE: accumulator

A FWIW about accumulators. I just upgraded to a Surflo 5.7 gpm pump and the instructions said if your system has a accumulator remove or disable it.
Jim
If you installed a Shurflo Extreme Smart Sensor 5.7 GPM pump, then I wouldn't suggest removing the accumulator tank. Adding a valve to temporarily disable it will allow you to use it again in the future. The Extreme pumps have been arguably one of the highest failure rate pumps Shurflo has ever produced.

RE: now what

NADA lists the average retail price of an '04 40' Vectra in the high $90K's, so depending on condition, the $70K auction price is likely a fair deal.

RE: sewer fitting storage?

Buy a suitably sized plastic storage container with a cover for it, and stow it in the closest storage bin. Get the container a bit oversized, so you can store the foam "donut" that some campgrounds require as well.

RE: used motorhome tires

Farm equipment dealers will sometimes buy take-off tires in good condition to use on various used field equipment, such as hay wagons, etc.

RE: No water in kitchen sink

Unscrew the aerator from the tip of the kitchen faucet. See if water flows with it unscrewed. If so clean out the aerator and reinstall. If it's plugged with calcium you can try soaking it in white vinegar overnight to see if it helps.
x2 easiest and cheapest for first try at the problem.

X3... And also the most common cause of the problem.

RE: Banking while on the road

We use a combination of a regional bank that offers free online bill paying and no ATM fees nationwide, and a credit union that accepts check scanning for deposits and higher savings account rates. We use the regional bank's ATM's when it's convenient to do so, but I think the last time I actually walked into an office was a few years ago when I needed something notarized.
