RE: How does glass and breakable dishes like to travel in a 5er?

We use glass drinking glasses, and glass coffee mugs. Some of our cereal bowls are glass. I use worn out sock tops slipped over the drinking glasses and coffee mugs, when traveling. Put rubberized shelf paper, cut to size, between glass plates. We travel with glass pots and pans, the vision cooking pots and skillets. I put place mats between them and stack them in lower cabinets. Have not broken anything in many years from traveling.

RE: Bear Country

I think the OP has GOT IT unless repeating the same thing over and over isn't getting thru. You can tell your wife that the last time anyone was killed inside an RV by a bear must have been like never--she is in much more danger of being shot by someone cleaning their specially selected and heavily loaded personal bear protection handgun than by a real bear in Grizzly RV park. While I'm sure that there have been some bears that have wandered the streets of West in the past, more people are hurt there trying to crowd the counter getting an order filled in McDonald. I have no clue about Yosemite but West Yellowstone won't be a problem--at least as far as getting eaten by a bear is concerned. Oh yeah--never leave food or dirty plates outside at night. Someone was killed in a hard sided camper trailer or RV, in the mountains of Colorado. The young man got off several shots with a 30 30 at the bear, inside his trailer, but the bear killed him.

RE: Redwood quality?

Carriage was NOT replaced with REDWOOD! Just because a CEO that Carriage was not happy with, went to work for Thor/Redwood is not reason to think Carriage was replaced by Redwood. Carriage was closed by politics and their bank was sold to a bank that received stimulus money which then stopped giving loans to people and businesses. Very unfriendly RV bank too.. Carriage did not miss any payments and the new bank called the loan. Carriage tried to work with them and they didn't want to work with anyone. Finally Carriage closed their doors. Carriage was in business for 47 years so guess they did something right! :)

RE: 50amp Electric Requirements?

Just don't let it ruin your fridge or AC with too little electic coming in. We had a Montana and hooked up to 30 am for a short time. Ruined our AC and fridge. Everything worked fine after both were replaced. Only used 30 amp in an emergency and really watched what was turned on at the time. Low power can do damage. Hope you also have a surge protector too.

RE: red wood by thor

It is not Lippert that people have a bad feeling about with Thor... It is Thor period! I would not buy anything with the name Thor on it! I belive many would agree with me.

RE: CB Radio or Not

We have always had a CB. They are handy when there is a traffic blockage or weather issues. You can find information from truckers if should take an alternate route, or directions or best way through or around a city. Some people say they don't need them because they have their cell phones, who are they going to call? Can a cell phone tell them what is going on up ahead of them on the road?

RE: Mail Service

We are also full timers. Belonging to Escapees. Our residence is in Texas as our Escapee address is also in Texas. We are now Full time Texas residents. We vote in Texas, vehicle plates Texas and mailing address Texas. Only one vehicle has been inspected in Texas and that is our tow vehicle. Our SUV has never been inside Texas and wears Texas plates every year. You don't have to worry about inspections unless you plan to spend time in Texas. Texas will mail your window stickers/registrations. Will also renew drivers license by mail. Sold our sticks and bricks house 3 years ago. Life is good.

RE: Anyone Purchasing Carriage's?

I would if I was looking for a new 5th wheel.

RE: Convection oven info

I love my convection/microwave oven. I have a Sharp. I bake cakes, biscuits, roast and anything I would cook in an oven. The microwave is handy too. You can use metal pans in the convection but not the microwave mode.

RE: Carriage - update - 1-23-12

A few dealers are giving a warrantee with Carriages they sell. Carriages do not have many issues that would need repairing. They are good units. They also did make their own frames. We have a 2008 Carri lite and have had very minor issues with it. Nothing with the build has caused any problems. If something happens to this one. Would look for another Carriage.

RE: Anyone Purchasing Carriage's?

I'd buy a used Carriage in a heartbeat. After 6 years living in one, If I had an accident tomorrow and had to replace it, I would look for a Carriage. We have a 2008 Carri lite and it has been a good unit. We live full time in it for last 3 1/2 years. If something happened to this one we would look for another Carriage. Best 5th wheel we have owned and have owned 4 of them. Only had minor issues and nothing my husband couldn't fix.

RE: What exactly makes a RV park or campground a resort?

We go to a resort every winter in AZ and it is very nice. Sites are 40 X 60 and clean, locked gate at night. Out in rural AZ farmland so not much noise here. No pool but all the other amenities. Averages around $10 a night if staying for 6 months. Or $285 month. Found this place a couple years ago. Was staying in Apache Junction and got tired of being shoved in like sardines. This place is about 15 miles from Apache Junction. They stay full every winter. Apache Junction is also getting more expensive every winter. I disagree about resorts are just expensive RV parks. This place is not expensive and very nice. Not an old park either.

RE: DVD and CD storage?

We put ours in a DVD album and keep the information from the DVD cases and slip it in with the CD in the album. We use two big DVD albums, and they are almost full of DVDs. Bought these at Best Buy.

RE: Theiving Season

In AZ, in a resort we stayed winters for 3 years, the security staff was volunteer guest staying in the resort. In the months following January, people begin to leave for home and theft went up. Because there were fewer people watching for this. It was always local people. Mostly young teens. Several of them were caught climbing over the walls. We are staying in another area in AZ with a locked gate. But that may not stop this either. The wall seems higher...

RE: Problems with Good Sam ERS

When we had GS, we had to wait long time for service too. They could not find the town we were broke down. Needed a tow. By the way this was just our SUV that quit. This town was not a little wide place in the road but a big enough town it is on the map and established. But they could not find it. Finally our SUV started and limped back. Took it to a garage and had to have new computer installed. We have Coach net now.

RE: Stackable vs. combo washer dryer

I have the stack units and would not want a combo. Several friends who have had combos were not happy with them after awhile. I have had a stack Kenmore and loved it. Now have stack Whirlpool washer and dryer and they are bigger. More like apartment size. My dryer is 220 so dries quick like home dryers..Very happy with it. If you are worried about storage space, then you are carrying too much stuff.

RE: Was not aware that RV factory workers paid piecemeal v. hourly

Some brands do have quality control. I know a Indiana manufacturer that inspected each unit on completion and put a strip of red tape on everything that needed attention to fix. Everything was fixed before it left the lot. In all things.... you get what you pay for. More expensive units, they build less of them in a day. So which do you think gets the most attention to detail.

RE: Finest Fiver made?

The best trailer will not be the best for you if the floor plan will not work for the 2 of you. Floor plan is very important. Also what amenities you can get with it. Some will not put in a washer and dryer and only put it in the bedroom! Bad idea my opinion. Many now are putting them in the hall way side by side which is better. Some floor plans will only allow for the all in one washing machine like the Splende. Not for me! too slow too small loads, Can only do one load at a time. With a stack or side by side unit you can dry a load while another load is washing. Another goodie is some brands will not put in a dishwasher. New mar 5th wheels told me they would not. So we crossed them off our list. New Horizon will and maybe Mobile Suites. You may not think these things are important but think of carrying your laundry through the rain or cold to the laundry room. You never know what was washed in those machines before you put your clothing in. Also I use my dishwasher every day. It keeps the sink clear of dirty dishes and when the dishwasher is full I run a load. Washes great and would not want to do without it. It also heats and sterilizes the dishes. If you say you need storage instead.... then you have too much stuff with you. :) We are full timers for almost 4 years. "Life is good!"

RE: Fifth wheel hitch failure

After 10 years of pulling 4 different 5th wheels, we had the experience of the bedsaver saving our pickup bed and damage to our trailer. One time it was a new hitch and it locked a little different that the previous one. Another time the bar was not fastened and it would have fallen if not for the bedsaver. Let nothing distract when hitching or unhitching. No one is perfect! Don't say it can not happen to you!

RE: Do folks actually carry passengers in their fifth-wheels?

Would never put anything we care about in the 5th or a trailer while going down the road. Looking at one that has been in a minor accident should keep anyone from doing this or even thinking of doing this. It is legal in some states and illegal in some states. Foolish in all states.
