RE: Danica

There are a ton of very talented drivers out there just dying to get a shot at the bigs...guys that can drive circles around Danica...I am sure there are drivers out there who are not in "the bigs" but could drive circles around ANY of the current drivers. You honestly think all those sons of famous old drivers are really the best there is? Heck, I bet there are WOMEN drivers out there who could beat her. It's not just about talent. It is also luck, horse sense, business acumen, etc. It's just the way the world is.

RE: For civil war buffs

When I was young, we lived in Manassas. At least once a year we walked the battlefield as part of our lessons on the Civil War.

RE: One Question, Do U Wanna Get UR Palms in a Sweat?

As for low level flying, ain't the same thing....No way would you find me climbing that 1700 foot tower like that guy did.For me, it's the "control thing". Going up that tower, I am in control (unless there is a big wind, which there often is at that height above ground). Note that I climbed SHORT towers (less than 1000 ft, and NO safety harness) in my college days to collect data (I had instruments at the top). Looking back on it, I should have had some sort of tie-off, but I guess back then, grad students were expendable. Flying in the back of an aircraft that low bothers me because I am not in control. If I were the pilot, I would have no issues. Our pilot is the same way. He has no issues flying between the wave peaks, but if someone else is flying, he gets worried. When I talked to him about this, he jokingly told me that the next time we do that low level flying, he will let me control the plane. Well, I HOPE he was joking.... ;)

RE: One Question, Do U Wanna Get UR Palms in a Sweat?

I don't see the problem. Once you get above 100 ft. or so, the fall will kill you. So 100 ft., 1000 ft., it doesn't matter. At least at 100 feet the sudden stop at the end comes quickly. 1700 feet and you're going to get think about it for a while.Yea, you can do tricks and such on the way down. Since there is not much you can do to change the situation, why worry. Might as well have fun on the way down.:C Besides, most of these guys are tied off most of the time. For me, the only problem would be the climb up (not in that good shape). I fly in research aircraft where we were be flying between the cloud deck above and the ocean below (less than 200 m below). I can see fish jumping. To my left is the island where we took off and the runway is at 270 m. So we are flying over the ocean at a LOWER altitude than the cliffs to my side. If we hit a downdraft (or the cliff), we are in the drink with little chance for a rescue. At least in the tower climber's situation, he is in control of his own destiny. I have to trust my pilot, even when the airplane is shouting, "PULL UP! PULL UP!". I'd rather be on that tower knowing I am in charge of my destiny.

RE: Attempted scam

I've been contacted by folks in the past where I thought they were someone I knew. It usually took a few minutes before they or I said something that didn't make sense to the other and then we realized we each were NOT talking to the person we thought we were. It was all innocent, no scamming going on.

RE: How would you handle this?

Show his Facebook page to his bosses, or at least let them know he has a Facebook page where he posts questionable stuff.

RE: Question on .177 Co2 pellet gun

If you use the gun infrequently, the CO2 will eventually leak out. Then you will have to resort to throwing the BBs and pellets. For me it was just the cost of the cylinders and the annoyance of having a need for the rifle and not having the gas cylinder. No the issue its if it leaks its not there when your ready to shoot.I get it now. Thanks for the responses. My parents have a CO2 pistol and they love it (for shooting tree rats). They've never mentioned the loss of pressure.

RE: How not to pick a denist

Even dumber on her part. She will probably lose her license or at least have it suspended.I would hope she would lose a whole lot more than that! That is a criminal act.

RE: Question on .177 Co2 pellet gun

...I got it instead of a CO2 gun because of concerns of CO2 leakage. Only concern I have with CO2 rifles or pistols is leakage of the gas. I know this is a bit off topic, but why the concern about leakage of CO2? It's not like it is a harmful gas.

RE: How to make money in the stock market.......

Best way to make a million dollars in the stock market is to start with two million. It is also one of the fastest ways to make one million. My Dad likes to "play the market". He's actually done okay. I always get too nervous "playing with" my retirement money. So I give my money to a broker and tell him to invest it, and when he runs out, come back to me for more money. ;)

RE: Kids and campgrounds

Would/Did you let YOUR kids go off like that? Given the awareness today?I did let my 18 & 21 year old daughters go off to NYC on their own. We dropped them off at the train station in DC and they spent a long day in NYC, including going to Phantom of the Opera. They had a great time. The walked or took the subway all over NYC. They didn't get back to DC until almost midnight when we picked them back up at the train station (we were visiting DC for a vacation). More than one friend said I was crazy to let two young women like that go off on their own to NYC. I had no issues with it. I don't think things are really that much worse today. We are just more paranoid due to the 24/7/365.24 news cycle telling us about every little crime that happened all over the world. When we would visit my relatives who do live out in the boonies, I would let my kids "run off" for the day. As long as they had a buddy (i.e., another sibling/cousin/relative of some sort) I had no issues with it.

RE: My Health

After the second day, I'd made an appointment with my doctor. Those sort of things, more os when they have "unusual" symptoms, can be a sign of something bad.

RE: Kids and campgrounds

When I was a kid in elementary school, I had a bike (5-speed, sissy bar, banana seat, it was cool). In the summer and on weekends, I would leave the house early in the morning, go riding my bike as far as I could, and be back by dinner. I would bike MILES away from home. We had a lot of open space around our housing development at the time (Rialto, CA). Lots of open desert. There was this gravel pit that I would go to. Riding down the road to the bottom was rough but FUN. Yea, the walk back up got old, but I lived for the wild ride down that hill. My parents were never concerned (and likely never knew about the gravel pit). Other than the time I got chased off by a helicopter, that gavel pit was FUN. Had something happened to me, it would take DAYS before they found me. So were my parents "bad" for letting me go off like that? I was no more than 8 when we moved away from that area. When I would go off on my bike runs, I really enjoyed the freedom. It was great exploring new areas of my neighborhood (sadly, all of it is now filled with houses, I can't even find the site of the gravel pit anymore). Later, I even learned to pack snacks so I could stay out longer. My parents never got mad.
