RE: length rules ?

Might want to check with your insurance. You will leave the barn 14 feet too long knowing you are breaking the law. Your insurance just might frown on that. In Ca you are allowed 4" (inches) over length tolerance. Some troopers are assigned to commercial units that look for such violations. I surpervised such a unit in the San Joaquin Valley for two years. 79' translates to "copese" as "write me a ticket" and get tied up until legal. Not a cheap ticket or easy situation to make legal. Bad idea all around, IMHO.

Norcold recall failure

The infamous norcold recall just took a dump for the third time. Last year the repairman showed me how to bypass the recall so the fridge would work while awaiting parts but due to brain fade I've forgotten how. Anybody out there have a better memory? Thanks We're in Key West so a working fridge is a must.

RE: Anyone been to Skyline Drive, VA lately?

I concur with the orange. Better yet don't hike in hunting season. Gotta worry about the"idiot" that shoots at a deer they "heard". Colors are past peak. We live west of there.

RE: Starting out small..

Tamarack, just west of Berkley, WV is a good overnight stop. Big rest/truck stop with food, etc. Use the right lane going thru toll plazas. There are two on I-64 in WV. I second the generator. If a contractor model WAY too loud to use around others. Sell it and buy a Honda or Yamaha 2000i. You can add a partner later to give you 4000 watts.

RE: How much weight can I tow?

Bingo! Cat320 gets the grand prize.

RE: Generator just quit, help me troubleshoot

You need to install a Trik-l-Start to keep chassis batteries charged. They don't charge by running the generator. About $30 from CW and 30 min to install. Problem gone.

RE: Fort Lauderdale, Florida. I need advice, please.

I doubt the P.D. would let you live in your van. Google campgrounds near ft. Lauderdale and you should get get some hits.

RE: Just curious...why would they do this???

Are you sure it isn't their aqua hot systems?

RE: Sewer hoses

I lay my sewer in a piece of plastic gutter. Keeps it from squiggling around on the ground and rubbing holes in it.

RE: Replace 255-80R-22.5 tires with 295-75R-22.5

Thanks guys. That's me that asked the original question. I had computer problems and had to start as a new member. What I'm trying to do is go to a 255-75R-22.5 since the only thing available is a Michelin in the 255-80R-22.5. Anybody know if the "75" will make much difference in circumference from the "80"? I'm pretty sure I have enough wheelwell clearance but I want to make sure the sidewalls don't "kiss" on the rear axle.

RE: Must See in the Keys

We spend from Dec till May in Key West and still find something new every year. Try Harpoon Harry's Restaurant at the corner of Caroline and Margaret Streets. Great breakfasts! Reasonable prices. Try Latitudes on Sunset Key just off Key West. Free boat over and back. Make reservations the day before at 305-292-5300. Pricey but absolutely OUTSTANDING! They'll tell you about parking and they do validate. El Siboney Cuban Resataurant is also excellent and reasonable. 900 Catherine Street. The butterfly conservancy is very interesting. We've probably eaten in 50-60 different restaurants there and not had a bad meal in any of them. You must pay to park almost everywhere and it is strictly enforced. If you have bikes park out by Smathers Beach or near Fort Zachory Taylor State Park and bike everywhere. Very bicycle friendly. Just make sure you lock them up. I guarantee you'll LOVE it. The friendliest people I've ever met in my worldly travels. Just keep an open mind as there are lots of free spirits and alternate life styles there. If you don't like huge crowds try to avoid Duval Street if there is more than one cruise ship in port. They all leave port by about 5 pm.

RE: Generator help, please. Leaving in the morning

If those are original batteries you might need some new ones.

RE: RV Anti Freeze

I think that is a tiny "minus" sign in front of the 50.

RE: Horrible Accident, 5 found dead in motor home

IMHO. the safest thing to do is not run it when sleeping. An extra blanket works for me. Truly tragic.

RE: N California Lakes - Shasta or Eagle

Eagle Lake is pretty windy and more high desert. Shasta is more mountains like. Both are nice.

RE: Virginia International Raceway

Is that the one at Bristol? My sons go to Bristol and I think they said where they rv is close to the track and is $100 a night with a seven night minimum.

RE: Overnighting at rest stops?

CA has closed many rest areas because of criminal activity. One between Banning and Redlands and another west of San Bernardino come to mind. We live in a free country, so by all means stay in rest areas if you please. I personally only drive about six hours a day so don't really to stop for a few hours sleep. A truck stop is much safer as they have video surveillance and run off trouble before it happens. I know, they can be loud, but if I 'm that tired a little noise won't keep me awake. IMHO, when I can't afford to pay for an overnight stay it's time to sell.

RE: Insurance and luxury taxes

Call the Commissioner of the Revenue Office and ask. Each city, county, and town are different.

RE: speed limit signs

Ask a state trooper about it in the same way you responded to some of the answers you received. It might be a good idea to have your tooth brush with you when you do. Just for info, CA has the lowest mileage death rate in the country and one of the lowest truck at fault rates too. A lot has to do with the lower speed limits for combinations of vehicles. And I know, you didn't ask.
