RE: Fuel station asking for Zip codes and we are Canadian

It only worked one time and I tried it everytime we filled up in Texas.
The only time it worked was that one fill up in Rockport.

RE: Fairbanks, Alaska

Wonder how accurate this info is? I looked at the Snowbird Weather Areas a minute ago and it said Phoenix is 39 degrees!
We are parked out on the desert just north of Phoenix and my Oregon Scientific digital wireless themometer says 53.8F in the shade behind the motorhome at 7am our time.
Because of our location we usually read BELOW the temp for Deer Valley Airport, our nearest Phoenix weather station???

RE: Quartzsite,,,WIND

We have stayed out north of town on Plamosa Road and the desert is mostly rock. Never had a problem with dust.
It is often windy in a true desert, mother nature sez so! She will usually provide a wide diurnal range too!

RE: Campgrounds near Cincinnati, Ohio

Members can stay two nights a month for free but it's only $20.00 a night extra for more. Excellent facility, always our first stop on the way down to Az..
If you are a FMCA member you can stay at their park. It is on the opposite side of town though.

RE: Come on down, lots of room.

Good Lord people! Give your head a shake! This is the USA NOT some banana republic!! There is the rule of law in this country, even in the southwest.
Stop listening to Fox News, they are using hyperbole and fear to sell comercial space. If your economic situation allows it, follow your dream of warmer weather while you still can.
One of those comercials says .. "America runs on Dunkin" IT DOES NOT RUN ON FEAR!
We are going on a day trip to Algodones Mx on Monday. Wish us luck!

RE: Why do you go to AZ

According to the weather forecast I just looked at:
The high temp today at home is 14F with snow squalls and a hazardous weather advisory!
The high temp here in far north Phoenix is 76F and sunny today! Was about 80F yesterday, 81F on New Years day and and sunny with temps in the mid to upper 70s for the rest of the week!
When I'm too old and decrepit to do this is when I'll sit under a blanket at home and look out of the window.
Gonna walk over to the pool now.
Bye.

RE: AZ & FL, a couple of differences!

Been to Florida about 15 times over the last 40 years for vacations and such. Spent the last 4 winters in Az and you couldn't pay me to stay in Florida for a whole winter. A week or 2 maybe, but for 5 months I need the mountains, canyons, rivers and deserts of the southwest.
Too crowded, too much traffic, too developed in Florida.
We are in an rv park on the northern city limit of Phoenix and I can literally hike, bike or atv 80 miles of mountain and desert wilderness trails by heading out from the back of our rv lot and go all the way to the Prescott National Forest.
Or ... its 10 min. to all the shopping malls, theatres and restaurants we could want.
Check out our local wilderness @ ...
http://www.bctaz.com/index.html
Now, if you really want to get away from it all there's those millions of acres of BLM land open to boondocking for hundreds of miles in all directions.

Campgrounds near or in San Antonio

We are in Rockport and are off to see the Alamo and do the River Walk in San Antonio for a few days.
What would be your campround recommendations for our 35' motorhome and towed car? And any other must-see attractions and restaurants greatfully appreciated!
Thanks

Kentucky RV Propane Refill

We are heading to the great American southwest and will be looking for a propane refill near I71 east or I75 south of Louisville Ky.
Our route will take us down to Elizabethtown from Louiseville then southwest on the West KY Parkway, so somewhere along there would work too.
Thanks in advance.

RE: Prepping for 6 mo. on the road - seeking advice on it all!

Yup! That about covers it for us too. As far as the bills go, everything including house taxes is on equalized billing or auto withdrawl and the credit cards are handled with internet banking.
You probably will take too much stuff with you the first time. Think about your needs and cut back on the packing, when you find you need something you didn't bring, buy it on the road.
We will head out for 5 months in AZ in Nov. Can't wait!
Don
We have all our bills paid thru auto debit from checking or visa. I call all the credit card companies and let them know where we wil possibly be, how to get in touch with us, and our address and the dates for the winter.
I have the house phone shut off by the phone company.
The oil company knows we are away, but delivers oil thru the winter and its paid by visa. They do not leave the fill sip in the door, but mail it to us.
Our neighbor gets our mail and sends us what I need(gave her a list).I bought the pre=paid express envelopes, so she just stuffs them full and mails one per month.
We have another neighbor check the house. If anything goes wrong, we have a friend who is a handyman to fix small problems, if they arise.
We buy our truck plates stickers ahead of time, and make sure we have all our insurances up to date.
As Canadians, we buy our travel health to cover us for the time away.
We also have a home based business. A friend can send out pkgs for us, or we ship direct thru our distributor.
Hope this helps you. There is lots to arrange before going away, and we leave for Quartzsite on Oct 22nd. I keep a spiral tablet with a page for each company, with phone numbers and pertinent info needed. Dona

RE: Weather in south west

I guess it depends on where you spend the winter.
We will be in the very far north end of Phoenix for our 4th winter in another month. (Pioneer RV near Anthem.) Again this year we have booked a site that backs onto the desert and the whole campground is "outta town" with hills and desert on all sides. We have never experienced any noticable dust problem even when it gets windy. The desert around us is rocky with lots of mesquite, palo verde and seguaro.
The I10/I8 corridor to the south has a different topography; flatter, a lot of bare areas with soft surface and little vegetative ground cover. More of a dust problem I think.
Trust me. If we had a real winter dust problem my wife wouldda told we about it!
