RE: Mission or Brownsville, TX.

We stayed on South Padre for one month our first year and in Mission for two winters. Then we moved on to AZ for the next winter so we would be closer to our children and we could see them for Christmas. We have been talking about going back to the RGV even if only for a month or so because we MISS the beautiful birds. We loved going to the birding areas. We are thinking that the last week of October and all of November might be a good time to head to the Valley because of the butterfly migration. We can't go this year because of family obligations. Hopefully NEXT year! Ahhh... can't wait to see all those BEAUTIES!

RE: RGV Mission Tx

We stayed in the RGV for 3 winters: one on South Padre Island and two winters at Bentsen Grove RV Park in Mission. In my opinion, you need to stay LONGER than 3 weeks. By staying 3 weeks, you just get a 'first impression' of the area and you really don't get to see what the RGV has to offer. That's just my opinion. With a first impression, you will see the spray painted areas, the litter, and the poor (very poor) living conditions. Stay longer and get out to the state parks, the wildlife refuges, the birding areas, the flea markets, and the local events and shops. You will discover fabulous tropical birds that take your breath away, fascinating Mexican shops, and lots of places to explore. Take a trip to a colonia and hear their stories to get an understanding of the struggles of the local people. Go horseback riding along the beach on So. Padre Island. Spend a day at the wildlife refuge near Padre Is. Also visit Santa Ana Wildlife Refuge. We particularly enjoyed biking and bird watching. We found many unique areas by exploring on our bikes. There were so many places to see spectacular birds and we found ourselves going to these areas over and over again. During our stay at Bentsen Grove, our evenings were filled with playing cards and games with other people. Once we got beyond the "first impression" stage and got involved in activities in the Valley, we realized that the Valley is a very special place. But you need to stay longer than 3 weeks and you need to get involved in the activities and events to see the beauty of the area. Watch for the annual event at King Ranch and take a tour while you are there.

RE: edge of rubber roof tearing

I just tried the directions to posting a picture, but it didn't work. I will have to practice! Our photoshop address is cardonkre.photoshop.com. We called Arctic Fox and sent pictures through email. They said that the tear along the edge (116 inches) is not a warranty item. They said they would give us an estimate to repair it. We used EternaBond tape to repair it ourselves. We used the 4" tape, but after completing the job, we wished we had used the 2" tape. The 2" tape is all that was needed and it would have been easier to handle. Since the tear was on a edge, this took two people to manage the tape. Thanks, Don

RE: edge of rubber roof tearing

Thanks for your input. I think there may be just enough room for tape. It appears that the roofing material is applied over possibly plywood. It is on the TOP edge ... right along that corner... where the roofing material wraps around the side and tucks under the plywood. There is the thickness of the plywood on the vertical side for applying tape. Could the rubbing on the edge of the plywood have caused the cut along that edge?? I have the picture on my desktop. HOW DO I GET THE PICTURE INTO THIS POST?

edge of rubber roof tearing

We just noticed that the edge of the rubber roof where it meets the side of the RV is tearing right along the edge. How is something like this repaired?

RE: Comparable to Arctic Fox?

We hunted for several months with QUALITY and GOOD USE OF SPACE as our criteria. We chose the Arctic Fox 27-5L. (But the Arctic fox 29-5 is also nice.) We have used it for 3 years and it works well for us. Very nice.
