RE: small computer printers

This is the Original Poster. Thanks for all of your suggestions! They were very helpful. We bought an Epson Stylus NX430. It is called a SMALL-IN-ONE. It is just 5.7" tall, 11.8" deep, and 15.4" wide. It weighs about 9 pounds. It prints, copies, scans, and does photos. It was on sale at Office Max for $49.99. We checked the online reviews and they were good. Thanks again!

RE: small computer printers

THANKS FOR ALL OF YOUR IDEAS! We appreciate it. We are going shopping this weekend to look at some of those that you suggested. We have looked online at reviews, but you can't see the actual size or feel the weight, Thanks again for taking the time to give us your reviews for what has worked for you! Don

small computer printers

Has anyone found a small computer printer for use in your RV? We have a MacBook and we would like to find a smaller, lightweight printer for basic printing. Thanks!

RE: HOW TO pack for fulltiming

Just move the rv into the driveway and start living in it. Today. By the time you close on your house, everything you need will be in it. Actually, we CANNOT move the RV into the driveway and start living in it. Our 5th wheel is in storage right now. We have snow on the ground. When we close this month, we plan to put what is leftover in storage. We will head south and rent a park model for two months. Our 5th wheel will be stored until April or May 1. We are paid through April 1 as of now. We thought we would take some of the larger things that have not sold in our *indoor* moving sale and put them in a consignment shop. For the smaller things, we will have a garage sale with a relative in the spring in her driveway. We are getting there. Right now the biggest thing is to sell as much as we can. ALL furniture is gone except for a small desk. We could donate that to a local school if they will take it. The hardest part has been to narrow down clothes. We still have too many clothes set aside.

RE: HOW TO pack for fulltiming

Thank you for all of the ideas! We appreciate it! We are excited to go. Our biggest problem is letting go.... letting go of fun souvenir t-shirts, sweatshirts, and jackets that we have collected over the years from the places we have traveled... letting go of some nice, nice dress clothes. But... progress... my wife put her leather jacket in the moving sale pile (I haven't parted with mine, yet!) We have about 5 more weeks to pare down. THANKS FOR ALL OF THE SUGGESTIONS! We will re-read them throughout the next month! Lots of ideas!

HOW TO pack for fulltiming

Sold the house, close in January, disposing of possessions now. Does anyone have any tips on how to pack the 5th wheel to make the most use of available space? There is a lot of room in the shower; we will have the laundry baskets on the floor but is there any way to use the space above it? All tips will be appreciated! Help us pack!! Thanks!

RE: Social Security Cards Now Required to buy with a check?

I think that posibly, that may have been the law at one time, however the people at SS now say it is not a violation to ask for you to give your SS'n. It's kind of a catch 22 situation. Some one may ask but not require your SS'n. But if you refuse they can denie your request. We had a credit card for many years at our favorite department store. Since we have been retired for three years, we have not been in that store. Recently we went there to purchase pants and our credit card was rejected. They said we had not used it for a few years so we were removed from the system. They told us we would need to apply for a new credit card which included giving them our social security number. We refused to give the number and they refused the application. Bummer... our favorite store is now history to us.

RE: Is any one else still traveling?

And all responses so far are from people who have been doing this for several years. I'm wondering where all the new fulltimers who travel are - or has the economy done in so many people? Barb We are NEW fulltimers. We close on our house Feb. 1. We have been snowbirding for 3 years and now we will not have to return to any specific location. Yahoo! We hope to meet many fulltimers on the road. Thanks!

RE: Bank that is nationwide

THANKS FOR EVERYONE'S SUGGESTIONS. We appreciate the time that you took to give us advice. We were surprised at the number of people that mentioned credit unions. We went online and found a credit union in the area where we will be spending half a year. That credit union belongs to a NETWORK of ATMs. From the map on their web site, it looks like they have ATMs in many locations. Thanks again for your input. It has been very helpful and has opened our eyes to the possibilities.

EdenPURE and Broan 6201 heaters

Have any of you used either of these two heaters for your RV? (EdenPURE or Broan 6201) What has been your experience? Would you recommend either one?

Bank that is nationwide

We are going to be fulltimers in a few months. We are looking for a bank that would be nationwide so that we could stop there and make a deposit or withdrawal. What do you all recommend? What do you think about Wells Fargo?

RE: Best campground in Apache Junction for us?

Go southwest from Apache Junction to the Arizonian. You will go through Gold Canyon on your way.

RE: Progreso MX

2009, first week of December, police chase IN Progreso. Customers hid in back of stores. Spring 2010, we were standing on corner at the entry of Progreso and two police trucks went by us fast and all of the police officers (with rifles) had their faces covered. They headed toward the outskirts of town. I hope the two blocks on main street remain quiet for all of us shoppers but to say there have been no problems is not correct.

Medica health insurance in South Dakota

Does anyone have Medica health insurance with a South Dakota domicile? Has it worked out for you? We are getting close to full timing and we are looking at possible medical insurance. Thanks!

RE: Mission or Brownsville, TX.

We stayed on South Padre for one month our first year and in Mission for two winters. Then we moved on to AZ for the next winter so we would be closer to our children and we could see them for Christmas. We have been talking about going back to the RGV even if only for a month or so because we MISS the beautiful birds. We loved going to the birding areas. We are thinking that the last week of October and all of November might be a good time to head to the Valley because of the butterfly migration. We can't go this year because of family obligations. Hopefully NEXT year! Ahhh... can't wait to see all those BEAUTIES!

RE: RGV Mission Tx

We stayed in the RGV for 3 winters: one on South Padre Island and two winters at Bentsen Grove RV Park in Mission. In my opinion, you need to stay LONGER than 3 weeks. By staying 3 weeks, you just get a 'first impression' of the area and you really don't get to see what the RGV has to offer. That's just my opinion. With a first impression, you will see the spray painted areas, the litter, and the poor (very poor) living conditions. Stay longer and get out to the state parks, the wildlife refuges, the birding areas, the flea markets, and the local events and shops. You will discover fabulous tropical birds that take your breath away, fascinating Mexican shops, and lots of places to explore. Take a trip to a colonia and hear their stories to get an understanding of the struggles of the local people. Go horseback riding along the beach on So. Padre Island. Spend a day at the wildlife refuge near Padre Is. Also visit Santa Ana Wildlife Refuge. We particularly enjoyed biking and bird watching. We found many unique areas by exploring on our bikes. There were so many places to see spectacular birds and we found ourselves going to these areas over and over again. During our stay at Bentsen Grove, our evenings were filled with playing cards and games with other people. Once we got beyond the "first impression" stage and got involved in activities in the Valley, we realized that the Valley is a very special place. But you need to stay longer than 3 weeks and you need to get involved in the activities and events to see the beauty of the area. Watch for the annual event at King Ranch and take a tour while you are there.

RE: edge of rubber roof tearing

I just tried the directions to posting a picture, but it didn't work. I will have to practice! Our photoshop address is cardonkre.photoshop.com. We called Arctic Fox and sent pictures through email. They said that the tear along the edge (116 inches) is not a warranty item. They said they would give us an estimate to repair it. We used EternaBond tape to repair it ourselves. We used the 4" tape, but after completing the job, we wished we had used the 2" tape. The 2" tape is all that was needed and it would have been easier to handle. Since the tear was on a edge, this took two people to manage the tape. Thanks, Don

RE: edge of rubber roof tearing

Thanks for your input. I think there may be just enough room for tape. It appears that the roofing material is applied over possibly plywood. It is on the TOP edge ... right along that corner... where the roofing material wraps around the side and tucks under the plywood. There is the thickness of the plywood on the vertical side for applying tape. Could the rubbing on the edge of the plywood have caused the cut along that edge?? I have the picture on my desktop. HOW DO I GET THE PICTURE INTO THIS POST?

edge of rubber roof tearing

We just noticed that the edge of the rubber roof where it meets the side of the RV is tearing right along the edge. How is something like this repaired?
