RE: 5th wheel TH with at least a 16' garage and over 6000 CCC

Horses aren't going to work, the rest, well, IF you can locate one of the Weekend Warriors without slides and set up for a jeep then you might have a chance. I have a 2003 that has the extra support in the door and floor, a winch under the kitchen cabinet to load and unload with, along with 5k tiedowns in each corner to hook your tiedowns to. I haul a TJ Jeep all the time in it with no problems. BUT, that is going to be like finding a toothpick in a haystack. I know they built a few but like mine, they are probably still using them. Otherwise I think a featherlight is in your future. Good luck!

RE: Dog Locked Us Out of Truck

Been there, done it. I thought the same thing about the doors not locking, my old truck would not lock if the keys were in the ign but no, not this 2011 chevy, it will lock right up. Dog locked the door while I was checking the tires in a rest area, 100 degrees, of course all the cell phones were in the truck along with billfold, engine was off, now what??? Lucked out that there was a couple in the rest area with on-star and after three attempts we got the doors opened. Dog was really getting hot by that time. We now follow the extra key in the trailer rule. By the way, needed it the last trip, yep, dog did it again while I was hooking up! I believe he is starting to think its funny.

RE: under counter coffee maker where to buy?

We have a B&D undercounter type that works great, have used it for the last 10 years, has not interfered with the cabinets, hope the newer ones work as good.

RE: Differential Oil

The only comment I have is that if you are towing heavy go to the optional 75/140 oil, I almost burned mine up towing with the factory 75/90 oil, turned the case and cover bronze and burned the paint off the housing all the way out into the axles. Never again will I tow heavy without changing to the heavier oil. FYI!

RE: What is your GM Diesel mileage experience?

10.5 towing, 15-16 around town, 19-19.5 highway unless I push it over 70 mph. Very disappoinitng compared to my '03 2500HD (yes, I understand I now have a heavier vehicle with extra rubber on the road and those darn emissions additions): old truck - 11.5-12 towing, 17-18 city, and 22-23 highway! I miss that mileage, but not the towing limitations.Boy, I have a truck just like yours except it's a Chevy, empty driving 55-60 highway it is getting 14-16, around town it averages 11. First tow pulling 12k it got 8.3 at 58 mph. Makes me wish I still had my 2002, at least it got 10 towing and that was at 70. With the Edge add on computer it had more power than the 2011. I guess thats the price we pay for buying newer stuff.

RE: New Diesel Truck

Also what about the "wait to start light". I just bought a new 2011 Chevy and it doesn't have one, dealer said you don't have to wait to start anymore on the Duramax.
And all 2011 chevy duramax's have the exhaust brake I believe.

RE: HF Radio Antenna on 5th wheel?

I went the other direction, mounted my screwdriver and 2/70 on the truck along with the turbo tuner for the tarheel. This way I have a much better ground plane and I carry a couple of extra pieces of coax so I can hook up to the truck when parked and use my base radio from the trailer.

RE: Jacking up tri-axle 40' toy hauler

Just put the jack under the spring right at the end of the axle and do one wheel at a time. This doesn't load the landing gear much and works just fine although if it were me I'd leave it hooked to the truck just for safety. I have changed a tire along side the road as well as replaced all the brakes using this method on my WW 3705.

RE: Reese 30033 Rail & Mounting Bracket Kit for 2011 Chevy

I had the reese 20k installed at the dealer on my 2011 3500 hd and they said only Curt makes a mounting bracket for the 11's.
BobI just had a new reese rail kit installed in my 2011 dually, got it from reese.

RE: Water Heater Anode rod issue

Mine screws in a long way, it is hard to get the threads to line up and start correctly. I would make sure it is screwed in all the way as there could be some pressure on it when hot.

What to do about mail?

We are planning on taking a two to three month trip next winter but are having problems finding out what to do about the mail. Post office will only hold it for 30 days, no one to handle it for us. What do others do?
Also what do you do to keep up with the occasional paper products that get dropped in the driveway while you are away or about having the house checked. We live in a rural area, no close neighbors, no relatives or friends close by. Are there companies that offer this as a service or what?

You said "WE". Does that mean you SHARED the driving or you did it all yourself?

RE: pinbox ripped while traveling

You know it really does happen, not something I'd want to make a habit of but we towed almost 26 hrs straight to get home when my wife's mother was dying and we were out in the far reaches of Colorado. Another time we towed for 18 hrs to get to family reunion after I couldn't get off work when I was supposed to and we had to get there in a short amount of time so...it does happen. FYI.
