RE: Bayou Teche Scenic Byway .. Southern Louisiana

We are making a Louisiana trip this summer too. Planning on heading there from Disney. Looking to hit the casinos on the way and must see Lafayette. Problem is the trip keeps growing. Any suggestions either post or send PM.

RE: Ojo Caliente Resort

I was at the resort a few years ago. The spa was a real deal and a very neat place. We spent the entire day there. The resort at that time was primitive but a good place to stay if you were going to spend a few days at the spa.

RE: Perplexed - rotten egg smell in shower only

The OP said "The smell only comes when taking a shower". If it was a trap or vent the smell would be there all the time.
Sometimes yes and sometimes no. I would think,I smelled mine when I used a sink. And sometimes I would think there was a faint smell of sulfur. The water placed in a bowl had no odor. I replaced the vents, for a few dollars purchased at a local hardware store and it cured the problem. If the water itself does not smell anywhere else in the unit, I would think this could be the issue.

RE: Perplexed - rotten egg smell in shower only

Are you sure it is coming from the water? There is a vent in the piping that sometimes causes a nasty smell. When mine went bad it smelled like it could be sewer but then again not quite. There are several of them. I had one under the shower. May be worth checking.

RE: Sturgis

Looking for a decent RV park to stay in during 8/4/12 thru 8/12/12 for the 2012 SD Sturgis bike rally. We would like large premium site, quite nights, reasonably priced, & at least 30 mi. outside of Sturgis. Any thoughts would be appreciated, thanks.
Forget the Premium site, if we want to be away from the action we stay at Custer Gulch which is a the entrance to the Park. Its close to Rushmore and some of the other attractions. The sites are large full service with campfire rings. The Spearfish KOA is a decent campground as well but very popular. Folks usually book that in advance. Rafter J as the other poster stated is a nice campground, we just wanted to be closer to the Park. The KOA in Rushmore usually is booked well in advance of the Rally. Stay away from the campgrounds along the interstate.

RE: Tri-axle toy haulers: E-rated tires?

I really don't want to start another tire thread, buuut:
My old rig with two axles blew several tires until I finally coughed up the cash for GY G-rated G614's. Then all problems disappeared.
I've pulled the new tri-axle rig about 5K miles so far without problem or weird wear patterns on the (stock) tires.
Do you TH tri-axle drivers with more miles than me have tire problems? Did you upgrade to a higher weight rating?
I have G rated tires on mine, and it is a heavy unit. The tires have 35,000 + miles on them and they still look pretty good. I am going to replace them shortly because the DOT is an 07. For peace of mind the upgrade is always better if you can swing the cost.

RE: Reminder: No selling stuff on the forum

I always get a kick out of the guys that think they're sneaky. "Gosh, where should I post about the RV I have for sale..."

RE: Reminder: No selling stuff on the forum

I've had to delete a lot of for sale / wanted posts lately. Even if you're offering an item for free, you still can't post it here on the forum. If you want to horse trade with another member, send a PM instead of a public post. And how should we determine who to PM if they don't indicate they have items for sale/wanted in a post?
Then don't, smart guy.
I wasn't being smart, just stating the obvious problem with the present arrangement.
I am glad it was you who asked the question first. Saved me the embarrassment, because I was going to ask the same question.

RE: Changing oil and filter in generator?

I just changed the oil in my Onan 5500 on my Bounder couple of weeks ago. It 2 quarts Onan 15W-40 and Onan filter cost just under $20. Make sure you have the right filter cup wrench. Took about 10 mintues.
My 5500 takes 3 1/2 qts with a filter change. Did you check to see if it was full?
Each Generator states on it how much oil it takes. My 5500 takes two quarts. I have prepared a pdf file on how to change the oil with photos is anyone is interested PM me and leave email address.

RE: Ponderosa Campground, Cody, Wy

They are very nice folks. I stayed there and could not fit into the sites available they put me into two sites. This was in the front of the campground. They do have some larger sites but they were taken.

RE: Texas d/l headache

Wife and I went today to turn in our Colorado drivers license for a Texas d/l. Waited in line for 2 hrs. then they wouldn't let us use our Escapees address. They said we had to have a physical Texas address (in cases of emergency). We filled out all those papers with Escapees but the DMV said it didn't count. After another hour of waiting and dicussion we were issued our d/l using an empty piece of property we own along with the Escapees address. Guess if there is an emergency they can go to the property and tell a deer or something. Ridiculous.
Jeff
My son said he was turned away last week with a driver license from another state, a passport,a certified birth certificate and proof of occupancy. He moved a business there three years ago and has a number of employees. They wanted a physical social security card.

RE: After market diesel fuel filters

I for one am not going to be "drinking the Kool-Aid". Life is way to short to stress over the small stuff. I have not had a single problem with any of my emissions diesel trucks and I will just go on living my life. I change fuel filters every other oil change and drain the water seperator frequently. I have a better chance of getting run over by a bus than I do of having HPFP issues.
Do not kid yourself!!!! I felt the same way in 2008, till a truck with less than 5,000 miles stopped. All that it takes is a bad tank of fuel and all the preventative in the world will not help you. I believe what the op is saying is that the diesel fuel waters separators used currently are lacking. I agree with him. They should modify the design or put one similar to what the big trucks use.
You mean like the ones on the big trucks I've been making my living with for decades and have drained maybe a teaspoon of water out in that same time? :h
I am not sure if it's the antique one you have been using for decades, but I was speaking about the one's used in the big rigs. They would be a better fix than what we are now using.
It's a fix for a problem that doesn't really exist. I have had to drain virtually no water out the tractor trailers I've driven for decades. The OEM filters on pickups do the job for the relatively small amount of fuel they consume.
Look I am not looking to argue with you but I have owned construction equipment and large trucks over the years. We never had the problems that these filters are causing. If you have been lucky with a pickup filter fine. The fact remains that the filter fails suddenly and by the time the light comes on your engine is done. It is not just one guy read the forums. My problem was in 2008, this is 2011 and it is still happening. I drain my filter monthly and seldom get any water. That is not the issue, that is maintenance.
