RE: Kids and campgrounds

Parents not watching the children is one of the few things that really gets to me about camping, we raised our three children and when we camped with them they respected other campers and did not play in others sites and wander in and out of places they did not belong because we watched them. Many of the parents today seem to feel it is ok to have your kids wander and bother others, Hitting rv's with balls and toys ,short cuts with bikes through someone elses site ,Hanging out at the bathrooms , really your camping and the best the kids can do is hangout at the bathrooms? Dont get me wrong I love my kids(all grown) but I have done my time, parents today should raise children as we did , after all it is a full time job if done right even when camping.

RE: Outfitting the Tow Vehicle

I have one of the chest type, lower than the bed sides and fully across the bed and it is no problem at all on a long bed truck, adds lot of storage, but you take some of the bed away when not towing which is not a problem for me. The only problem I have had is with the box itself, the latches and locking are a pain because the box I have is aluminum and it flexes with heat so I added two hasps painted black and use combo locks.

RE: 5th wheel tail gate

Personal I dont like the look of them when not towing, I dont mind going back and opening and closing the tail gate makes me take a look at everything everytime I hookup or unhook, I guess they make things a bit easier but that sound like a lot of $$$ always thought they were less .

RE: When are you ready to go home?

You may feel better in a largr trailer, we never want to go home once we get the chance to get away. We love being on the road but so far have only been able to spend one month at a time traveling. I do get a little bored if we stay in one place longer than 10 days withbut going anywhere os seeing anything new. I just want to move not go home .

RE: Virginia to Plymouth MA

If you have the time you should take the inland route, 81, 78, 80, 90, 495 stay away from 95 through NY and CT lots of construction and delays and crazy drivers, Lane shifts and narrow lanes. In all our travels the worst part of any trip is always the New England part in NY and CT on 95, which we live near and have to use to get home. Go anyway but 95. The last time I pulled the trailer over the Tapenzee Bridge is was $22 coming north. But worth it to avoid the GW and the whole 95 mess. good luck and safe travels

RE: Slide out hydraulic pump

As others have said you can try the Hitchhiker owner's forum or give the NUWA factory a call, they are very helpful. Check out the factory website and you can get a number to call. They also have some archived stuff.

RE: How about an EcoBoost sticky?

Some people have heard enough about this and how this motor will soon be replacing tractor-trailers on the open road, ford could not have done a better marketing job on this. It would be good to give it a rest and wait for some real time information after some real towing has been done. Just an idea.

RE: Using Helium in a fifth wheel.

I guess the technology is now here-----http://www.keystone-highcountry.com/montana/index.php?page=MHC_intro
Wonder if they leave out a lot of the studs like Teton and HitchHiker?
Where did you get your info on Teton and Hitchhiker?? I have been to both factories ( years ago at Teton) and did not see any missing Studs on the production line??

RE: Good Campsites around Nashville and Memphis

Also recomend the COE campgrounds near nashville, we always stay at seven points what a great place but you will need to plan ahead local folks love fishing there. Seven points is close to the opry and the mall and a little longer drive to downtown but a nice place to stay

RE: Suction on holding tank cap.

it is due to a vacuum when the drain vale is closed and the cap is on there is no where for air to go , heat up or cool down the pipe and you get a vacuum, not much you can due it about other than leave the cap off when not in travel in fact this is telling you that the cap and the drain valve or valves have a tight seal.

RE: How fast do you tow your 5'er

65 is where I get my best mpg and also do not feel good about all that weight and mass getting out of control not in a rush when we are towing. Our tire are G's and i think rated for 75mph

RE: Plumbing mystery

the anti back-flow feature on your pump may have failed .... if so, it allowed city water to flow from the water lines, back through the pump and into the fresh water tank ... as to how it got into the gray tank, the only thing I can think of is the water level in that tank may have been right on the edge of activating the second sensor .... if so, it would only take a little additional gray water added while you were testing to activate the light
JimX2
X3 We never leave the campsite for that long and leave the water on , we always turn the water off at the water supply and also turn off the water pump if we are dry camping as well as the water heater. check your check valve on your city supply. You may want to look into battery operated leak dectors I have them under each sink and at the water pump in case something leaks and we are around the trailer we will know before we damage the wood floor or carpet. You could also leave your fresh water tank drain open when connected to city water if you see it draining you know you have a problem, good luck and safe travels

RE: Generator

Our fifth wheel has the prep but I like having the storage space that the built in generator would take up. I have two honda 2000I's and store them in a bed box in the truck and have the storage space in the fifth wheel. We dont use the generators that often so having the extra space in the trailer is more useful than the built in generator would be for us . We do have to carry a gas can where the built in one would use propane.

RE: Friends wanna go along....

we have gone with the tent idea for years, we dont care for others to stay in our trailer either we like to get away not bring everyone with us but when the kids do show up we just give them the tent.Funny not as many family member want to join us when we talk tent.Dont get me wrong we like people but we also like our time together. also if they are not campers they are not much help.

RE: Fifth wheel hitched to truck

If your in warm weather and on black top you could damage the black top surface from the weight on the rear truck tires causing them to sink in. But I would guess your talking about being in a campground so that should not happen. I would think no harm would come from staying hooked up as long as your some what level. I once tried to open my slides on a trailer we had and because i was hooked up and not level there was some stress on the slides and they hung up, no damage but that trailer did not like being hooked up and having the slides opened.

RE: what truck do I need

Buy the right truck the first time so you dont have to take a big hit when you fine you need more truck which you can never have to much of, in your case I would go with at least a 2500HD if not a 3500HD single rear wheel truck either will have the 6.0 but if you get the diesel you would be ready for your next trailer, we had to learn the hard way after three trucks we now have a good match and it is so much nicer to tow a trailer with the right tryck , good luck and safe travels
