RE: Total Noob Question

IMHO, I don't think we would buy our second trailer at a RV show again. We jumped at the chance to pick up the trailer we wanted (and, for the record, we absolutely love it), but after hearing so many 1st hand accounts from other RV owners, we have come up with a different idea. We will most definitely keep going to the shows. But only for research purposes (and to dream a little......or a lot!). Once we figure out what we want, we challenge the dealers to beat each other in price. Now, let's keep in mind that we are in Alberta, so we can do that here. I don't know what it's like in the U.S., but I would think it's close to the same. Anyways, FWIW, my two cents. Derek

RE: Allure Flooring Install starts

We put that (almost) exact product down in our house. Once we got the hang of it, it went down smooth as silk. We have had it in high traffic areas for 2 years now and are extremely pleased. One thing to keep in mind.......it is RIDICULOUSLY prone to static. Dog hair just seems to get pulled off the hound. Enjoy it! D

RE: Edmonton area RV parks

@ johnbo - FYI, my wife and I spent our first two nights in our first TT at the Devon Lions Campground and liked it so much that we went back a week later and actually had our wedding reception there 3 months later. The staff were awesome, and the CG was great. Right along the North Saskatchewan river and 20 minutes from West Edmonton Mall. There is also a golf course right beside the CG. Spacious sites, nice bathrooms/showers, and all around a pleasant place to be. JMHO. Happy trails! Derek

RE: Alberta Fires & British Columbia Hwy 16 washouts - 18 May

Just an update folks. Alberta is under a Province wide fire ban right now. And, being that it's the first long weekend of the year, a lot of CGs have instituted liquor bans to boot. Good luck, and stay safe folks. D

RE: Tank dumping horror stories -- what are yours?

So, it was the last weekend in May, 2010. The DW (fiance at the time) went to Bow Valley, Kananaskis for the weekend with a friend of ours. Now, although this was our third trip with the new trailer, this was the first time we used the washroom facilities, as we were finally de-winterized (this IS Alberta, after all). The weekend went fine, although a tad chilly/snowy/rainy. Beer helped with that. And to top it off, the weather kept the crowds away. On the way out of the CG, we stopped at the ump station to empty the tanks. And lo and behold, a couple with their brand new trailer, out for their first trip, was dumping at the other inlet. Now, they have the owners' manual out and are looking quite quizically at their dump valves. So, naturally, as this was our 3rd trip, I am quite the expert about all things RV:R . Their question was that the two valves on their TT both had grey handles, which one was the grey and which one was the black? So I showed them the difference in diameters, and all was settled. I then proceeded to set up our dump. Thankfully, there wasn't anyone else in the campground at this point. I hook up, and the DW goes inside to prepare to bomb a couple of pails of water down the toilet. I placed the buisness end in the dump pipe and secured it as best I could. I pull the black tank handle and the good stuff starts flowing. Soon, very soon, I realized that nothing is coming out of the hose! I think that something is plugged, and call the DW out to get her opinion. 'Well.......did you take the cap off the end of the hose?'. Oh.....crap. Thankfully, we invested in some 'Homer Simpson-esgue' nuclear handling green rubber gloves, because, I get to take the cap off now. There's a reason that dumping is a 'Blue Job'. http://s908.photobucket.com/albums/ac283/derelique/?action=view¤t=BowValleyMay004.jpg height=400 width=300

RE: We finally ran into our first unpleasant neighbor

Ok, well we just got back from spring break....... *sigh*....... We just got hit with another dump of 4" of wet snow and it'll be -13 Celsius (8 Fahrenheit) tonight. Camping seems so far away....... Our first neighbour better not be a jerk! :B Derek

RE: Hamburger Recipes....

1 pound Lean Ground Beef 1 pound Lean Ground Pork 4 slices Maple Flavoured Bacon – uncooked and diced really small 1 tbsp Smoked Paprika 2 tbsp French’s Mustard ½ tsp salt 1 tsp garlic powder 1 egg Diced onion – to taste 8 slices provolone cheese – for garnish Throw everything but the cheese in a big bowl and mix it well. Form 8 ¼ pound patties and throw ‘em on the grill. These are NOT calorie conscious. I call them ‘My Big Boy Burgers’. I top mine with my homemade Kansas City BBQ sauce. I make these the night before we go camping and EVERYONE drools when they start cookin. Smells like breakfast (the maple bacon), tastes like..........good. Derek
