RE: Nitrogen in tires

A pretty definitive analysis of the usefulness of nitrogen can be found here.
Bottom line - save your money, it's no better than air.

Hang in there friend, it's always darkest just before the dawn. The best medicine is a positive attitude, sometimes hard to maintain, but its important.

RE: Good Sam ERS & Cracker Barrel

We're to big for the RV slots anyway (60') so we just park as far out in the lot as possible. It is the rare, small CB where we cannot find a spot. We eat at CB all the time - on a trip from AZ to eastern TN last year I think we hit 20 in a week! Don't overnight there as much as we did before we retired, but still do once in a while.
Always room to park and consistently good food and service.

RE: satellite

We've had a Winegard Trav'ler for two years. Seven to eight months a year on the road and we have only run into 2 or 3 places where trees caused a problem.
Love the Trav'ler, push a button and walk away, come back 15 minutes later and it is locked on all three Dish Network sats. Works with our DVR, we can record two channels and watch a recorded show or record one channel and watch another.

RE: Running Lights

A neat and easy mod but please, please, please turn it off at night when you go to bed.
X2 - I fail to understand why people feel the need to artificially light up a campground, especially a rustic one.

RE: A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Factory

Good for Clifford. My bet is he was reacting to a high pitched whine from the compressor bearing. They hear (and smell) a lot of things we are oblivious of.

RE: Secure Wi-Fi on the road???

In spite of using a secure website it is my understanding that an public WiFi connection is far from secure.
For $20 a month we can activate our Verizon cell phone as a hot spot and use that for any secure transactions. Belt and suspenders maybe.

RE: Best WiFi booster

I got an "RV kit" from Data Alliance that included a magnetic antenna mount that I could put on the roof. Putting it up on the roof did not gain much, so now I just use the booster which is similar to, but not the same as, this one.
It really helps improve reception compared to the internal airport in our Apple laptops.
A friend who is an electronics engineer told me it will probably not help much when the slow speed is due to an overloaded system, but it will help get you "to the front of the line".
When the issue is just a weak signal due to distance from the transmitter it is a miracle worker.
We just set the antenna on the table between our recliners by the big back window and it works great.

RE: New Regulations Affecting RV Travel?

About the only thing that currently has the potential to make life harder for RVers are licensing issues, created by by the homeland security eyewash, that require proof of domicile. That mainly effects full timers, a small percentage of us, and there are ways around it.
See my comment on that linked post.

RE: Tire Pressure for dual wheels

Never heard of it either, doesn't seem to make much sense. Duels on the truck are all the same, duals on the fiver all 8 are the same.

Take a look at Bradd & Hall. We found a pair of very reasonably priced, locally made recliners there.

Been hashed over many times. Changes over time.
New Horizons, Teton (no longer made), Newmar, DRV (Mobile Suites), HR Presidential.
Bet others can add more.

RE: Weighting Motorhome

We are about to weigh our motorhome. We understand that a typical truck scale at like a Pilot will give you both axel weights as well as the total weight. Where do you go to get the four corner weight?
Thanks.
You might find a commercial location like a gravel pit that will let you weigh corners, but the best bet is someone like RV Safety. You can usually find them at rallies. They have a schedule on their website.

RE: Avoiding Chicago

Going to Washington, DC there is no reason to stay north. I would recommend I-39 to I-74, then pick up I-70 east in Indy.

RE: Winegard TRAV'LER DIRECTV Slimline

Love our Trav'ler! I think we have only had trouble with trees two or three times since we bought it 2010 and we have been on the road for about eight months during that time.
Took all the frustration out of setting up the dish, push a button and it sets itself up.

RE: Places to stay and things to see????

In Tucson we really like Desert Trails.
Lots of things to do and see. Don't miss the Desert Museum
If you are a western movie buff Old Tucson is a bit hooky, but interesting.
Kitt Peak is fascinating during the day and they have a great night program as well.
If you like great sandwiches try Beyond Bread. Lots of good Mexican restaurants as well.
Sabino Canyon is worth a visit, as is Saguaro National Park
Lots of other stuff linked in our blog.
Also the Tucson Attractions Passport is worth the investment if you are around for a while.
