RE: 5th Wheel Floorplans

Depending on how much 5th wheel you want Drv, Elite/Mobile Suites has some great floor plans and you can get some custom changes if you order. Drv in 2012 has a walk-in type closet in the new floor plans. Drv also came out with a Toy Hauler and a new 5th wheel called Tradition, the Tradition can be towed with a 3/4 ton HD truck.. But the Drv Elite/Mobile Suites aren't light weights and you will need a 1 ton on most of the Suites. However your Suites will be riding on a 15" frame, with the some of the best R factors on the market due to the 3 1/4" walks. We have 3 different floor plans to get the floor plan we wanted. Drv made every custom change we ask for.. Happy Trails....

RE: Chevrolet offers/incentives

I think maybe there is some confusion or maybe I'm wrong. The balance on the GM card is not what GM will give you credit for. We never roll a credit balance. We pay in full each month. To determine what you will receive off after the deal is made all you have to do is call GM and they will tell you as of that day you can receive off and there total is done at the end of the month. As I said the most we have ever been able to take off was $2,000 and we had $1,000 and GM matched that for a total of $2,000. GM has a limit they will let you take off and its based on a percentage of your total charges... Hope GM has changed the amount you can receive. Good Luck... Happy Trails... P.S. As for dealerships trading it depends on what the dealer wants in trade. I have in the past actually located the Truck I wanted and contacted my dealer and gave them the location and my dealer went and picked up the Truck.. As a rule its a 500 mile radius.

RE: Air ride for a 1 ton?

I had Link Air ride on my Chevy 4500 the same similar system that can be put on the 3500HD. My Link air ride on the 4500 was automatic adjusting and auto leveling. Don't know if the 3500HD system is the same.. The good ride came from the air ride seats.. The air ride will take a lot of the harsh shock from the ruff roads but its want make the ride better. It will make the 5th wheel absorb less shock. Happy Trails...

RE: Once again showing my ignorance - where do I find a scale?

Weight scales can are at: 1. Major Truck Stops. 2. Most Co-ops. 3. Most large grain companies. 4. Most major moving companies. 5. Most rock quarries. Good Luck... Happy Trails....

RE: Towing and Boston RV Show

I would take that salesperson comment with a grain of salt. I really wouldn't expect a sale person to say it will require a 1 ton Dually. Its really the pin weigh on a 3/4 ton Truck that will normally be the issue. However you want know you pin weight until your load fro RVing both the Truck and 5th wheel. In my opinion dry weights mean nothing, unless your 5th wheel has been weight at all corners before the system is charged with water and fluids.. Very few RV builders will do this.. Happy Trails...

RE: Chevrolet offers/incentives

I have used the GM card about 10 times and its the percentage of charges at the time of purchase. Work your best deal and then the dealer will give the Credit off the deal worked. The most we ever received was $2,000 dollars GM at the time double what ever amount you had on the card.. This past Oct. we took delivery of our 2012 GM 3500HD received $900.00 dollars off our GM card. We charged everything from June until Oct and had accrued the $900.00 off the final price from the dealership. The best way to buy a new Trucks is have the cash. Get a line of Credit if you don't have the Cash. Go to at least 3 different dealerships and get their best price. The key is to be able to walk away, after talking to the sales person and at the point he/she decides he can't close the sale you will then get to meet the sales manager which is the closer.... Good Luck and be able to walk away..... Happy Trails..... P.S. Each zip or zone can be a different price... Most dealerships don't like to deal on the phone... It very hard to sell a new vehicle on the phone. Dealearships want you on site.. Unless you bought from the same dealer before....... The last nine vehicles we bought was on the phone. No dealership will ever sell you a new Truck at a loss. And every Truck I have bought, someone else will tell me their's was cheaper... Thats when you pull the final order sheet...

RE: RV's for Less, Knoxville TN ?

I would get away from that deal, they will sock it to you. Just call Karen and Butch and see what their numbers look like... I personally think Butch and Karen are great people. They were the sponsor's of our International Suites Rally in Pigeon Forge, Tn last June. RV'sforLess are at the top of our list if we order another Mobile Suites...... Happy Trails....

RE: Finest Fiver made?

Just in the last few year manufactor have begun to say their brand is for full time use. They had no choice, they had to make the change for sales. But it really mean nothing. Most all only have a 1 year warranty and limited warranty on other components. I guest the question would be how many full timers have been denied warrantee service... I would guess the number would be low. I believe its the quality of the build materials. We have been in our 5er for over two years only issue was the manual Surflo fan in the bathroom. The factory replaced it with a fully automatic Fantastic Fan.. However there is a difference in 5th wheels. We are very pleased with the Suites. Is it the best, for my use it is the best. Others have different opinions.. Be happy and if your not make a change... Happy Trails..

RE: Lippert 6 point leveling system

I have owned 2 Mobile Suites both having the Lippert 6 Hydraulic jack system. The Drv Suites were the first to have the Lippert Hydraulic 6 jack system. Now most all 5th wheels can have the system installed.. It has been tested for sure. The Drv Suites are very heavy, and my system which is on all the Elite/Mobile Suites will lift the units suspension off the ground for removing tires and service to the Axels and brake system. Your doing the correct thing by calling Lippert.... Makes set up a take down so simple and fast. I highly recommend the system. You will never go back to a electric jack system. Happy Trails....

RE: Finest Fiver made?

What is the best RV, the best RV will be the one that fits your needs and wants. There are many RV manufactor building RV's everyday. And some are doing very well.... Then its what will fit your budget, how big is your budget. I will tell you the number one selling 5th wheel for a decade is the Montana by Keystone. I have in fact owned two Keystone 5th wheel Everest 343L and the Cambridge 358 very few issues at all, great factory support. I have also owned two Drv Suites, both being Mobile Suites and if I buy another it will be a Mobile Suites. The Suites fits my needs and was in my budget.. You will need a 1 ton Truck for the Mobile Suites... Thats based on my opinion and having the hands on experience of towing with the GM 2500HD, GM 3500HD's, Chevy 4500 and the Freightliner. Drv is one of the few who will make changes and do some custom work.... The New Horizon's were mention and I think are a very good 5th wheel, but when the price for a custom build 5er and the price is approaching $200,000 dollars if that fits you budget then it would be you choice. But then using their weights (New Horizon) you will need a HDT to properly handle the Weight ratings... And how many New Horzions do you see on the road.... I believe you will need to do lots of reseach and talk to many who have own different RV's most will say their 5th wheel is great. And I agree to a point, its the same in buying a Truck to handle your choice, I will tell you up front I only buy GM 1 ton DRWs and below. GM Trucks fits my needs and has a proven combo in the Duramax/Allison.. But be prepared to have some frustrating moments, in any RV you will buy... None are perfect.. Its just a choice.. But I will tell you I'm no expert except for trail and error and I have spent a ton of money. I highly suggest you go to the Factories and look behind the walls and if they want let you, that would be a red flag, some will say Insurance prohibits you there?? Good Luck with your choice, and if your happy thats all that matters... Happy Trails...

RE: 2012 or 2006

From someone who has owned buy the comparison from 2006 to 2012, there is no question in difference its night and day. As for economic, thats debatable, each person is different. If your happy stay happy. As for buying a HDT/MDT thats also debatable, I have owned both a MDT (Freigthliner) and several 1 ton GM Trucks.. Again thats a personal choice. That depends on your use. My needs changed so I made the change. Did you make the right choice, are you happy??? Trucks will continue to go up, until the demand is less. I always pay more than anyone else, as soon as what I paid is mentioned, there is alway someone who paid less. But if your happy who cares.. I only buy GM 1 tons for what my needs are, and it has a 36 gallon tank. But we travel West and I do like the extra in-bed fuel tank and I prefer the Hauler Bed vs pick up bed. My Truck is for towing I haul nothing in the bed except the in-bed tank and the Trailer Saver. So this is what fits my needs .. Happy Trails.... http://i1108.photobucket.com/albums/h404/lindyn46/DSCF1243.jpg width=640

RE: End of fulltimming

We all will open the door to a new adventure which will be moving back into a stick house. Its were most of us came from, my transition will not be a issue... I'm sure you will adjust again and return to the new adventure.. Just remember you have had a adventure that most Americans will never enjoy and many would have loved doing what you have done... My adventure has taken me to places that many only dream about. Life is Good.. Happy Trails....

RE: Over length towing

I double tow, which is Freightliner, Mobile Suites, and the Chevy HHR. I was 75' long and did for 2 years. I was stopped 1 time in going to Colorado and that was in Kansas.. The LEO was very impressive and professional. I actually believe he didn't ever want to issue me the ticket, which was a warning. I was also allow to continue on without unhooking had no issues or problems. However on the return trip from Cody, Wyoming I didn't go thru Kansas, went back thru Texas. I had a professional set up with brakes in the toad. My only issue was I was concerned about others, as many know in todays world there are many that would love to file a law suit. There are many who always wants someone else's money. And not to work for it.... I believe if you have the ability and the equipment and have a professional set double towing is completely safe. I also believe its does in fact conserve energy, we no longer double tow but now take the Tahoe. DW either drives it or I have some drive it to destination. We are in Florida for the winter and in Mar. I will fly my brother down and he will drive the Tahoe home.... There is so much confusion and many don't know the laws pertaining to double towing. I did know I was over length and the cost to convert to hauling the Car (Smart Car) on the deck of the Freightliner I decided it wasn't worth the cost... Even thought my equipment was built in such a way my 5th wheel handled the Chevy HHR with no issue. Not all 5th wheels are built to handle a toad..... And the Freightliner was designed for towing.. Its a choice and if you can stay under 65' in most States you will be fine.. The double towing Laws are out dated, my opinion, and most LEO's don't know the Law. Good Luck..... Happy Trails....
