RE: Winter-ing the RGV?

If you come to the RGV, you will find the winter very comfortable. We kid our friends up north and tell them that winter here is a week and a half long, and that means temps in the 60's. We have spent the last 12 winters in Alamo, Texas (just east of McAllen) at Alamo Rec Veh PArk. It is a mid-priced park with a ton of activities and the convenience of being in the middle of the Valley. I you want more info, please send me an email.

RE: Washer/Dryer

WE bought our Fifth Wheel with an apartment size washer on the floor in a compartment in the bathroom and an electric dryer on a shelf above it. It has been wonderful. Laundry is a non-issue for us. When the hampers start to fill, we fill the washer and go off and do our things. When we return, the clothes go in the dryer and when it buzzes, we fold and hang the lot. It has been the most comfortable and convenient way to handle laundry since we hit the road. If you want to ask more questions, send an email to our address.

RE: Getting ready to go full time!!! Where to winter?

WE fell in love with the Rio GRande Valley 12 years ago and will eventally live here when we stop fulltiming. The cost of living, temperature and warmth of the local people make this the place to be. We stay at Alamo Rec Veh (just east of McAllen) and would not trade places with any other park in the valley. It is mid-priced and has more acdtivities that one can do. And it is in the middle of the RGV, which means you have the Gulf Coast to the Upper Valley for your entertainment and pleasure. Please feel free to email me if you want more information.

RE: "First Year Snowbird"

Alamo Rec Veh Park in Alamo,TX (just east of McAllen) has all of the criteria you listed except internet at the post, although I think telephone lines can be run to all of the sites in the park. We do have WiFi which seems quite reliable. We afre mid-valley (Rio grande Valley) which gives you access to more shopping than you can stand, safe Mexico crossing within 15 miles, and the Gulf of Mexico an hour away. Park is in the mid-price range, paved streets and driveways, 8 X 20 concrete patios, and more. Give them a look-see on the internet. We've come here for 12 years. RE: Newmar Fifth Wheels

We have a 2002 Kountry Star 34RLCK that we spec'd when we purchased it. As with all fulltimers, our home had to be a good fit for us. We still like it and will probably keep it for a few more years until we decide to go back to a house. At a recent RV show in the Rio Grande Valley, we were unable to find anything that we liked any better that the one we have. THank you Newmar for this wonderful rig.

RE: Washer n Dryer usage

WE ordered out trailer with washer and dryer installed. It was one of the conditions my wife insisted on when we decided to go fulltiming. It was one of our best decisions. Laundry has become a non-issue in our lives as we can start a load in the washer when we leave to do our daily excursions. When we return, we put it in the dryer and by bedtime we have laundry done. Newmar uses apartment size units with the dryer mounted on a shelf above the washer. From what I can gather from others who write about their washer/dryer units that are purchased from RV dealers, these are far superior. We will not be without the convenience. One additional thing, in our travels we have only found three campgrounds in the last 10 years that would not permit our use of them in their facility.

RE: Snowbird in TX

We are in year 12 in the RGV, go to Progeso Mexico regularly and do not feel unsafe at all. To those who say we are in denial, let them walk in our shoes instead of judging a wonderful area. When we are through full-timing, we will buy a house here and settle down.

RE: How Many Rigs since Full Timing???

WE still have the one that we bought 9 years ago when we decided to full-time. We frequently visit RV shows and have not found we like any better than the one we have.
