RE: New trailer pricing

You think that depreciation of 33% in 5 or 6 years of ownership is bad?
That's great compared to the tow vehicle!

RE: Converter Problem

One check you can do is to disconnect the leads from the battery and plug in the shore power. The convertor's output to the battery should be 13.5 to 14V DC. If the converter checks out, you may have a short to ground somewhere in the camper on the 12V side.

Air bags are adjustable to the load...that's their advantage.

RE: Installing a fifth wheel hitch

I've installed the same hitch in two, different trucks. If you're at all handy, it isn't a difficult job. Read the manufacturer's instructions carefully and measure everthing twice before drilling holes.
Have at it!

RE: EcoBoost towing gas mileage?

My suggestion is not to worry too much about mileage while towing...all tow vehicles aren't great. The way to look at it is the fuel mileage while not towing. If you're like most where your tow vehicle is also your daily driver, towing mileage is less than 10% of total mileage per year.

RE: Dealing with RVDirect and importing to Canada

BTW...I've asked some of the manufacturer's reps that are on our Forest River Owners Forum about the CSA option. I've said that the $400 gets you nothing that you didn't already have. I believe that the campers are built to the most stringent spec (UL or CSA). I believe the a camper built for Canada is identical to the camper built for the US. None of the manufacturer's rep would comment. We brought two campers into Canada waiving the CSA option and have had no issues.

RE: Dealing with RVDirect and importing to Canada

We ordered our Rockwood through RV Direct and pcked it up in Elkhart. Everything was to our satisfaction. This was the second RV that we purchased in the US and brught into Canada. RV Direct does it all the tme and know what's required. Local pricing has gotten better than it was..don't know what the savings would be now.

RE: Using Helium in a fifth wheel.

I'm chuckling that their brochure picture shows a Keystone High Country towed by a F150. Their dry pin weights range from 1720 to 2080...out of the range even for a F150HD.
Seems like nothing more than Marketing hype.

RE: Durango and Heartland North Trail??

The camper will be 6600 + lbs with options, propane and battery. The max towing limit of 7150 lbs doesn't leave much for for much gear, food and clothing. You need something with more towing capacity or a smaller, lighter camper.

RE: Advice on purchasing a fifth-wheel

As mentioned, payload is the limiting factor for any truck, half or 3/4 ton when it comes to 5th wheel towing. The pin weight is typically 20% of the camper's weight, not 12%...12% is the recommended hitch weight for a TT.
With fuel, passengers, gear and sliding hitch in the truck, you'll have less than 1000 lb available capacity for the camper's pin weight.
If you stuck on the half ton, you'll find many more choices in a TT and with a hitch weight of 12%, more in the range that you 1500 can handle.

RE: OMG PLEASE HELP!!!

I'm no brake-changing expert, but it sounds like you didn't fully compress the caliper piston(s) before installing the new pads and that's why you can't re-install the caliper on the rotor.

RE: Forest River Wildcat 323QB

As far a towing, the loaded pin weight (est. 2200 - 2300 lbs) will probably put your truck over it's GVWR but well under the rear axle rating. You call whether you want to meet all towing specs on your truck.

RE: RV Wholesalers and Keystone Sprinter

We bought a Rockwood TT from them in 2007...seemed like an OK outfit to deal with. We priced our current camper with them in 2010 and they were the highest of the 4 quotes we got. Found them to very arrogant second time around.
I think you'll find that they're not the lowest cost dealer any more...worth you while to shop around.
Importing into Canada is a simple process.
Good luck

RE: 2003/2004 Ford F250 Superduty??

Pricing.
If it is clean as a whistle, price it at NADA wholesale less $5,000 to pay for problems.
If it has any issues, reduce price by $10,000 to $15,000 to pay for new engine.
Do you think given the asking price of a 2003/2004 F250 diesel, that this pricing reduction would ever be accepted?
I think you're really telling him not to buy.

RE: 2005 Ram 5.9l Cummins?

Its a unique situation that you're buying it from a friend...if you can't trust a friend, who can you trust. If he's selling it that much lower than blue book value, I guess he's a close friend.
I don't understand your hesitation. If you ask too many questions, he won't be a friend for long!

RE: How much power do I need?

If the only use is for AC is at the track, the second Honda is a very expensive option as you can buy a noisy 3000 watt genny for less than $300.
If you also plan to boondock at State Parks or Nat'l Forest campgrounds, the second Hond makes much more sense.

RE: What is safest TV towing attitude - raked or level?

I'd say that you adjust the W/D bars to a point where the truck's front height (as measured at the front wheel well) stays the same as when unhitched.

RE: Help with the numbers please.

With the numbers you posted you should be fine, but need to be mindful of the payload of the truck.
You'll need a W/D hitch now, not later. Even with air bags, you'll still be taking weight off the front axle of your truck when hitched up. They're not that expensive and can be found used. You'll need spring bars rated around 1000 lbs.
