RE: Connecting a external propane tank to my class c motorhome

I use the extended stay with a 30 lb. tank. Too expense to have it delievered where I'm at. I have been using one of these for the last 6 years on 2 different rigs. Takes less than 10 minutes too install.

We have decided not to make the move to own one. If there can be trouble with them, we will have it! We will stay status quo for now. Thanks for the replies.

Apollo halftime oven?

By doing search I see there has been a fair amount of trouble with Apollo. Mine is out of warranty & is acting up! It will shut down on convection oven & the service light will come on. It does startup OK & may or may not make it through the cycle. I had problems with it from the get go. If the rig was left plugged into shore power , the thing would turn on by itself. That turned out to be a pinched cable. I'm not sure what to do if it crashes. The top burners go with the halftime oven so replacing just the halftime oven is out. I'm not sure what would be a replaement & who to contact if it crashes. We still need it for 3 more months. Apollo is still being used but the cook top is not part of halftime. Thoughts?

RE: Select Comfort ?

With my rig, it is just about impossible to put it under the bed. Half of it sits above a rear compartment & the forward half has the fresh water tank , pump, a filter, fuse box & etc.. But it could go along side of this. I was thinking of sitting it on a night stand (if that what it's called), AC right there also. Not much room to work with in this rig but wife wants a better bed!

RE: Getting Tired of This Leaking Slide

Having reread your post it sounds similar to a problem I had on a 2004 Winnebago 37B. It too had a leak on the front corner of a bedroom slide. This was 2 years ago here in AZ. The main cause of the leak was a frayed awning over the slide out allowing water to pool on top of the slideout. Water would build up on top of the slide out & find it's way under the wiper seal. I first tried a bead of caulk behind the top wiper seal but it still leaked. I had to go out in the rain to find out how the water was finding it's way in . It was getting behind the top wiper seal ,running over to the side wiper seal, running down until it found a ridge to follow into the front corner. As a temporary fix I taped the awninig & put some clauk on the ridge. We did have another rain & I had no water on top of the slide out & no leaks. I replaced all of the slide out awnings that spring & sold the rig. I don't know if the new owner has had any problems. Is there water standing on top of your slideout during the rains? Why wait for a rain? Use a water hose.

RE: Water heater question?

Have you burped it?
Yes
Where is the termostat for electric located. Does it only measure on the outside of the tank. Or is in the water?
This water heater has only been in used since June, not years of use. But may need a flushing.

Water heater question?

I have a Suburban 6 gallon water heater/ gas & electric.
Just lately when it is on electric it makes hissing gurling sounds? Like the heating element is over heating. Shut the switch off , sound goes away. Turn the switch on sound comes back after a few seconds. The water temp is up because it is on gas also. I have been running it for the last month on gas & electric. Never heard a sound out of electric element before. Thermostat trouble? Heating element? No water leak! This on electric only! Thanks

RE: Getting Tired of This Leaking Slide

I have had a couple of leaks on my Forest River Lexington. Both were from a very poor job of clauking. One was on the front side of the driver's side slide out. It first appeared to be coming from the slide out but it turned out to be the clauking! Another leak was around the stove vent. At this point I have reclauked half of rig! The problem with dealers is that they are no better than the tech that works on your rig. The factories push the rigs out of door & expect the customer to find the problems. Hard to find a dealer with a good tech to fix all problems! We customers pay the price!

RE: purchasing a bt cruiser

The main draw back of BT is lack of storage inside & out. The wife I looked at a couple of them . The first one was older (2003?) with low miles. But it had never been maintained. You could see water damage on the walls. Just no storage space! The second one was newer but still had the storage problem.

RE: i sure could use your help

I don't want to start a manufacture bashing flame up. I bought a 2004 37B Winnebago new in 2004. I had it back to the manufacture 4 times under warranty. I still was fixing things when I sold it last year. Most of problems were vendor products. But there were some things that were more poor manufacturing & poor quality control. I'm still a Winnebago man! Their class B+ model's didn't have enough outside storage & there wasn't a used or new model available I wanted. I got a good deal on the Lexington knowing it wasn't quite the rig I wanted. But all in all I am happy with it. At first I thought it was put together with defective parts & workers high on drugs! Besides the Lexington, there are makes that are worse. I would rate the Lexington in mid class, maybe a little below.
But regardless who the manufacture is, a very close inspection is a must! They just push these things out the door & let the dealers or customers fix the problems!
But you're are person who must make the decision on what suits you.

RE: first camper

Here's how this weight thing works. Start off with a Gross Combined Weight Rating of 20000 for a Ford E450. Subtract the Gross Vehicle Weight Rating (coach & all the cargo) 14500 you get 5500 lbs you can tow. From the Gross Vehicle Weight Rating you subtract Unloaded Vehicle Weight (depends on the model) that is the weight you can haul which includes people. You're just not going to find the right figures with a gas because all the weight carrying & towing has been used up by the RV.

RE: first camper

I don't think you will find a class C that will have that heavy of a towing rate. The best a E450 Ford since about 2002 (?) can do is 6000 pounds. That includes a super C built on Chev chassis with the 8.1 . Maybe a super c built on a diesel truck chassis but the price goes up!!

RE: i sure could use your help

I have a 2009 Lexington 295 GTS , the main difference is 3 slides (283) 2 slides (295) . Forest River like all manufactures cheats. There isn't any quality control to speak of. But I like mine even if I have had some issues with it. The key is your dealer. How good are the people in the service department because they will be doing the work on any issues. My dealers service department was terrible!! Check all clauking! Around the compartments underneath. The roof! Don't leave it up to the dealer. You may have already been down this road with a dealer. I'm not impressed at all in the sound system Forest River uses. Concertone. If you think you can live in a B+, it isn't a bad choice. I went from a Winnebago 37B Adventurer to the Lexington. We are thinking about spending over 5 months in it this winter. Might be quite an experience!
Here is a link to Forest River's forums http://www.forestriverforums.com/forums/
There is a Lexington forum.

RE: first camper

As far as what to look for. Check that everything on the camper side works. If the roof was replaced, check for water damage. The motor & transmission should be checked. Low miles is sometimes not a good thing. It depends on where it spent most of it time. In a garage would be ideal. Tires are a big thing. No cracks anywhere!
As far as towing the jeep. The engine & transmission should handle it but check the weight capacity of the rig. The receiver hitch & the tow bar you use have to be rated for the 5000 pounds.

RE: Has anyone mounted a BAL QTG on the front of a E450?

This may not address YOUR questions - But re-telling the tale will make ME feel better:
Our coach came equipped with what looks to be the same stabilizer accessory from BAL. It "was" mounted behind the front axle - behind the driver & passenger doors. The vehicle is already on the heavy side & I never used the thing during 6+ years of ownership – Never needed it!
A few month ago the weld points finally failed and the complete stabilizer fell off – probably due to the numerous times it has scraped the pavement while entering or exiting "humped" driveways. No damage occurred since at the time, I was creeping slow enough for it to act as a chock block against the duallies in back. While holding up traffic for a time, I was able to maneuver that XXX lbs of hardware into the storage bay. Later, I needed help moving it into a corner of our shed & underneath a tarp. I seriously doubt that it will EVER be remounted!
Had that accessory been attached forward the front axle somehow, as shown on the link, then perhaps the ground clearance issue would not have been such a stumbling block (pun intended).
But facing & looking at our rig head on – HOW UGLY would that be? And everybody in this family knows that our Bigfoot is just too pretty for THAT! There...I'm feeling much better. How's life with everybody else?
That really does sound like wrong & bad installation! I have molded running boards so that kind of a mount is not even thinkable for me. I don't like the idea of welding anyway. The one I have in the rear can be unbolted in minutes. In fact, whenever I sell the rig I would take it off . Weight around 85 pounds.
Yes, these are ugly! I'm trying to find someone who has it mounted to find just how ugly it is. To drop the jacks they have to be mounted out farther. But for stabilizing, they are the best. Any other type of jacks are mainly for leveling. As far as ground clearance, my generator is begging for trouble. Its mounted in the front, right behind the cab. 7" of clearance from the exhaust to the ground. Hardware on that exhaust hang even lower. This would have inches more of clearance.

I have a different model on the back but they do cut down clearance. But are very good at stabilizing because the jacks are out as far you can get. No longer manufactured!

Has anyone mounted a BAL QTG on the front of a E450?

Has anyone mounted a BAL QTG Manufacturer's Number: 26151C on the front of a Ford E450? How much ground clearance after installing. Does it effect gas milage & air flow? How hard to install?

RE: Replacement for Dash Radio/CD Player

Hey, you got more years out of the Magnadyne then most people did. After 2 bad ones in a 2004 Adventurer, I replaced it with a Jensen . I bought a new 2009 Lexington & had 2 bad ones, it was finally repaced with their newest model. The problem now is the radio you want comes in a Din 2.0 size. Your's is a Din 1.5 . So the only choice out there in a Din 1.5 is Magnadyne. All the rest can be made to work but now much work?? I do believe there is some reconditioned ones on ebay for around $60.
