RE: Firestone Airbg has a leak somewhere.

I had a leak when I 1st installed my air bags and I caused it. On the rt side bag that is closed the exhausts pipe a breaded cover came with the kit and the instructions said to put it on the air line that comes close to the pipe and I did. What I did not notice that when I pushed the air line into the air bag fitting the sleeve slide over the air line and I did not get the line all of the way into the fitting. It would leak down over a couple of days and using soapy water did not show any bubbles. Live and learn

RE: 4 season fifth wheel

Look at Excel by Peterson Ind, the current ones are guarantee to 10 below if the trailer has duel pane Windows and and operational furnace, they are heavy but well built.

RE: Firestone air compressor.. Where did you mount?

I mounted mine under the spare tire, took some time to get position so the tire would go up in place but the pump is some what protected fro the elements.

RE: Backing Up to Engage Hitch

My truck has a small head rest for the center seat in the back seat. I removed the headrest and put strip of tape on the pin box and when the tape is in between the plastic knobs on top of the back seat looking in the rear view mirror I am line up .I also have a piece aluminum wire that I put on the brake away cable and that is adjusted so the wire just touches the ground the pin is set at correct height for hook up. With 2 tricks hook up is very easy.
I can not see the hitch from the driver seat.

RE: RAM IBC Replacment

I did long tow 2 days ago from home to the RG Valley, the P3 is just Great!! Before I had
Red brake dust on my front wheels and after the 550 mile trip I have none and the braking is very smooth and effective, the trailer brakes do work.I am going to try to install the P3 in the place of the IBC, I have the plastic flange that goes around the IBC and going to see If I can mount the P3 in the hole for IBC and cut the flange to fit. Will update latter.

RE: RAM IBC Replacment

Now for the rest of the story!! I took the trailer for test ride today and found a brake that was not working. The P3 instructions tells you warm the brake before the final gain adjustment, warmed the brakes found one of the drums was still cold. Took the wires a part at the wheel and tested the magnet for Resistance and the magnet is open, replaced the magnet and now I have brakes on all 4 wheels.
The replacing the Ram IBC with a P3 is a great idea, good brakes during a slow stop or panic.
All is well for Now

RE: RAM IBC Replacment

B O Plenty and Krusher
I have installed the P3 where Krusher suggested the left attach screw for lower panel below the steering wheel and wired up the power to the ICB and all is well I like the location as it is out of the way getting in and of the truck and visible and easy to reach. The 3021-P Harness plugged right in. I am going to do test pull next week as this week is rather busy.
Thanks Guys great advice!!

RE: RAM IBC Replacment

I don't trust the IBC, have had several warning msg that the trailer is disconnected and when the msg is displayed I do not have any trailer brakes, the msg comes and goes with out any warning . I have driven over some very rough roads and no msg, over nice and smooth and get the msg. Dodge has checked the truck and they say it is OK. On the Ram forum there are several people that are having similar problems and Dodge is not doing any thing to help. The 2012 has some changes to the IBC,don't know if this helped but the 2011 can not update with the 2012 change, my truck is 2011 3500

RAM IBC Replacment

I am going to replace my IBC with a Tekonsha P3 Electric Brake Control and would like some info on where to install and how others have done this. I have had problems and do not trust the IBC any longer and appears that Chrysler is not going to fix the problem, maybe the 2012 have been fixed but the guys with a 10 or 11 are not going get any help. This is sorry !! But I like the truck less the IBC.

RE: Outlet for sleep number bed

I have an outlet on the wall close to head of the bead and I simply used a flat extension cord plug, drill a hole in the side of the frame under the bed, put the pump under the bed routed the air hoses to the head of the bed, made holder to keep the pump from rolling around. I have had this bed in 3 trailers and all have work well. I left enough of the extension cord on the out side of the bed so the room could move in and out.

Truck and Trailer Tire Pressure Monitor

I have been thing about buying and after market Tire press monitor system that has temp and pressure readings and low or high warnings also. A fellow traveler showed me his Truck System Technologies and was very happy with how it worked, he had had an over temp warning. Seam to me the temp is maybe more important than pressure, low pressure and high temp go hand and in hand.
What system do others have and the good and bad. Trailer Life had an article a month ago but did not make a recommendation.
I had a blow out in Aug and temp was warm but not hot. Would like to think maybe if I had monitor system the blow out could of been avoided
Do these system rally Work??

RE: Anyone using the built in Dodge Brake controller?

I have have IBC and it works OK with a 14500 lb trailer and have it set on 9 gain but I have had the trailer is disconnected warning several times, thought it was the cable extension with a plug in the bed that I has installed to be the problem, started used the bumper connection for about 10 tows and yesterday out of the blue I had the disconnected warning again 2 times, light went out and worked OK the rest of the day. I cleaned the both the rec and the cord plugs with contact cleaner and today no problems, I think the connection is very sensitive to contamination, Have one more day on this trip, hope all goes well.

RE: Lubricate 5th wheel hitch

I use a lub plate and spray Lithium grease on the king pin and jaws on the hitch. I leave the old grease on both until we are getting ready to hook up, I then wipe the old grease with a paper towel and reapply the spray grease. This keeps the pin lubed and I do not have any rust on either the pin or hitch jaws and is easy to do and not messy.

RE: DSL vs Mifi/Air Card

I have a Verizon 3 G air card that I use at home and while traveling. I have Wilson Truckers antenna on the trailer and it works very well in rural areas and have small antenna that I use at home. I am eligible for a upgrade for the air card and have been thinking upgrading to a 4 G version but would like to have the external antenna port on the 4 G Card.
Is a there a 4 G Verizon card that has an antenna port?? Or does a 4 g card need and antenna??

RE: Puzzled over blowout

I had a blow out on a GY 614 that had 30,000 mile and was 3 1/2 years old from mfg. It was the rear on the door side so all of the damages or pot holes or curbs should damage the front tire 1st. I did have a over heating newerlub brake hub on that tire that may of damaged the tire. I have replaced all of the tires since then.I was lucky and very little damage to the trailer
Maybe bow outs are something that just happen.

Never Lube Brake Hub

I had a Never Lube Drum Brake Hub that was over heating, 1st noticed when we stopped for a break and I almost burnt my hand on the hub. Next stop I shot it with my IR temp Gun and was at 194 degrees, we had about 700 miles to home to make sure every thing was OK I stopped an RV dealer and had him pull the wheel and hub, looked OK so we pressed on and kept checking the hub and when we got home it was up to 240. Temp on the tire bead was about 190 and the side wall for the tire was 145, wonder if f the tire is hurt??
Dexter is sending me a new hub and bearing assy under warranty. The trailer is 3 years old and has about 30,000 mikes,
Dexter said that the high in temp for the hub should be 160 to 180 and the grease should not melt out until 450
