RE: Whats Your Real Weights? Truck and Trailer. The Real Deal

Here is my question, How are you determining your pin weight?
My reading was axel 1 4520 axel2 5940 axel 3 10520 gross 20980
05 ram 2500 drw 3.73 auto gcwr 21,000
09 keystone cougar 316qbs
You have to drive off the scale, go to somewhere on the lot and unhook. Then go back across the scale and ask for a re-weigh, doesn't cost anything on a CAT scale. Then compare the numbers on the truck axles. The differences are the pin weight. If the front axle drops 500 lbs and the rear 2000 then the pin weight is 2500. The trailer weight won't change if it's level on the truck. It don't know if the pin box is on the truck or it's on the front legs.
Usually, there is a $1.00 reweigh fee at CAT Scale at the same location of the original weigh. For the best "how to weigh" information, consider visiting Fifth Wheel St..

RE: Tire Pressure

Completely agree with the above. Only if you're able to weigh each trailer wheel or as a minimum, each axle, would you consider inflating less than the maximum allowed tire inflation pressure or what is written on the trailer's certification label. You don't want to experience the results of under inflation pressure.

RE: Looking at 2009 Dodge 3500. Opinions?

I own the 2008 model with 4 wheel drive and I'm very pleased with it. I tow a very heavy load without any problems. Depending on driving terrain and weather conditions, I get 8 to 12 MPG. Be sure to check the certification label weights to ensure it will meet your towing needs. Consider reading the article, "Before You Buy", listed in my signature below.

RE: New RV Checklist Android App

I am the developer of the RV Checklist application. I checked with the forum moderator (pulsar) before posting. He said as long as it did not advertise and it was free it was OK to post. I just wanted to give back to the RV community while not breaking any forum rules.
What do you mean when you say "as long as it did not advertise."

RE: Max truck gvwr

Yes, it is a myth. Folks around here like to quote tests showing that 50% of us are overloaded. If that's true, half the accidents we have would not be covered by our insurance. Just doesn't make sense.
Actually, the RV Safety & Education Foundation (RVSEF) data indicates that 56% of RVs exceed one or more (weight) safety ratings. They are in no position to lie about that data. RVSEF Reference
And all those complaints about bad tires known as the China bomb tires, I'm convinced that 99% of the failures had nothing to do with bad manufacturing and it has everything to do with overloading and or under inflation.
I think you missed my point. I was not doubting the statistic of overloading. I was saying that insurance is covering accidents for those 56% that are overloaded, and that it is a myth that you would not be covered.
Oh, okay, got it. Sorry about that.

I've had both ST and LT tires fail that originated from China - and I take your comment a little personal given I run 2,000 pounds under weight and continuously monitor pressure.
So give us some facts. What caused the tires to fail? The country where they were manufactured is not a cause its a personal bias. I have had Chinese and American made ST tires fail. Sounds like your credibility is certainly questionable.
I understand what you’re saying and I used to think like you too. I discovered a blog by Roger Marble. Roger has over 40 years experience in the tire industry. We have corresponded a few times and I think he’s very credible. Here's a link to Roger’s blog RV Tire Safety. He writes about the so called China bombs. BTY, don’t take it personal. I just stated what I have come to believe. Sure there will be a ton of RVers that will disagree with me and that’s okay.

RE: Max truck gvwr

If you are over GVWR sticker and something bad happens, really bad, and during the accident investigation they discover that, you will have to take out a second mortgage to pay all of the fines and court costs........
I asked my State Farm agent and he asked the regional adjuster about this "myth" (as I call it) and the adjuster responded with a laugh. Then he said "there is know way we will scoop up the mess and weigh it."
I've read a lots comments about this scare tactic and the claims but no one has yet provided any proof.
Thats because he saw your dually :B

RE: What kind of boat could I fit inside my toyhauler?

One thing I didn't see mentioned here is weight ratings. What is the maximum allowed in your toy hauler? I think you'd want avoid overloading your trailer and axles.

RE: Rear Axle Weight Rating & Scale Weight Question

Sure, you can modify the rear end of your light truck all you want and make it one bad ass truck. But all that work and expense will not change the certification ratings. Just don't get caught.
