RE: Traveling w/ a pet, check this out

.... Breed bans are a knee jerk reaction by politicians and a feel good approach. Most experts in the field favor an aggressive dog/animal policy in favor of a breed ban. This approach allows more flexibility to animal control officers and shifts the responsibility to the owners of any dog regardless of breed.....Doug, your opinion in this matter just makes way to much sense to ever become reality. :S

RE: Proposed USDA rule change internet puppy sales

Although there may be instances where the internet is the only choice due to rarity or distance, I would propose that the best way to choose a puppy is to let them choose you. If one cannot do that, then I guess C'est la vie. Back in 1994, Gen. Missy "chose" us at a animal sanctuary. While other dogs were busy going bezerko in our presence, she just looked us in the eyes, walked on over, and the connection was made. In 2004, Gen. Gretchen "chose" us, emerging from a pack of wild little GSD puppies on our breeders living room floor to claim us as her own.

RE: Proposed USDA rule change internet puppy sales

It is certainly way overdue for such a change to the law. The thing that strikes me as rather odd is the fact that, apparently, there are people that would purchase a puppy "sight unseen" over the internet in the first place. :h

RE: Old Fella Rally in Ohio June 13-16th 2012

Some further tweaking has been done to our rally schedule. A family event has been rescheduled a week later than it was, THEREFORE our schedule for the rally is now: - Arrive Wednesday afternoon, June 13th - Depart Sunday morning, June 17th Thank goodness, because now I do not have to drive straight home in one day, as I was going to have to do previously. Anymore, 550 miles is just a bit more than I want to drive in one day. :p

RE: Old Fella Rally in Ohio June 13-16th 2012

Another question is, have Dusty & Don (Dustytuu) made reservations??? :? I know she said quite awhile ago to "count them in", but she has not said anything in this topic for a long time.

RE: Old Fella Rally in Ohio June 13-16th 2012

NEWS FLASH ! ! ! :B With some very creative schedule juggling, we have managed to come up with a plan to attend the rally. :C We are going to be arriving on Sunday afternoon, June 10th, and will be leaving at about 4:00am on Friday, June 15th. I'm not much for driving/towing 550 miles in one day, but we gotta be back by Friday night. :p I will be calling the campground tomorrow, unless some other crazy thing happens . . . . :p

RE: Old Fella Rally in Ohio June 13-16th 2012

Sigh. :( Bad news for our attending the rally. It has nothing to do with helping anyone move, but without going into great detail, there is a family event which we really have to attend on June 16th. We did not even find out about it until today. Garland and I are both very disappointed that there is this scheduling conflict, and hope there is another Old Fella rally in the future.

....Spc. Dash climbed into bed with me to make sure I was safe. I think that deserves a promotion...Yes, I think you are quite right. A promotion is LONG overdue! The Cloudbusters were a fine unit! It's a straight shot down I-70, but watch out around Effingham :B. Went through there this last weekend :E Hope to see you guys there. BTW, did you get any of the baseball sized hail??? We were in the KOA in Eureka and had just taken my mom back to Kirkwood when the stuff hit, just got rain but lots of it. DougThe neighborhood we live in now seems to repel most of the bad weather. :C We got some wind, lightening, thunder and about 1/2" of rain. No hail at all. Of course, the severe weather sirens was blaring away for awhile, as was our little NOAA weather radio. :E Gen. Gretchen was right by our sides during all the thunder, lighting and wind. I think she just wanted to comfort us, as she could sense we were concerned.:W

RE: Old Fella Rally in Ohio June 13-16th 2012

I am pretty sure we are going to be coming, but there is a small chance that I have to help a nephew of mine move during that time period. It was all very "iffy" when Garland talked to his mother about it a few weeks ago. I should find out what the deal is in a day or two.

RE: Michigan State Parks fees

Having just this morning made a reservation for three nights camping at Ft. Wilkins this coming August, I was rather "surprised" to find this afternoon, after reading the fine print on my emailed receipt, that I will have to pay an additional $8.00 per day for my tow vehicle. Lets see now, For $77.00, I have an electric only site (no water or sewer) for three days. Tack on $8.00 per day "passport" fee for three days, and the total comes to $101.00, or $33.67 per day for an ELECTRIC ONLY SITE! I don't begrudge paying an entrance fee to Michigan state parks, but at least be real about it! You can get a seven day pass at major national parks for $25.00, for crying out loud. IMHO, Michigan parks should offer a seven day pass in addition to their "daily" and "annual".

Do you believe in miracles?

I discovered that a "miracle" I've heard of for quite some time actually is true!!!:C We got back from a three week trip down to the gulf coast (Pensacola) a few days ago. The front of our Spree was plastered with bugs and bug stains. I washed it. The really gross, outrageous bug bodies were removed, but left behind a mottled mess of bug stains. I tried Turtle Wax Bug & Tar remover, to little effect. I tried "Goof-Off", to little effect. Hmmmmmmmmmmmm . . . . . :h As a last resort, I thought I'd try that old wive's tale that some people swaer by . . . . Bounce dryer sheets. Why the heck not, I had nothing to lose. :h BINGO BANGO BOOMO . . . . . IT FLAT WORKS!!!!!!!!! I got the area wet first, then gently rubbed and buffed with a wet Bounce sheet. The stains were all removed, or at least greatly reduced! After the rubbing and buffing, I wiped and hosed off the Bounce residue, and used a chamois to dry. I'm tellin' ya, you gotta try it if you haven't already! :B

RE: What do you use to brush your dog.

Like many others, I am a big fan of the Furminator. As a matter of fact, Gretchen and I had a 15 minute session with it last night! End result, a completely full Wal-mart bag of top and bottom coat fur. :C As others have mentioned, you must be very careful using it, as the teeth are fairly sharp. So sharp, in fact, that a while back I accidently ran it over one of my fingers, and got quite a nasty cut. :E With practice, you learn how to use it effectively and safely. To me, the most important tip is keeping the "angle of attack" very low, otherwise you risk digging into your dogs skin with the sharp edge.

RE: Do you really love your Dog? Good food vs cheap food.

I am amused by the low fat diets. We treat inflammatory and skin problems by ADDING fats, granted they are specific Omegas and fatty acids. Dogs and cats just don't have the problem with cholesterol, triglycerides and fats that people do. In 34 years of practice, I can count on one hand the number of dogs I've seen that have had these problems......I think it is not uncommon for people to anthropomorphize their health issues and concerns to their pets, i.e., "If this dog food makes me sick when I eat it, then it must be bad for Bowzer as well!" :W

Low pressure, high pressure, regulators and such . . . .

Egads people, I know this has beaten to death in the past, but I have searched and not found a definitive answer now that I would like one.:S Our "new to us" 2009 KZ Spree has a quick-connect gas fitting just inside of the front storage compartment. I have a Weber "Go Anywhere" grill, which I like. I have successfully used it connected to a 20# tank with an adapter hose I got at the hardware store. I would like to now be able to hook it up to the onboard, quick-connect on the Spree. Can I do that without removing the regulator from the Weber?? I don't want to do that, as I also want to retain it's portability. Also, if I did remove the regulator, how the heck do you control the flame???:@ http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/I/411YEMFCZTL._SL500_AA300_.jpg
