RE: tube out of the back of the refrigerator

The tube is connected to the drain tray that is under the cooling fins inside of the refrigerator and the plug in the hose on the outside is actually a screened plug to prevent bugs from getting inside of your fridge. The hose with the screened plug should be hanging outside of the access door (exterior) so that the condensation (water) will not drip inside of your rig and cause rot.

RE: 2 weeks....here we come

Looks like fun. How much time do you have to make your trip? We did our trip from SF area to Wisconsin Dells the long way (5700 miles) and took two and a half months doing it. Good luck and enjoy your trip

RE: Dometic fridge stopped cooling..HELP!!

Our 2852 went out in January this year. No odors either. It was a 03 model. The 2852 had problems and a recall. Purchased a new one and installed it.

RE: Tutorial on repacking bearings and elec brake inspection ?

$275 per wheel is way too expensive. More like a rip off. Go to the link below for a pdf manual on the Dexter brakes. http://www.dexteraxle.com/literature1 They are not difficult to work on. Good Luck John

RE: Brake Light Out

Sounds like you need to check to see if your turn signal switch is sending power to both the left and right stop lights. They are separated at the turn signal switch.

RE: Traveling California Coast

I would suggest that you not go on hiway 1. 101 is fine though.

RE: When did we get the right to speed?

Since when does the word 'freedom' give us the right to break the law. I was taught that the posted speed limit was the fastest that you could go without breaking the law. Law abiding citizen.

RE: Non Smoking Campground areas

Wow….. This was my 2nd ever posting…. My husband has always done the posting. And I gotta say, incredible drama here, with some really snide remarks. I did not infringe on anyone… I did not ask him to change his way. I did not ask HIM to move. I was bothered by someone elses actions, and I made the changes, whether I liked it or not. And by the way, we were here first… so that means “we” should move? Is that really the solution? Someone earlier in the week didn’t have a long enough sewer hose, and makeshifted one together and spilled gray water on our side of the site. We didn’t like it, but we didn’t make a big deal out of it, but asked if they needed anything as we were going to camping world. As campers, we are all out to a few days, week or what ever of rest and relaxation or what ever it means to you…. Wouldn’t it be nice to treat your neighbor how you would like to be treated….. respectful of one another. We have done a lot of traveling, and have never seen a smoking/non smoking campground, I just thought I’d put it out there. Also, thankfully, have not run across too many folks that are as rude as a few on here…. Sounds like some folks need to get out for some fresh air and enjoy life a little more….

Non Smoking Campground areas

So, we are camping in a beautiful area of Abita Springs, LA. The weather is clear, fresh, and pleasant. Only.... we need to keep our windows and door shut because the RV next to us is a heavy cigar smoker. We are not smokers, and clean air is essential to breathing especially when you have asthma. Everyone has a right to fill their own lungs with what ever they want, but one should not have to be cooped up in our RV, just to avoid the air of their neighbors disgusting habit..... It is an infringement of my rights and my health. A non smoking or ... smokers only...area of a campground would be a great option. Has anyone come across such an option in a campground?

Shower temperature going cold

We are experiencing something that has annoyed me for awhile. We set the temperature for the shower and all is fine till we turn the flow off at the shower head. When we turn the flow back on, only cold water comes out for a few seconds before the warm water flows again. It returns to the temperature that was set as long as it flows. It will do this each time we turn the flow off at the shower head. Have thought about installing check valves at the hot and cold inlet to the shower faucet. Was wondering if any of you have experienced this and what did you do to correct this, if you were able to correct this. Any help would be much appreciated. Thanks in advance. John

RE: jacking up a 5th wheel

I just packed the wheel bearings and replaced the brake shoes the other day on all four wheels. Used a bottle jack under the leaf spring at the axle and raised just enough to clear the ground. Put blocks under the axle for safety sake, doing one wheel at a time and had no problems. Did not hook up to tow vehicle.

RE: Well,,,,we did it !

Thanks to everyone for their input. As far as driving, we intend to keep it down to about 250 or less per day. All of you had good advice. Thanks for all that wished us luck. Will be on forum more often now that I am not being 'paid' to do something else. John

Well,,,,we did it !

Yesterday was my last day of work. I start the new year off, retired. Now we have a month to pack up the 5er for our 2 year trek around the USA. From here we will head south to San Diego, then to New Orleans then to Wisconsin Dells. Have to be in Wisconsin Dells by 14 Apr, will workamp there for 5 months. Will see friends, relatives and the sights along the way (have 77 days to get to Wisconsin). We leave here 28 Jan 12. It has been an interesting experience deciding what to pack for the 2 years. You can buy most anything once on the road, so deciding what is necessary to pack has involved a lot of decision making. I have figured out that we do need to bring clothes, money and toilet paper for sure. I do have my RV.net sticker on our 5er. Hope to see some of you out there on our travels. HAPPY NEW YEAR TO ALL OF YOU John and Janet

RE: Whenever I hookup my 5th wheel.....

Whenever I hookup my 5th wheel and head out on the open road. All of the roads instantly go up hill. No matter where I am, I'm always going up hill. Can some one explain this phenomenon? :B Thanks Look at it this way, once you finally get to the top, it will be all downhill from then on.

RE: Pin box stabilizer

We have used a tripod for 21 years and it worked perfectly. No movement once installed properly. For it to be effective, you have to put a substantial load on it. If you just place it so that it is just in tight but, not enough load, it will do next to nothing for you. We are planning to full time this next Feb, so to save on space, I am fabricating my own set of front stabilizers (copy of JT's). We are retiring 30 Dec 11, pack and prep in Jan 12 and then off we go. Good Luck

RE: pressure regulators

A filter WILL NOT manage pressure spikes unless it specifically has a pressure regulator feature.True it will not control pressure spikes. But, a filter only lets so much water thru at a time...and it is less than a straight hose. If there is a pressure spike, it is much more likely to negatively impact the hose from the shore spigot to the filter, not from the filter to the RVs internal plumbing. Pressure is not a function of volume. As an example, a pressure washer might use 2 gallons of water a minute at 3000 psi whereas if you were just using the garden hose that connects to the pressure washer alone you would use 5 to 10 gallons of water a minute at 60 psi. A filter will do nothing to protect you from pressure unless the cartridge inside it is clogged. Then it will reduce pressure but you will get very little water through it. True, if the line pressure goes up, so will the pressure on the down stream side of the filter. For the filter to buffer any pressure spikes, the filter will have to be plugged to the point where the flow will be so reduced, that water discharged from any faucet will be very slow.

RE: California Restriction Code 41

I just went on the Calif. DMV web sit and the RV handbook says an endorsement is required for travel trailers over 10,000 lbs and 5th wheel trailers over 15,000 lbs. Unless the handbook is full of BS someone else is. If someone can tell me how to post the PDF handbook on this web site I will post it. The DMV uses the GVWR, not dry weight. Copied from the DMV; Recreational Vehicles and Trailers Recreational Trailer Endorsement A driver must have a fifth-wheel recreational trailer endorsement added to his/her Class C driver license to pull a fifth-wheel recreational trailer over 10,000 lbs., but not over 15,000 lbs. GVWR, which is not used for hire. This endorsement is not required if the driver has a Class A or Noncommercial Class A driver license. There is no fee unless your license expires within six months. You will take a law test for a noncommercial Class A license based on the information contained in this booklet. You must also pass the Class C law test unless you qualified for a Class C license within the past twelve months. You are not required to submit a Health Questionnaire. You are not required to take a driving test to add a Recreational Trailer endorsement to your current license. No other tests are required.
