RE: Adventurer Warranty Problems (What to do?)

I know you have fought this problem and are worn out with it. I agree with the above poster about Lawyers, BBB,etc. I know it must be a long way from GA to the manufacturer but that would be the thing to do.Give them a call and tell them you are coming. Show up one morning and meet them face to face. Things seem to get ironed out when this happens. After the sale customer service means a lot to me.

RE: Wiring question

You need a line that is or heavier to carry the current necessary to power the fridge and keep your house battery charged. Thanks for the replies. I checked & think my wire is 12 or 14 ga. What ga is the charging wire in my truck to camper cable. If it is 12 or 14 it doesn't seem like an 8 ga from the alternator to the truck connector wouldn't help. I also did not mention that we do not use propane. We don't even take a propane tank with us. With this in mind could there be a switch on the fridge to cut the propane circuit off. I also thought, like the above poster, that if I selected DC the fridge stayed on DC battery low or not. I appreciate everyone's time and help.

Wiring question

I can't figure this one out. I need help When the T/C is loaded on our truck with the truck/camper cable not connected I read over 12 volts on my battery at the circuit breaker and the 12v receptacles.I can also manually put our fridge on 12vdc and everything is fine including all the 12v lights, fan, etc. Here is the problem: I can connect the truck/camper cable and all is still well. I crank the truck and away we go. Whenever we stop(without turning the truck off) everything is working normally. Then I turn the truck off. I get a clicking sound(like a relay making & breaking) from the fridge. I look in the camper and the DC light & temp light are flashing in rhythm with the clicking. So then I crank the truck and the clicking & flashing are still present. After driving for about an hour we pull into a rest area. No clicking or flashing and everything is normal until I turn the truck off again. Our camper battery is new and shows 12.75 charge. I don't know where to go from here.:?:h Any ideas will be appreciated.

RE: Joining the TC world

To other fellow Palomino owners, do you use your TC only while loaded on your truck? Do you take yours off while at a campground for 2-3 nights? Thanks again!!! If we have the boat, we take the camper off the truck. Without the boat we leave it on and stabilize by lowering the jacks to the ground. This has worked very well for us.

RE: Have I lost my mind??

Working on the T/C, Caulked the roof,Lubed the jacks,Washing and waxing the whole thing. Had a guy tell me yesterday that I had lost my mind doing all this work for someone else. I told him, my reasoning for it was make it look better, Take care of the roof. I know its done, and you never now when someone buys something and have issues. I figure with the roof serviced, that I know its not going to just start leaking on who ever buys it. For me what people think of me on trading or selling something. I don't want them to have reason to say I took advantage of someone. If I were buying a unit, I'm sure I would have to do the above! Rather then enjoy the camper for 6 months without having to do the above work on it. Part of me hopes it sells fast, The other part is praying it does not sell until May. That way I get one more trip out of it in East Tn. Pete Shiloh Red, are you getting rid of your T/C? I really liked the set-up you had. Do you still have both War Eagle boats or are you replacing everything. Happy Easter to you and your family.

RE: Feel stupid...

Shouldn't you be able to check the voltage at the truck 7 pin connector without the T/C attached? Check the 12v pin with ignition on & then off.

RE: Joining the TC world

Well, we finally did it.... after talking about wanting to try truck campers we are now the owners of a Palomino Bronco 1500 and we take delivery on it on Friday morning. This will be used as our second camper. We also have a Sunline TT, that we just could not get rid of. Instead of trading in the Sunline, we just went with a more affordable TC so we can keep both. We are super excited for Friday to roll around. We are going to pick up and then head out for the weekend. I am sure we have alot to learn about owning a TC....but exciting none the less. Is there any other Palomino Bronco owners here? 2010 with 2012 factory upgrade..We really have enjoyed this camper. http://i7.photobucket.com/albums/y299/Noahsarc/KerrTripoct17-20-2010010.jpg

RE: Palomino popups are really cheap. So......

I have a 2007 1251B and it has the hard flip down back panel. Didn't mind it at first until I banged my head on it when I was inside with the top down. The canvas panel sounds interesting, does it look like an easy upgrade to the old style? When i saw a 2012 I called the factory and asked about doing an upgrade. They told me to bring it to the factory and they would do it. Drove to Michigan and Palomino replaced the whole roof, door and canvas. Total charge, $0.00. This might be a cheap camper but the factory surely backs their product.

RE: Palomino popups are really cheap. So......

Thanks, Gwwing. That's the model we'd be interested in (I'm too old for a potty tent). I wonder if they've fixed the leak problem. One would think that the company's been around long enough to get to it! I've seen those eBay guys--their auctions provide more information on the campers than the manufacturer does. Time to see how many people we can shove into a Palomino. :) We have a 2010 Palomino 1251B with a 2012 upgrade done at the factory. The rear door is a different make up with canvas sides rather than the hard fold down sides. We have now logged over 10,000 miles on our T/C. We have a Toyota Tundra with Firestone air bags and a Toyota Sway Bar. We have had zero problems..

Thanks for the replies

Tire Pressure

My tires have a load rating of 2601 lbs@44psi. Should I pressure up to 44 lbs before or after loading the camper? I'm not sure but I think the last time it raised the tire pressure when I loaded our camper. Don't want to blow out a tire.

RE: Refrigerator power source when traveling

We have now rolled up about 10,000 miles on our TC..We sometimes travel as much as 9 hours in one day..We always use the 12volt battery option..We have never(knock on wood) had a battery problem..We get to a campground and plug in to shore power..The Fridge transfers to A/C automatically and also charges the TC battery.. I just haven't run into a problem doing it this way.

RE: GVWR factory vs. modified

Two reasons for not buying a 3500HD. First I wanted a standard bed with the extended cab which is not available with the 3500HD. Second there are very few 2500SD extended cab diesel trucks available on dealer lots and none that are 3500HD. I was at a dealership earlier in the week and the sales manager did a search for a 3500HD with the diesel engine and the extended cab and the search covered every dealer's lot in the entire state of California, which is one of the bigger and more populous states in the country. The search came back with zero vehicles in the entire state. Additionally I plan to be driving the truck 90% of the time without the camper in the back and my preference for an everyday vehicle for my business is one that is easy to drive and park anywhere I go, which would hardly be the case with a crew cab long bed truck with DRW. I found a fully loaded 2500HD with the diesel and the locking differential and heavy load and towing package in the trim I wanted with the extend cab and the short box and with a $900 bonus package (bed box and access steps) available to businesses that buy a truck for work and got $3500 in factory discounts. My cost for the new truck out the door was $41K and I have not found anything comparable anywhere in the USA selling for less than $52K. Saving over $11,000 on the purchase price and another $800 in state sales tax made it worth the $445 cost to add Supersprings to the rear of the truck, and it will more than cover the cost of upgraded shocks, wheels, and tires, all of which I would have been buying even with a 3500HD. I have been going offroad and camping for more than 40 years starting with a 1954 Willys in 1966, and the smaller the vehicle and the shorter the wheelbase the more places it can go safely and without a lot of drama (which is hard on the truck, hard on the driver, and hard on the passengers). If I was going to drive from my house to an RV park then a 1 ton with duallies and a long bed and a 4000 lbs. camper would be something to consider, or for that matter just buying a Class C motorhome. As for being stopped and paying a big fine I do not know where you live and drive but with 40 years of driving trucks with and without campers and pulling utility, camping, and horse trailers, throughout the western USA and Canada I have never had anyone demand to weigh my rig nor known anyone who has. In California the weigh stations have signs that tell people with pickups and other non-tractor trucks to not go into the weigh stations. It makes as much sense to worry about some GVWR police force as it does to worry about Saudi terrorists planting a bomb at an RV park. My concern is safety and not having a component failure or anything similar that affects control of the vehicle. As long as changing the wheels and tires and adding helper springs does not affect the GM warranty for the truck there is no reason not to add them and good reasons to do so. In the future if you do not have anything constructive to provide in the way of information I would appreciate your keeping your thoughts to yourself. Thanks. Very informative post...Thanks for sharing your thoughts..

RE: My new to me 07 SunLite

DJ,I really like your set-up and I'm liking that Ford truck better every time I see it.. Would you give us an update on how the truck is doing? I love my truck more every day. Got to use the new front locker in NV last month involving mud, steep incline and a cattle guard!!!! Of course I enjoy the thumbs up I get when driving it. I don't know about the younger generation tho. They make a fist and extend their little finger and thumb and kind of shake it. I don't know what that means but I have my baseball bat just in case!!!! :B DJ, what is the HWY mpg and overall mpg so far?

RE: Leaving this morning, one more question

I think some propane saftey classes are in order. Couple that with some propane counseling. Its used because its the cheapest, , most availible alterative fuel. I heat my home with the stuff full basement and all. Maybe start with a small propane grill in the cooking tent and work your way up. As has been stated gasoline is as dangerous or more but we see anyone can fuel up a motor vehical. Do you really think propane is safer than electricity?

RE: Leaving this morning, one more question

I think the key to enjoyment is to find the things that work for you. In our case an all electric, entry level, pop up camper and an underrated truck works fine. For others it will not work so well.. Everyone have a great weekend...

RE: Leaving this morning, one more question

Just returned from our trip South.. Some info on running the fridge. We hooked the camper up to A/C at the garage for a couple of days..Packed all the food in and checked the temp before leaving and it was 38* with the temp setting on 4.. I set the power to DC and we took off..We drove 9 hours turning the truck off when we stopped along the way...We finally stopped at Buffalo, TN for the night.. Before hooking up to A/C I checked the fridge temp..It was 41* and all food was cold.. This was a long drive for us and we usually stop after 5 or 6 hours.Using the 12V truck/camper system worked fine for us and I am very pleased... At a rest area a trucker said it would even do better if I installed an inverter...Don't know much about inverters but I think we are alright with the present setup. We put around 1700 miles on the Tundra with no problems and averaged 14.0 mpg... We are taking off again, on a fishing trip, next Wednesday... Truck camping is a lot of fun..
