RE: Cylinder Re-Pack Kit for Level Best?

Rad valve, I looked all through the Parker catalog without finding anything that looked like a match to the cylinders on my motorhome. I found the Kwikee Cylinder pictured at Custom Cylinders website - see the link below: http://customcylindersintinc.com/rv_motor_home_leveling_cylinder.htm http://customcylindersintinc.com/travel_tailer_hydra_slide_motor_home_leveling_cylinder.htm http://customcylindersintinc.com/sites/default/files/imagecache/product_full/182500_16H.jpg This cylinders design was originally designed in 1989 for the leveling systems used on RV motor homes. Companies that have used this cylinders design include Hughes Leveling Systems, Stetson Products, Kwikee Products, Equalizer Systems, The Jack Company, and other non-RV companies. Bore sizes are 2 1/2" and 3", non-repairable, feature heavy duty seals, heavy chrome plate on the piston rod, and stroke lengths from 8" to 30". This design has a heavy duty 16 hole mounting plate that is welded to the cylinder. The rod assembly does not allow any rotation in the operating cycle, and the rod end has a 3/4-10 threaded hole or a simple cross hole in the end for mounting a landing pad. Known RV motor homes that have used this design are National, Gulf Stream, Fleetwood, and Winnebago. The problem I ran into was they were not willing to sell that cylinder to me. They took my dimensions, sent them to their design department and gave me a quote for designing and fabricating a custom cylinder for me - over $500 each. For that price I may as well order them from Kwikee. I need a 3" bore with a 15" stroke. I'm going to shop around to see if any repair shop is willing to cut the bottom open and weld on a threaded, serviceable seal cap in place of it. It's ridiculous they don't make these things so they can be repaired.

RE: RV Tow Car Shield

The Coastline covers are great BUT, you'll need to clean the front of the towed before putting it on to keep the dirt from being rubbed between the cover and paint. The barrier covers are great also, if you want to lug all that extra weight around and have a place to store it when not in use. The full width mud-flaps are great but if you've ever been behind a truck going down the road, you know how much gravel they can pick-up and throw at you. The closer they are to the ground, the more they kick-up. They should be 5" off the ground on level payment at least. Like others have said, I'm a Protect-A-Tow user and have chosen it after trying or looking closely at the other options. I wanted something that would protect my towed vehicle. I wanted something that went on easy and quickly. I wanted something that could be easily stored. I wanted something that could be switched from one towed to another without much trouble. I found the answer to all my wants in the Protect-A-Tow. Check out their website http://protectatow.tripod.com/ for more information.

RE: a white powder like substance

There are two major types of material used for "rubber" roofing. TPO (thermoplastic polyolefin) and EPDM (ethylene propylene diene terpolymer) (After seeing the names spelled out, you now know why they're best referred to by their initials.) Their care and treatment varies widely. The first thing you need to do is determine which type of roofing was used on your MH. Then the responses can better answer the question you have of how to care for it. Both generally carry a 12 year warranty. What year and brand of MH do you have? Perhaps other owners of like units can tell you how they handled the problem.

RE: Radio Replacement in Ford F-53 Dash

Think about it - if it where that easy, why in the world would I have asked for help? I have never seen a modern F-53 where the dash "flipped open". I didn't expect to be treated like an idiot for asking for help. I thought that's what this forum was for. I wasn't being any more snotty than Pirate was for suggesting I couldn't figure out how to flip open my dash. I found his response extremely insulting.

RE: Radio Replacement in Ford F-53 Dash

Pirate, I didn't intend to be snotty about anything. I was simply stating the facts. Why would I ask for help if all I had to do was lift some sort of lid? Do you think I'm lacking in common sense? Using your guideline, I should be the one insulted. I didn't take your reply as legitimate at all and wondered why you would ask me such a question. I'm happy for all those that enjoy that sort of access to there dash. Truck dashboards should be easily serviceable but my motorhome looks like all the others I've seen while looking at the display units in RV shows and there is no access to the rear of the panel without using some sort of a cutting tool to open one up - something I was trying to avoid even though it would be convenient afterwards and I wish it had come that way.

RE: Radio Replacement in Ford F-53 Dash

If there was any access at all to the area behind the dash, I wouldn't have needed to ask how to proceed. The plastic looks like it will snap pretty easily if I try to pry it loose. I was hoping to take advantage of others' experience so I knew what to expect. The original radio doesn't hold it's presets and predates CDs. I've got a Dual HD radio with an auxiliary port I'd like to put in. Both radios seem to be the standard DIN size but I'm not sure if I'll need a wiring connector adapter until I get the old radio free.

Radio Replacement in Ford F-53 Dash

Does anyone have any tips on how to remove/replace the radio in Ford F-53 dash (vintage 2000)? I'd like to upgrade mine but I'm not sure how to get the old cheapo Panasonic radio out without damaging the plastic dash itself. I'd suppose the air conditioner vents will pop off pretty easily but are there any tricks/tips I should know about before attempting the task?

RE: Ford Triton V10 problems

I understand that if water gets sucked past the air filter, it gets on the Mass Air Flow sensor. That causes engine stumble. I think there is something you can spray it with and try to clean it up but you may need to replace it. The problem is as much the design of the front of your motorhome as it is Ford's design - not all motorhomes with the Ford chassis have this problem. I tried a search for "water ingestion" and got these results - read through them. http://www.rv.net/forum/index.cfm/fuseaction/thread/tid/25384847/gotomsg/25386367.cfm#25386367 http://www.rv.net/forum/index.cfm/fuseaction/thread/tid/25182543/gotomsg/25182574.cfm#25182574 http://www.bbrv.dreamstation.com/tube.html http://www.justanswer.com/ford/3s2vy-looking-find-information-regarding-ford-technical-service.html#SeeTheAnswer

RE: Ford Triton V-10

There is no RED LINE on the V-10 tachometer because the computer limit is set at 5200 RPM for the pre-2006 2 valve models. I'm not sure if the newer 3 valve design has the same limit but I'd bet it won't be much different.

RE: Ford Triton V-10

Ford never made a 2005 model of the V-10 chassis for motorhomes. The production run for the 2004 was extended until the end of year in 2004. The production of the much improved 2006 3 valve chassis began in January 2005.

RE: Norcold won't turn on

The trigger for initiating a "harvest cycle" for the ice maker is the temperature of the ice cube mold. When it gets down around 25 degrees, any water in the mold should be ice and that triggers the ice maker to go through a cycle. The end of the cycle lets a fresh batch of water into the mold for the number of seconds allowed. All the switches are triggered by a timing motor. Once the water is in the mold, the ice maker waits for the temperature to drop again before coming back to life, heating the mold before pushing the pushing the cubes out. If the mold was empty to start with, you won't see any ice till the second cycle.

RE: Norcold won't turn on

They used a "Rev B" module on mine when I had the recall done. It lasted 3 or 4 weekends before it quit. When I opened the outside refrigerator panel, the red LED on the module was lit. Wondering why it tripped and knowing it was working fine the last time we used it, I took the module out of the circuit and reconnected the wires as they had been before the module was installed and waited about 1/2 hour. The freezer was beginning to get cool so I let it go overnight. The next day it was down to temp and working fine. I debated what to do and after a couple more weekend uses, I called Norcold to find out what my options were. They told me to take it back to have it checked and they would again cover all expenses. I did and the parts are now in waiting for my appointment time next week to have it repaired again. Sure hope they get it right this time. I bought a mulit-meter with a temperature probe and I'm going to ask the dealer to fasten the thermocouple alongside the recall sensor so I can see just how hot the boiler is getting. If I'm successful, I report the results back here.

RE: Mountain High Pinnacle 2001 model 32-9

Tiamariamitz (Jim & Yvonne), LVJ58 (Jim) and I have 3790 Residency's. His is a 2000 and mine is a 2001. We'd both be glad to share everything we've got with you. The best way to get it to you would be for you to give us your private email address in a private message on this forum. I could then send you the information as PDF attachments. If formation on the chassis and engine is all Ford. You made a good move switching to the Koni shocks according to Jim. My problem wasn't a harsh ride but a bouncing tire on my tag axle so I haven't changed my shocks yet mainly because of the expense. Send me that PM including what information you're looking for and I'll send you what I've got. We don't have the exact same models but all the appliances, accessories and problems should be about the same. Don

RE: Kwikee jack operation help needed.

travelzoo, It would be a lot easier to talk about your system if you'd include some information about your motorhome like the make, model, year and the series of Kwikee levelers it has. Lots of us include that information in our profiles or signatures. Sure helps to answer questions. Like LVJ58, our coach has the 2000 Series of Kwikee levelers but it doesn't sound like your levelers have the same control panel ours does.

RE: WD-40

I used it to ruin the contactors on several rooftop air conditioners. When I went to start the units the following spring, the sliding parts of the contactors were stuck - at least that's how we found them with their coils all burnt out. It was a very costly learning experience. I've heard the stuff is made with beeswax and the sticky, gummy residue left behind after it dries seems to bear that out. You wouldn't be able find it in my shop since then. Might be useful for coating shovels and garden tools to keep them from rusting. If you're going to use it, do so with extreme caution. I learned my lesson the hard way and I'll never use it again.

RE: Popping noise in front end

summerpaws: Follow the link in Nelson's post - it has a picture of the Z-Brackets. If you don't have them, you need to put them on. Not having them causes a popping noise when doing slow speed turns. Check out this answer on this link Z brackets This what I found when mine was doing the same thing, The Z Brackets took care of the problem http://ww2.justanswer.com/uploads/lostrider/2010-06-19_143137_1.gif

RE: Ford Chassis Warranty questions

At one time Ford was using Coach-Net as their "Motorhome Assistance Center". I'm not sure if they still do but it sounds like it. They always did the best they could to satisfy your needs. Many Ford dealers are very picky about what they work on. The dealer 3 miles from my house sells and works on many very large trucks - like the F550 but they won't even discuss letting you bring a class A motorhome on their lot. They're okay with a triple tandem axle dump truck but don't bring that motorhome in here! I had to go down the street to an authorized Ford agent to have the recall for the fuse on the cruise control - a 5 minute job. For a vibration problem, I had to drive 125 miles one way to get to a dealer that would do the TSB. Always call the Motorhome Assistance Center before looking for a Ford dealer to make any repairs - just because you can see the blue oval, that doesn't mean help is in sight. I'm pretty sure they will help you find a repair facility even after your chassis is out of warranty - worth the try anyway.

RE: Chevy Cruze tow

It seems to me, someone at GM (an engineer) should be able to say what change was made to the transmissions that makes them fail now. GM should also be able to say when those transmissions went into production and what cars are affected. The older models had no problem being towed - even without having to run the engine for 5 minutes to start the day and shifting through the gears. Run engine at the beginning of each day and at each fuel stop for 5 minutes. Remove fuse XX while towing. All of GM's vehicles expect for the HHR and 4WD trucks have this statement shown in the column "SPECIAL PROCEDURES (SEE OWNER’S MANUAL FOR DETAILED INSTRUCTIONS)". Sadly, since June, the HHR is no longer in production. I think when they needed to add that procedure to the owner's manual is when these problems began. This ain't rocket science - somebody knows.
