RE: Any Prov. Park CGs in Ontario/Niagara Falls Region??

we are heading to 50 point this saturday. Only going for the day, but in previous years, have camped in the campground. Its really nice and they have added more spaces. The marina is very nice as is the beach area. Its a very large park, right off the QEW, but once inside you would never know all the traffic was outside the gate. We are attending a metal detecting hunt on the beach. Nice place to go if you get the chance..lots of wineries in the area . Have a great time planning your trip. Dona

RE: Victoria Day Long Weekend plans - What are yours?

we are heading to Woodbine Beach park in Toronto . Minelab metal detectors is holding a BBQ and beach hunt. They put out a new detector this week and it will be on display. Have never been all the way to the lake front, as we are from "potato country". Should take us about 2 hrs to get there. Usually don't travel on a holiday weekend. For us prospectors, it sounded interesting.
Hope all have a great weekend and travel safe! Dona

I used the insulating foam (great stuff) to get every little crack filled and seemed to work pretty good so far.
please send me that CAT! We have a big mouse in our sticks and brick! He has not tripped one trap yet. Our cat just seems to watch him-and do Nothing! Maybe we will try the sticky straps, cannot put out poison, the cat may get into it. Any other suggestions. Don't
know how he got in ! all suggestions welcome. thanks Dona

RE: Sharing satellite access

another thought, as the OP knows, Shaw gives us all local channels all across Canada, and we can time shift to watch a program we may have missed. Dish and Direct do not have this that I know of. Our local stations for the US are Rochester NY and Detroit Mich. We still get them. Also our west coast locals are Seattle. These are the prime time stations of ABC/NBC/CBS and Fox. If your friends are going to be moving around alot, they will have to set up the dish every time they stop or pay the mega bucks for the shaw dish on the trailer roof. Dona

RE: Sharing satellite access

We have shaw satellite here at home in Ontario. We got another 75cm dish and took a receiver to Arizona with us. We leave the dish on our lot in Quartzsite, we registered the model number of the receiver as our cottage and the vin number of the trailer with Shaw and told them its in Arizona. Its OK with them. We have even called tech service in the winter to help us tune the receiver in. Have done this for 7 years. I think the extra receiver is 4.99/month. We do not plug into a phone line, but we could to rent a movie. There is no additional charge per month unless you rent a PPV. Have never had a problem, and know others doing this.

RE: Suggestions for AZ or CA

when you ride thru the rv parks in Yuma, makes you wonder how many in Alberta and BC stayed at home!!!
We are from Ontario, and stay in Quartzsite, a short ride south to Yuma..since we don't like mega shopping and traffic, Q suits us better and we are gold prospectors. We have things to do we enjoy, just not like Yuma. If you are there in January, stop by and visit the vendor of rocks, crystals and whatever in Q. Its an experience! At least once..Dona

RE: Canadian Zip Codes at Pumps!

fueled up yesterday at Flying J in London Ontario. The pump does not ask for any zip or postal code.
Diesel was 128.9/liter! yikes! We had 2 more hours to drive home and its chilly here, 50ish, but glad to be off that 8 day ride home.. Safe travels to all who are going home...Dona

RE: Best route from San Antonio to Toronto

Hello neighbors, we are heading home to Shelburne, a little south of you. We leave from Quartzsite Az on the 27th. We do stay at Fireside in Auburn, nothing to ever write home about, but at least its open. We come thru on I10 to I20 in Texas, then into OK, and over to Joplin Missouri stay at the KOA or try to stay at Downstream Casino(exit 1 just as you enter Missouri). Then thru St. Louis to Effingham Ill , which has camp lakewood at ext 161, behind the super Walmart, great place to stay, good owners and very clean.
We also cross at Port Huron/Sarnia. Depending on weather, route change is possible, but not likely. If you would like our route numbers, just ask, be glad to provide. Dona

RE: Prescription Drugs

I checked 2 years ago with Walmart-they do not do cross border Rx's. We always bought a 6 month supply in Ontario aand took them across, if needed we headed to Mexico and got anything else we needed. Since we are now over 65, RX's are really inexpensive for us in Ontario. We had our MD write for a 6 month supply, then the pharmacy had us sign a document and they filled the 6 months all at one time. We did not have a problem. We did not have any drug plan, so no problem paying and getting the 6 months worth.
We were in Mexico last wednesday, you do not need a hand written prescription for rx's, they will sell you a 3 month supply, except for antibiotics-seems a new rule in the US is in effect, the pharmacy advised us the border customs could take them away, and did see a few folks heading back to the pharmacy for a refund.Even with a hand written prescription, they can make you take them back.

RE: Bell Satellite

maybe you should switch to shaw. We have used ours in Arizona for the last eight winters..we have our fifth wheel listed as our cottage with them. If we need help while in Quartzsite, Shaw has a contact in Yuma and they will send the repairman out to us-no charge.. They have been super to work with and no contract.
As far as the Bell satellite, I have no idea!

RE: Open Road 396rdds

probably doesn't help, but we have a 2007 Open Road 38' 359RL3S- when towing, you don't even know its behind you. Very smooth. Have not had a problem with anything in or outside the trailer. Bought new in May 07. We use it for 5 months in Arizona each winter..good product.

RE: Securing Crystal Figurines When Travelling

check out the dollar stores. We have "tack and stick" it is museum putty, I've seem it in light blue and yellow.(comes in a small package, looks sort of like modeling clay) Does not harm woodwork or wallpaper, or the wall board in the fifth wheel. I use it, but would not take the chance leaving expensive crystal out during travel. I put a few nicknacks up on the slide tops, we stay in same spot all winter, keeps them in place in case someone slams door hard. hope this helps, Dona

RE: for Canada and USA

I have verizon MiFi here in the states, would not use it in Canada, roaming charges would be out of sight! I have it turned off before crossing the border. At home in Ontario, I have Rogers Rocket hub(ethernet) they say you can only use in Canada..Wish I could find something too! In our area, its nothing to write home about!

RE: Resturants in Quartzsite

we were in Silly Al's last saturday with 4 others. Got there at 3:30- packed to the gills and really noisy! The pizza is great! Over past Brenda on Hwy 60 near Vicksburg is a great Mexican restaurant-everything homemade. Dos Amigos, really a good place. Head east on I-10, take exit 31, its about 15 minutes from the exit. You won't be disappointed.
Quartzsite Yacht Club has pretty good food, its better to go at lunch time, not as crowded. They have an enclosed patio with patio propane heaters on the tables. They are also a bar and have OTB(off track betting)
Went to Grubstake about 2 weeks ago, we arrived at 5pm, got the last table outside. The fish is always good, didn't like their calamari-too thick for me.
Sure rained last night, we are out behind Dome Rock in Rainbow Acres, didn't last too ling, but the wind saturday night was also very strong!
