RE: Is this type of plug OK with an Atwood water heater?

Metal (like iron and copper) plugs set up a reaction in the water heater threads that is not unlike the principle on which an automotive battery operates. The aluminum tank is the anode and the plug serve as the cathode. Consequently, the aluminum gradually sacrifices itself and the threads deteriorate. Use the PVC plugs!

RE: Planning vacation near Dollywood TN - Aug 20th

We stayed in River Plantation several years ago. We had one of the sites that backed up to the river. It was a nice little campground. The shuttle to Dollywood did a loop right through the CG and the driver dropped us off right in front of the RV. Much appriciated after a long day of shelping around the amusement park.

RE: Looking for campground in MD, PA, WV, VA with hotel on site

My parents can walk over to the campground or take the shuttle over. We would really like to go to Rocky Gap or Deep Creek Lake in MD, but they do not seem to have hotels close enough. Jim
I don't know how far your parents can walk but the campground at Rocky Gap is on the other side of the lake and is quite a hike. And the hotel in Deep Creek is not in walking distance.
I don't know if there are shuttles from the hotel to the CG.

RE: CO2 detectors.

I noticed there is now an affordable LP/CO detector combo available that fits in the same slot as the old LP one.
Could you post some information on this unit.
Propane is heavier than air (1.5 times as dense). In its raw state, propane sinks and pools at the floor. A detector should be mounted at floor level.
Carbon Monoxide is lighter than air would accumulate at the ceiling It would fill the sleeping space from the ceiling down and by the time it reached the LP gas detector mounted at the floor level, you would have probably been overcome. That is why the detector must be mounted at the highest level possible.
I am interested how a combo unit would work.

RE: Seasonal Site..Leave the fridge on or turn it off each time?

I start mind at the beginning of the season and it doesn't go off until it's time to winterize. I leave beer, food, etc. in it so I can take of at a moments notice.

RE: I need advice on Propane Bottles

Th date stamp shows the last time the tank was hydrostatically pressure tested. You can exchage them even if the date for a re-hydro has passed. The propane company will service the trade in or discard it as they see fit. The Home Depot near me has an unmanned system for sales. You slip your debit card in, you key in the number of a locker that has a full tank, it unlocks, you take out the full one and put the old one in its place. You can pick anyone you want.

RE: NC to Niagara Falls (by way of Boston)

Annapolis - closest campground is Millersville KOA,
Baltimore - if you wanr full hook ups Cherry Hill Park, if you don't need hookups then go to Patapsco Valley State Park. North of Baltimore is Bar Harbor RV Park. Not great but serviceable.

RE: Question on 50 amp service

Get yourself one of these
Fifty amp service has 4 wires with two 120-volt HOT feeds. The "dogbone"just picks up one of the hot feeds.

RE: New York camping

I use Liberty Harbor. Like every one says,it just a asphalt chunk of a commuter parking lot(literally) that they fenced off, but its about Location, Location, Location.

The ferry that takes the Wall Street workers from Jersey to Pier 11 leaves right from the marina. (The white square building in the photo below is the ticket booth). The buildings in the bacrground is Wall Street.
The PATH subway train is a 5 block walk up Marin Blvd and it will take you right to the World Trade Center station of to the 34th Street Station in Manhattan. From there you can jump on the subway or you can surface and grab a cab,or you can hoof it up to Times Square, the Theater District,or a bunch of other "stuff".

If you are going for the fire works, the Light Rail Station just a block away will take you up the Hudson River on the Jersy side to where the barges in the river are that are the launch platforms for the fireworks. Very Cool.
Finally, you are a 10 minute ride to Jersey Park, where you can pick up the ferry out to the Statue of Liberty or you can go to the Science Center.

RE: Cape Hatteras KOA

If you mean are they up and running since the hurricane, yes they are up and running. They only sustained mimimal damage and were open a week or so after.
Oops, Oh dopey me. I misread your tag line last night. Thought it said Camp Hatteras. Sorry about that. Couldn't figure out your question as Camp Hatteras was up and running a week after the hurricane.
The KOA did take a big hit and the information given to you by jayco304 (a more careful reader then I) is a pretty good assessment.

RE: Pop Ups

A tent is just a roll of canvas. A pop-up is a trailer in any state in the Union.
The Secretaty of State of Illinois says that it is a recreational trailer. You can read about it here
Nice try, but a weak one.

RE: Myrtle Beach SC

Once you get an understanding of the wind coming in off the ocean, you will understand why they have no fire pits.
I can't think of many ocean side campgrounds up and down the coast that have fire pits. I have stayed someplace (Delaware, maybe) where you could have fires on the beach on the far side of the dunes, but those are few and far between. Plus lugging the wood and stuff over the dune kind of made it not worth doing.
Ocean Lakes is nice. I prefer Myrtle Beach Travel Park, but they don't rent golf carts. In fact, they restrict golf carts to the full timers.

RE: What do I put in my water? Bleach?

Any tips you can share would be great.
As a couple of posters above said, you only add chlorine when you sanitize your water tank at the beginning of the season. If you look at this website you will find the proper method for sanizitng you water system.
Make sure to get your water from a reliable source whenever you can. If you aren't sure, you can add 8 drops per gallon to your water tank. Once you get home, drain and refill your tank.
I have used this method at the beginning of the season for years and I drink tank water, and have never had a problem.
