RE: I'm tired of these sheets!

Could a small camcorder and a night light possibly shed some light on why the covers are falling off the bed. I have always had excessive body heat and found out that I would throw the covers off me later in the night. I was not aware that I did these things until I used the process of elimination. Stranger things have happened.

Mileage also depends on make and model of vehicle. I had a 2002 7.4 litre chevy gasser that had full crew, 8' bed and duallys. I swear that I could park it in the shade and leave it sit all day long without starting it and I would find that it has burned at least one gallon of gas. Leave it sit for a week, and I would have to put gas in with a can.

I have looked at just about all of them. Always pretty much log into RV.NET. I figgured out a long time ago, that I wasn't smart enough to answer any of the questions on any of them, so I just read and laugh. I don't spend too much time on forums because I have many more important things to do. Why I have even been known to take a Bubba Jug of cold sweet tea and a folding chair down to the nearest intersection and spend a couple of hours watching two streets run together. :W
I spent ½ an hour today watching grass grow. Don't tell me I have nothing to do. :R

Thanks azpete. Still having trouble getting around, but going out to the camper today to try to analyze the problem. I did manage to take some pictures of the Hydraulic pump and valve assemblies, but still do not know what I really have. I do beleive that you are probably right in that they never dropped more than about 4 inches (and that only the right one). The left one never dropped more than 2 inches. I am planning to take it to Runaway RV south of Dothan, AL and let them take a look at it.
I do very much appreciate the information and the responses.

Thanks for the responses azpete and RVPapa. I must apologize for the lateness of my reply, but when I returned from my trip, I had to get medical help for a severe case of gout in my right foot and could barely walk for the last two days. each hydraulic operation is controlled by a set of valves. one extend and one retract, if it is power extend/power retract. the landing gear operation is controlled by a separate set of valves, from the rooms. it will have to be one of the valves on the landing gear operation that is leaking internally.
the easy solution is to replace both valves that control the landing gear operation. they are not that expensive. relatively speaking.
if you diagnose it, you will probably find that it is the retract valve leaking thru. when the jacks are retracted, and the pressure on the retract side drops, the fluid pressure in the extend side will push the jack down, till internal pressure is equalized. if you have pressure on the jacks, like when you are parked and jacks down, the weight of the trailer would force the fluid thru the leaking valve. It was my bad for not supplying the information regarding the manfacturer of the hydraulic system. Not being a hydraulic expert, I made the assumption that hydraulic was simply hydraulic's. In the case of the front jacks, pressure in the top will push the jacks down, and pressure from the bottom would cause the jacks to retract. azpete, you stated that the valves were not that expensive so I have to act dumb and ask if the valves are near the pump and accessible or are they in the jack legs, totally inaccessible. I can't do anything until my foot gets better, but I will probably take it to an RV repair shop for an assessment of cost. It scares me to know that the feet could drop to the pavement while traveling along at my standard 63 MPH.

Problems with hydraulic jack legs

I have a question on partial extension of the front jack legs of my Cedar Creek 37RDQS camper. On a trip back to South Alabama from Austin TX, I discovered that my right jack leg (curb side) would be lowered approx 4 inches from the up position leaving me with only about two inches of clearance before hitting the road surface and the left jack leg (street side) would be lowered a couple of inches. They will retract to the up position when the button is pushed, but by the time you get to the next rest stop, they will have drifted :? back down. I can’t push them back up by hand and I haven’t tried a jack to see if they are floating. It concerns me in that my front jacks haven’t given me much initial clearance from the day the unit was purchased.
I have experienced a couple of problems with these legs in the past. On two different occasions, the jacks simply released and dumped the trailer down in the front until the legs bottomed out. The unit was picked back up when the extend button was pressed. Camping World kept the camper for two weeks trying :? to find the problem, until I went to get it and found it totally in the back corner of the vehicles waiting for something to be done to them. Four other campers were in front of it. I could not tell that anything had been done to it.
There was also a time when the front jacks would lift to the traveling height, only to automatically extend back down to the ground. I discovered that by raising and lowering them in a different pattern with the four slide outs that they would stay in the raised position.
When all of these problems started, I purchased a bottle of hydraulic jack oil from Camping World and filled the reservoir nearly to the top (1/2 inch clearance at the top). Some of the problems still occurred after that. I checked it on my trip to Gulf Shores AL and on to Gulfport MS and the jacks were still dropping down there and back.
How do you properly bleed the lines if they contain air? If not air, what could be causing this problem. I sure hope that it isn’t leaking seals.

She sure will be missed. I just received my replacement parts for my torn up Rotochoks. I had to call three times before I received a return call from a man. He stated that they were having problems with the phones, and that he was helping out trying to catch up. After putting my order together, he assured me that he would send me a tracking number because UPS can't get into my property without me leaving the gate open. He did send the tracking number one day before delivery.
Why the long story. During all of this, nothing was said to me about Pearl passing away.

Bet you didn't have them tight enough!I think that if I had had them any tighter, there would have been permanent indentations in the tires. :B
Seriously, they were as tight as I could get them and insert a pin. I'm thinking that maybe they were not exactly centered on the tires and simply twisted out. The bottom of one had considerable damage in that the bolts were really bent, but the chocks themselves were OK. All of them had varying degrees of plastic removed. That stuff cleans up very easily with a utility knife, so I understand that they would receive the damage before the tires.

Any damage to spring hangers or undercarriage? Axles still aligned? Pull hard enough and something gotta give.Only had time to check out the tires. They seem to be OK. Will inspect further tomorrow.

Fifth wheel design flaw

I noticed water dripping out of the front of my overhang by the hitch and thought that I had a water leak somewhere inside the trailer. I could not find anywhere that water could get into that area. I looked on the outside and discovered that where the underside and the sides of the camper mated, the sealant had dried up and cracked permitting rain or wash water to enter. It is a very small crack, but over time allowed enough water to enter to cause major damage. One side had dropped about 3/8th of an inch. I removed the cover for the screws and removed what I could of the screws. They were totally rusted away. They were screwed into a strip of wood and the wood was totally rotten. I found out that longer screws could be installed by drilling into some aluminum. This pulled everything back in place. I applied Dicor along the top of the connection to temporarily stop water from entering. To effect a complete repair, the entire underneath of the overhang will have to be removed. Two man job.
The design flaw. The underside on my camper is installed outside the side of the camper. In my oppinion, it should be installed under the side of the camper. Installed the way it is, it acts like a cup whereas if it was behind the water simply would drip off.
I have no idea how many brands are made this way, but I recommend that everyone check or at least keep an eye on it. Having said that, I'm pretty sure that mine was the only one with this flaw. :R

Another senior moment. :M Left for a trip last Saturday and returned two days ago. Rotochoks were lying in the grass about 25 feet apart and about 20 feet from where the camper was chocked. I realized what had happened when I got to my destination and could not find the Rotochoks. :@
I thought back on how this could have happened, and realized that a friendly argument between DW and I resulted in my forgetting to remove the Rotochoks. :h
Anyway, I can't find any damage to my four new tires and one of the rotochoks was in pretty good condition. The other one had a mangled bottom. Both had much of the plastic removed from the edges by the tires, but I believe I can still use them. I have to repair the one or buy another one.
I have read many comments on various forums that you can't move the trailer with them installed. I only have one thing to say about that. Ice Hocky of the Bovine kind. You don't have enough power.
I always knew that a Ford, Chevy or Dodge could pull off with the chocks installed, but was pleasantly surprised to learn that my 08 3500 HD GMC duramax with allison and dually's could also do it. It kinda made me happy about the situation knowing that I was running with the big boys. :B
Check, check and double check or is that measure twice and cut once.

In over 60 + years of working on all types of vehicles, it is my oppinion that self adjusting brakes don't work and never will. I personally adjust the brakes when I rotate the tires. I want one full spin of the tire (or slightly less) after adjustment.
I just adjusted the rear drum brakes on my 06 Pontiac Torrent and I am still laughing at the setup. The access hole is on the front of the backing plate, but the adjuster is exactly in the top middle of the brake assembly. They have to be adjusted to the point that you can barely slide the drum on. And no, they did not automatically adjust.
Everyone else may have different experiences.

Why?
Because if he is in a Mh the tv won't work with the ign. on.If I understood previous posts correctly, a TV can be played going down the road as long as it is behind the drivers seat in most if not all states. I know that you can in Alabama.

Sounds like someone feels that they won't be able to matchup the paint, so they plan to repaint the entire camper. Someone dinged up my left rear quarter panel pulling it out from the shelter. Cost of a quart of paint and a couple of other items was in the high Fifty's, BUT it will also paint the fender skirts that were replaced after a tire blew and someplace I won't mention (initials are CW), wouldn't do the job.
Oh well, life goes on.

RE: 50 amp plug on front of 5th wheel

My previous posts on this subject seem to have dissappeared. I believe I still have pictures, but if not, I can take more. Almost all setups will be somewhat different, but a brief explanation of mine is that I hardwired from the front of the hitch back under the overhang, through my storage area to my electrical section and tied into an automatic 50 Amp transfer switch. The cable from the front of the hitch simply plugs into the generator when I am running down the road or as needed.

Steve, we have a sleeper with an air mattress that came with our 2010 Heartland Sundance and it already has a leak we can't seem to locate. Comfort wise it's a toss-up. Some like it and some don't. If you are (or anyone else that may be using it) the type of person that moves around a lot while sleeping (as I am) then I would not recommend it. If you're a dead-to-the-world type sleeper then it may be ok. With that said I have read a lot of negative reviews on the durability of them...leaks, bad compressors etc. I personally now wish our unit would have come with a traditional sleeper that, if needed, I could have purchased a better mattress for.

That is exactly the type of response I was looking for so thank you!Paulm235 has a leak and I don't. We removed that dumb coutch with bed and installed two more recliners making a total of four recliners. My living room is an inclosed living room if I so desire. I purchased an air matress from WalMart with attached air pump and it has been used by my grown children as well as grandchildren. In fact, My 6'3 son slept on it for three nights during the labor day weekend and I let the air out just this morning. It was still tight. We place a piece of two inch foam on top of it, a sheet and then blankets. It is on the floor in the living room. Have never had a problem with it. Your call.
