RE: Motorhome Delivery problems

I flew to Vegas and to avoid paying Cal tax
Consider it Karma. What goes around comes around.
Who should pay for the tires depends on one thing and one thing only-had the title passed hands yet? If yes, it's your vehicle, your problem. If no, they should pay. And ALWAYS get stuff in writing.

Sold the Endura tonight

Wow. We just sold the Endura. I'm kind of in shock, but we haven't been using it and knew it was time. It was bought by a family that has 2 older kids and a 2 year old (blended family). They plan on using it when they go paintballing for shelter, camping, and going to car meets. They are going to be king and queen of the paintball field with that puppy! I'm sad in some ways because we have so many wonderful memories but happy as to who bought it. We did have to lowball the price some, but are still above water and that's all that matters. Right now we've got flying trips planned to South Dakota (this year), Denmark & Iceland (next year) and Hawaii (2 years from now) so I'd much rather see it being used rather then just sitting in the yard. With a sad face. Wanting to be on the road. In a few years we plan on getting a truck camper so not giving up on the lifestyle permanently, just for a while. And the BEST part is I'm still going to stay on here to bug you guys! :B

RE: Sell or trade in a boat, best way?

I agree you get more money if you sell privately, but then there's the headache of being home for people (who often don't show up), wondering if they are casing your house, etc. Personally I prefer to trade-I know I lose money but then I also lose any liability.

RE: Best route Southern Maine to P.E.I

We've gone that way from here in Mass multiple times, both on Rt. 9 and Rt. 2. I would say it depends on how comfortable you are driving your rig. Rt. 9 is much improved-climbing lanes in many areas, good pavement, road-redesigns in bad areas-and is a much prettier drive. However, if you aren't comfortable at the prospect of some good hills and potential logging trucks (which can be a little impatient) stick to the highways. Personally I LOVE Rt. 9, big rig or not. This is when I know I'm REALLY on vacation.

RE: Sometimes financing makes sense

Debt is morally and ethically neutral, neither good, nor bad. Debt can destroy lives, but it can also allow people to do things that could never happen otherwise. The first park we bought cost $1.6 million dollars, a figure that would be unabtainable without financing, regardless of how good as savers we were. We were able to use our savings for the downpayment and borrow the remainder. Without financing, the rich would be the only people able to buy large assets, essentially eliminating the ability of all other people to ever climb the economic ladder.
Bravo. Well said. Debt is not the problem-it's how the debtor handles it.

RE: Gun shows???

Mass is a combo of dealer, collectors, just private citizens. There's usually a booth set up to handle the paperwork associated with transactions. As far as pricing goes, we haven't seen many on common firearms but it's a great place to find speciality items. There are deals to be had, but just like buying an RV know your pricing ahead of time.

RE: Jackson Hole, WY Stuff to Do

How about visiting the Wind River Reservation - curious about that - as a side trip from Jackson (trying to keep the thread on Jackson still!) - but I saw it wasn't too far away.
Before this thread degenerates into something that will disintegrate, can we please keep on the original topic for the OP?
I haven't been to Wind River Reservation-may someone else has?

RE: Jackson Hole, WY Stuff to Do

Chuckwagon dinner at the Bar-T-5 ranch, horseback riding in Grand Teton National Park, dinner at the Grand Teton Lodge (pricey but those elk tenderloins are worth every penny!), stroll downtown Jackson Hole, hiking in GTNP, and wildlife viewing in GTNP.
p.s. One night in that area is nowhere near enough time.

RE: Traveling w/ a pet, check this out

So are all of you who want to ban vicious breeds out to get Springer spaniels due to the potential of Springer rage? I've got two of them who are the sweetest babies you'd ever meet but because the "potential" is there should the whole breed be banned? When ANY breed is overbred, bred for the wrong reason, or is bred BY STUPID PEOPLE there can be an issue. It's stupid PEOPLE, not breeds, that are the problem.

RE: East Coast trip in November / December

Hotel it and leave the camper at home or go south for this run. Too many potential issues with weather, closed campgrounds, being stuck somewhere due to snow, power loss, etc. Pulling a TT on icy roads won't be any fun.
There's plenty to do around here inside, so that's not an issue. However, you will freeze pipes in the TT as it will be cold enough. I'd rethink everything altogether.

RE: Can you bear to part with your "man toys"?

My hubby? Not a prayer. Lots of "one job" tools (easier than renting he says, just in case), miscellaneous parts, pieces, claims when he buys a new firearm he'll sell another (just how many of the same cal/gauge do you REALLY need?), etc. Guess it's just like some woman and dresses. I think I've got 5 "little black dresses" that are all slightly different, although I haven't worn one in a couple of years. But you never know when I just might need one!

RE: Mothers Day

Thanks! I'm going to clean the house, visit my mom-in-law, come home and cook dinner (hubby DID make me a great Belgian waffle for breakfast!), do some laundry, and then mope when hubby packs to go on his business trip this week. But don't worry-the mope will disappear when I've got control of the remote AND laptop! MD is just another day in the life. I don't mind at all-they treat me well enough during the year so it doesn't matter much to me. Although I will say I'm VERY curious as to my gift this year-they are both VERY excited about it. :B

RE: nutrition facts, carbohydrates?????

I am a diabetic. Talk to a nutritionist and an endocrinologist about how many carbs per meal or snack are acceptable. It will differ based on your weight, gender, current A1C level, etc. There are 10 danger foods you are not supposed to eat-some cereals (even those without sugar), white potatoes, white pasta, mint, bananas, white bread, white rice (I forget the rest)-but again, depending on "how' diabetic you are you can eat anything in moderation. Carbs are carbs, sugar is sugar, period-insulin can't tell the difference. However, some foods have much higher glycemic levels than others AND, more importantly, you also need to determine your "trigger" foods. I cannot eat granola because it spikes my sugar level. I can eat white pasta with no effect. It also helps to consume some protein (cheese, peanut butter, nuts) anytime you eat, even with a snack, as the protein helps your body process the sugar.
There are two parts to the equation of controling sugar level. The first is diet, and the second and equally as important is exercise. Insulin does not respond well to fat cells. The leaner the body, the better the insulin will work. NOTE: THIS DOES NOT NECESSARY EQUATE WEIGHING X POUNDS. You can be heavier, but leaner, and keep your sugar level down. Even just walking daily will help.
But, first things first. See the docs, ask if him/her what the best way is for YOU to control your sugar, and go from there.
In most cases you can eat SOME refined sugar and consume SOME alcohol, etc., as long as it's in moderation. Again, consult the proper people for your particular situation.
Oh, one more thing. Go to your local book store and scope out the cookbooks for diabetics. There are some great recipes in them but be forewarned-some of them have high sodium levels in their meals. That's a bummer for me because I have to do low sodium as well.

RE: Sell or trade in

Agree with SkipnChar. There's a couple of reasons why we trade rather than sell. Dealer inherits any liability (even if unit is in excellent condition you know how people can be) and no strangers coming to our house. We do sell outright if we aren't getting a new model but I'm not that comfortable with it.

RE: Just for fun, boxer's morning ritual

Boxers are the greatest! Hubby grew up with them and the only reason why his mom doesn't have them anymore is she just can't handle big dogs at her age.
