RE: Verizon kills unlimited data plans for existing subscribers

I'm pretty sure that Verizon, like AT&T, intended the unlimited data plans to be used with aircards on ONE computer. With the advent of aircard routers, PDAnet, etc., folks started to share or TETHER their aircards to other computers. This caused an unintended increase in data use. To counter this trend they came up with a seperate 5G Tether plan. I had to give up my grandfathered unlimited for the new tether plan.....IF I wanted to continue to tether. Anything over 5G is billed at $10.00 per gig. Fairly reasonable. P.S. They claim they can detect tethering and I kind of believe them. You pretty much sum it up, .. one thing to remember though is they offered 3G Mi-Fi's long before 4G, so they were well aware of the bandwidth issues when they did. For now the AirCard and Mi-Fi accounts can be billed and accounted for separately (like another cell phone/number), ... but, add Hotspot and Tethering to the mix and it becomes a game changer. For now I have Aircard 3G, Hotspot 4G, and Smartphone (unlimited) data plans, ... I have no idea how long I can keep this up before my banker starts looking for me. After reading the latest changes, it appears it won't be my call, they'll chose for me. It's just a matter of time before the plans offered will be out of my price range. Somewhere along the line I need to buy groceries too.

RE: Verizon kills unlimited data plans for existing subscribers

Tom, .. this is the quote that started my line of thinking (top of the PCMag page) "At an investor conference, an exec says the carrier is killing the plan for "grandfathered" customers and will force existing and new customers to sign up for a tiered "data share" plan on its 4G LTE network." The way it's worded it led me to believe as an existing customer I would be forced into a 4G plan. It seemed fairly definitive to me, but the rest of the article also seems to add conflicting verbiage. I guess we'll know for sure this summer, ...

RE: Verizon kills unlimited data plans for existing subscribers

This appears to affect smartphone plans only. Is this right? The OP's linked article indicates this, and talks about the current, $30/mo unlimited plan. Aircard plans are $60.True, .. to a point. My "unlimited" aircard plan is $34.00 mo (commercial & no longer available). The aircard plan is a data plan, granted it's 3G, but still a data plan.

RE: Verizon kills unlimited data plans for existing subscribers

Tom, .. "forked tongues" was intended as a slam to Verizon for telling me from the very beginning the data plan used for my air card as "unlimited forever". I opened that account in 2006 and have kept it only because they reassured me many times it would remain unlimited. I know they changed the language in data plans with a disclaimer of changing it sometime in the future, .. but that was well after I started the plan an was guaranteed grandfather status. I'm well aware how nothing stays the same and virtually nothing can last forever, ... and I'll go with the flow. It's just that it's difficult to believe anything a carrier tells us anymore. Added to this they seem to make as many changes on the fly as they like and we just have to choke them down, .. like it or not. I'm only hoping what I sign up for lasts the term of my contract. Will I keep them? Sure I will, and like you I won't like it. I also have a Verizon (3G) air card and I am grandfathered into an unlimited plan. As long as I stay with the 3G card and Verizon keeps me on an unlimited plan, I don't see that they have mislead me. I saw nothing in their announcement that say grandfathered accounts would be changed, while they still kept their 3G cards. It did say that, when they migrate to 4G, they will lose their grandfathered status. That doesn't break their "promise" to me, they never promised me a 4G unlimited plan. TomI'll go back and re-read the announcement. At first blush it appeared they are moving everyone from the 3G plan to 4G. That's part of what hit a nerve with me. Thanks for pointing this out. It's almost to the point we need a legal staff to interpret the everyday changes. :) :) I sure do enjoy being connected, but it sure is hard to keep up with daily announcements and how we as individuals are effected.

RE: Verizon Data- Problem or Scam

When I monitor my data usage there always seems to be a 24 hr lag in record posting. Example - I check data used before I stream, then monitor when the data used is posted, ... It shows up 24 hrs later. I have now idea how accurate or current the data base is. That has been my experience.

RE: Onan generator shuts off after 25 min of running

Fuel tank could be low enough the fuel pickup is right at the low fuel point. Also, check the oil level, .. it has a low oil shut off.

RE: Satellite Fee's from Direct TV, city to city free

Thanks for the info. Do you think Dish will believe me if I tell them I put all five receivers in the moho? :BLOL, ... thats what I was thinking. I have six boxes (3 of them HD DVR's). Only two in the coach. I wish I had the kind of rig that would need that many. :B

RE: $ 1.79 florescent light repair

Thanks for bringing back memories of doing this kind of stuff. I'm so used to potted boards I don't even look anymore, .. I just replace things. It looks like I should take the blinders off and start looking at what I can repair vs replace. :)

RE: Price to install Dingy lighting and baseplate

It took almost 8 hrs to do mine, other vehicles will vary. The labor rate will dictate the cost and what you have is close to the norm around here for the average install. The labor rate for mine was $80 per hour, and the rate has gone up since I had it done. Most baseplates require the removal of the front fascia of the vehicle and some possible frame modifications. None of it is hard, but it's a slow process that drives up the cost at $80+ per hour. Same for the wiring, not hard, but takes time. To me the quote looks to be reasonable.

RE: Price to install Dingy lighting and baseplate

Is that labor, .. the baseplate, or both? I was charged that much for just the labor for installing the baseplate and electrical (lights & pigtail connectors) If it's everything it's a pure steal.!!

RE: Has anyone used - Electric Tow Hitch

I haven't used it, but have seen the video before. My concern would be the front tires of the towd, .. they are just a few inches above the pavement. I wonder how much if any the tires would contact the pavement when hitting those dips in the hwy at 60 MPH. The hitch is far enough behind the rear tires of the MH there would be a significant vertical movement of the towd I would think.

RE: Magnum MS2812 inverter/charger

Try unpluging the cord to the control panel. It's posible the control panel needs rebooting, not the inverter. If the control panel has gone out of sync, it will send false instructions to the inverter even though the inverter itself has been reset. It's sure worth a try, ...

RE: Magnum MS2812 inverter/charger

Every so often (but rare) my Magnum panel acts up and does some pretty weird stuff, .. similar to yours.. I unplug the panel connector from the inverter (looks like a phone cord jack), and plug it back in. This essentially reboots the control panel and everything then settles down and works as normal. Have you tried rebooting the control panel?
