RE: VA 2 DC. I95 vs 301?

We took I95 north from Williansburg to NJ back in 2005 and got stuck in a very bad traffic jam going around DC. Since then we have used 17 from Yorktown to 301 twice. 301 is mostly a divided highway through nice farm country. Easy drive with little traffic except for some areas of malls and traffic lights east of DC.

RE: Ideas to get dog to stop digging under fence & out of yard?

Beside the above...maybe lay down chicken wire fencing ..half laying on the ground and half bent and stapled to the fence..
They can't dig through it and grass can still survive and you can mow over the top of it.
We did this with a previous dog. After awhile she stopped digging and we easily removed the wire. It is inexpensive and comes in all size rolls...HomeDepot, etc.
I did this in a new backyard before I had put down sod. Stapled it to the wood fence then laid the sod on top of it. Good luck.
Jeff :)
I did something similar to keep groundhogs from digging under our vegetable garden fence. I added some fencing that goes down into the ground and is bent outward for about 6 inches. When the groundhog digs down to the buried fence, he can't dig down any further and gives up at that spot and tries another place further along the fence. After a few tries he gives up completely. Groundhogs apparently aren't smart enough to back up a bit and try digging down further from the base of the fence.

RE: Tulsa RV Park

We spent a night at the Claremore KOA back in 2009. Actually, it was listed in the KOA directory, but we never found a KOA sign. The campground turned out to be FHU sites set up in the Cherokee Casino parking lot. Price back then was only $20. The neat thing was that we we were able to watch the race horses being exercised while we ate breakfast in the MH.

RE: Red Mas Pro and BKF on decals???

My 24 ft MH took less than 1/2 gallon. 3 coats on the passenger side and 4 coats for the rest. I didn't do the roof. This stuff goes a long way.

RE: Best NP

Arches is good, Bryce and Canyonlands are WOW, Yellowstone is great, Glacier is beautiful, but our favorite is Grand Teton, especially in June when the peaks are snow capped. We just never get tired of those mountains.

RE: BornFree ValVec Mirrors

Had the same thing happen with the passenger side mirror on our Minnie. I bought the new one from Ryder Fleet Products.
If you decide to buy a new mirror, don't throw out the old one before you install the new. My new mirror didn't come with the wiring connector and I had to use the connector from the old one and solder the wires to the connector. I took pictures showing how I got the door trim panel off and connected the wires, so if you want to see them, send me a PM.
I doubt that you can fix the old mirror pivot. That's a heavy duty spring they have in there.

RE: rodent control with bounce sheets?

We have been using nothing in our MH for 9 years and have had no issues with mice. I did crawl around underneath and seal up all small opening I could find as soon as we got the MH home from the dealer.

RE: Camping out west

There is only one campground inside Yellowstone with hookups - Fishing Bridge. There are a number of private RV Parks in West Yellowstone with hookups. Also Colter Bay RV Park in Grand Teton NP has hookups. Don't miss the Tetons! There are no campgrounds inside Glacier NP with hookups. There are private campgrounds with hookups on both the east and west sides of Glacier NP.
For specific information on camping in the national parks, do a google search for "park name camping" (without the quotes). For example - Yellowstone Camping.
If you want to save $$, you need to learn to camp without hookups at least some of the time.

RE: Red Mas Pro and BKF on decals???

My post from yesterday showing results of using RMP (actually I used the ZEP equivalent).
I used the BKF and scrubbie on the decals, cautiously at first, and it did not cause any damage. The decals looked chalky before using BKF and cleaned up nicely. The first coat of the ZEP brought out a beautiful deep color to the decals.
I found that the ZEP came out streaky when applied to the side in the direct sun, so I turned the MH around so I could apply it on the shady side.
The results are amazing!

RE: Satellite antenna

For a number of years we carried a portable satellite dish for DirecTV. We are usually out sightseeing every day and move often to a new campground, so the frequent set up and packing of the antenna got to be a PITA. Two years ago I installed a Winegard crank up antenna on the roof, which eliminated the set up/packing issue and freed up some basement storage space. I find it easier to aim at the satellite with the roof top antenna. This antenna doesn't receive high definition channels (neither did our old portable dish). As already mentioned, trees can be more of an issue with a fixed location antenna, vs. a portable, but we don't travel so we can watch TV.

RE: Keeping the Fridge cold??

One other consideration is that a refrigerator or freezer that is full of "stuff" will warm up a lot slower than a refrigerator or freezer that is nearly empty. All of that "stuff" is a reservoir of cold mass that will take time to get warmer.
If you decide not to drive with the refrigerator on, don't take ice cream with you. It melts at about 5 degrees F.

RE: Suburban Water Heater Clicking w/fireball from exhaust???

first thing I would check is your heating tube for cobwebs, wasp nests, flaking off corrosion, blow it out and see if it works better
X2 - I had big yellow flames coming out the air inlet slots on the burner tube a few years ago. Really scary experience! Found that a spider had built a web in the burner tube right at the elbow.

Our Motorhome is Shiny Again!!

After reading various threads over the past year or so about people using Red Max Pro and comparing their pictures with the dull and chalky sides of our Class C, I decided to bite the bullet to see if I could get that new look back again. I printed the procedure from this thread and bought the materials and did the job last week. Since the motorhome hadn't been waxed for several years, I skipped the TSP rinse as unnecessary extra work. I also used the ZEP Wet Look Floor Finish, as Red Max Pro wasn't available. It was quite a bit of work to wash and then use the scrubbie and Bar Keepers Friend to get the sides really clean. After that, applying the ZEP was easy. I stopped with three coats on the passenger side as that side faces north when parked in the driveway and still had a little of the original shine left. The Driver's side, cabover and back got four coats. I used less than 1/2 a gallon of the ZEP. That stuff goes a long way.
The final result is amazing! The fiberglass walls shine like they have been clear coated. The decals have a beautiful deep color that they haven't had for years.
I didn't take and "before" pictures, but here are some "after" shots.

RE: Old Wineguard crank up

The Winegard crank up dish we have for DirecTV has motion for elevation and azimuth. I believe that Dish also requires an adjustment for skew, which isn't available on the crank up.
A call to Winegard customer service would be your best source of information.

RE: New to this, very excited !!

DO NOT try to run the good looking rig with tat tiny orange extension cord!
Its just charging the batts. Why? What would it do?
The extension cord should handle everything except for the air conditioner, microwave and electric water heater. Any of those should pop the breaker in the house.
Have Fun! You will get used to driving a wide vehicle on no time at all.

RE: need information

Route 287 from Rawlins up to its junction with route 26 north of Lander is an easy drive through somewhat desolate country. Route 26 gradually climbs to the Togwotee Pass at about 9,000 feet and then descends gradually down to about 6,500 feet at Moran Junction. To get to West Yellowstone from there requires driving through Yellowstone, crossing the continental divide twice between West Thumb and Old Faithful. From there it's pretty much level to West Yellowstone. No switchbacks or steep grades on the entire route.
As a heads up, we found grocery shopping in West Yellowstone to be rather limited. You might want to stock up at the Safeway Supermarket in Lander, which is on 287 near the northern end of town.

RE: Private campgrounds near Yellowstone, Tetons, and Glacier

Grizzly RV Park in West Yellowstone. A short walk into town. About 2 blocks from the West entrance to Yellowstone.
West Yellowstone KOA About 7 miles from the Park entrance.
Yellowstone Park Camping
Colter Bay RV Park in Grand Teton NP. Also Colter Bay campground for a lower price with no hookups.
Our favorite for the Tetons is Gros Ventre campground at the southern end of the Tetons. We plan to be there in June.
Virginian RV Park in the town of Jackson. Basically an RV parking lot and expensive, but near the rodeo grounds.
St. Mary KOA on the East side of Glacier. Nice location.
We also liked the National Park campgrounds at Many Glacier and Apgar.
