RE: Do you make everybody buckle up in your class A?

I firmly believe in safety on the road so my wife stays buckled up at all times except when she is cleaning the RV, Cooking, or fetching me a beer.:B

RE: Another Deadliest Catch thought...

The first season they had to compete for a share of the Crab, now that was exciting.
Now they just compete for television rights and drama to some extent, but it is still crab fishing on the Bering Sea.
Its still an exciting show but just not the same as that first season.
The oldest of Phil's sons will come through, Jake is a loser tho.
The thing is all of them are making more money for the TV rights than they do fishing for Crab.

RE: Newbie here-what is too big for us?

I have a 36 and find it is perfect for me. I like to boondock and often stay at a friends house in his driveway.
At anything over that you are much more limited as to where you can park and places you can comfortably pull into.
I think with two kids that you need the extra room of a 34 to 36' and you should consider at least two slides.
But thats just my opinion. I have had a 40', a 34' and now drive a 36' which of the three is my favorite.

RE: What is your pass to get passed ration

I drive the posted Truck Speed Limit unless for some reason I need to go slower. Wind, Traffic, Blood Alchol level, etc.
What I want to know is who was the brilliant mind that decided that when having tons of steel hurling down a narrow path it is a good idea to have them all traveling at different speeds.

RE: What's everybody use their generator for?

Never thought of it in that manner but I guess what I use it for is Air conditioning while on the road or parked without access to shore power.
I also try to run it when using the Microwaive or anything that has a high amp draw.
Everything else has to do with using it as a battery charger so I have full batteries to run the inverter. Its just 120V AC power to use or store in the batteries.

RE: Easily installed Generator Auto-start

Love mine, it saves a bunch by letting you shut down and run on the inverter then it comes on when needed. Especially useful at night in cold weather. You don't have to run the gen all night you just let it come on when needed to charge batteries.
Same with summer heat, you can set it for any temp you want and it will come on automatically so the AC can run.
I boondock alot and would not be without one.
Friend had a Rv sitting at a park in South Texas on the coast. Power went out when he was away for a week. There were fish in the freezer!!! nasty.
I did have to move the remote from the back to the front of the coach so it would not loose communication with the Gen Set. And you have to remember to set it to auto, when you move it shuts off as a safety feature.
I found the best price at PPL Motor Homes in Houston.

RE: Do anything dumb lately? That you'll admit to?

When I dumped at the last place I replaced the cap but did not close the valve on the black tank. I hate it when I have a senior moment.

RE: LED Lights ??

I replaced some of the bulbs in my coach but not all of them. That way I can use what I want. If I want to save amps I use the LED's if I want alot of light I use the overhead Flourescents.
I am glad to be rid of the old 1156 bulbs and the overhead spots because they generated so much heat they would melt the light covers if left on too long.
I also replaced the porch light with an LED so if it gets left on by accident all night long it does not use much battery.

RE: Diesel Skyrocketing Prices

I know how to bring down the price of Diesel. All I have to do is go fill up today and they will start down tomorrow.
I think I will just eat worms for lunch.

RE: What did you do to your Class A MH today???

With record sub zero weather and my refusal to run winterized I have had some projects here are a few I have been working on this weekend.
Re routed Toilet lines due to broken ball valve and no replacement available. Will put them back when I get the Thetford valve but meanwhile I have a 1/2" ball valve mounted to the wall (velcro) beside the toilet for manual operation.
Removed Accumulator Tank as it was positioned badly in uninsulated bottom water compartment and was prone to freezing. Re ran all Fresh water lines to get them out of bottom compartment and up in higher compartment where it is warmer. Water seems to run fine without accumulator, no line hammer at all. Will get a new pump soon.
Added 120v recepticle to water compartment with a thermo outlet to turn on power to a light bulb or ceramic heater when temp gets to 35 deg. Also have a heat tape on pump and most lines as backup.
Insulated bottom water compartment.
Replaced broken cargo door hinge.
Replaced most light bulbs inside coach with LED.

RE: Do anything dumb lately? That you'll admit to?

Power went out yesterday and the pipes froze before I found it. Nothing major nothing broken at the time. I reset the breaker that had caused the problem and started the heater to thaw things out.
The dumb think i did was to try to flush the toilet before letting the pipes totally thaw. I learned that there is a plastic valve that controls the water when you flush and it is very fragile. (Aurora)
Had to remove the Toilet. Found the problem and also found that the local RV store was out of replacement valves.

RE: Rest Area Safety

When traveling its my favorite place to stay.
During the day we get out take the dog for a walk, visit with people and don't really worry too much. At night we lock things up and keep to ourselves.
Burgulars don't want to break in to a home where they know someone is there and quite possibly armed.
If you are going to open your door to a stranger in the middle of the night then its probally not safe for you to stay in a rest area.
If someone asks you for help, help them by calling the police.
If you see a drunk, or a gang, or a drunken gang, lock the door and drive off.
I especially like rest areas on Turnpikes or toll roads, no thief or mugger wants to operate on a closed road with limited access and security at every access point.

If you cant fix it with that you will be going to Lowes or Autozone anyway.

RE: Need Advice

Biggest problem I have noticed with someone not used to driving a Motorhome is they have a hard time keeping close to the center line. They tend to hug the right side of the road/lane. Use your mirrors to see where your rig is in relationship to the white line.
Dean has the right idea in the post above, I used to use one of my dogs stuffed animals and set it on the dash for my wife to use as a marker.
If you hear the BZZZZZZ of the wake up bumps you are too far right.
Also take your time changing lanes. Signal, Look, look again, move over slowly. I make my wife take 6 to 8 seconds to change lanes. This gives anyone in your blind spot time to react. Also is will discourage people from trying to cut you off. The intimidation factor in a Motor Home is huge.
