RE: RV Tax Fulton County Georgia

You do not want to register any vehicle of value in Fulton County. Got to pay for the crooked politicians that run that place somehow.

RE: St. Joseph Peninsula ...

I have not been since 2007. I miss that place and cannot wait to go again, favorite site no 32. We did not worry about the bugs, spray the site with Cutter Bug Free Backyard using the hose end sprayer, a box fan or two under the awning and life was great. I would sit under the awning until the late hours of the night listening to the sound of the waves and just be happy that I was there.
We were on the beach on a moonlit night around midnight and watched a sea turtle come up and lay eggs, that was a wonderful experience that very few people get to see or appreciate.
Every year we would go around the first of June and during that time the area would be in a drought with a campfire ban but it would always rain while we were there and that would be the end of the ban. The last trip there we took the park rangers a rain guage and told them not to sweat it, the rain would happen that week and it did.
Post some pictures after your trip, I would love to see them.

RE: Wilson RV Cell Phone Booster

I bought a Wilson #801212 Dual-Band system. I use it for both my cell phone and my air card at the same time. It doesn't connect to either one. I lay the inside antenna on the desk next to the aircard and the phone, and use a bluetooth with the phone.
They also have models with an inside antenna that will re-broadcast to several phones over a larger area.
My external antenna is on a temporary mast to get it above the roof of my TT, but I've also simply stuck it on the rear bumper. It does an excellent job of bringing in poor signals. I also use it in the car, at the hunting camp, and I've used it in hotels with poor wifi.
Keep in mind that it won't 'create' a good signal where one doesn't exist. Also, I've seen cases where the number of bars is improved but the internet speed is still unuseably slow. I assume in this case the tower does not have a good internet connection.
X2, without it plugged in I drop calls, with it I keep them connected.
It helps with my 3G Mi-fi and now that I have the new Droid 4, with 4G, I can connect with it and I do have the 4G flashing as I am using it to be connected right now.

RE: Heater A/C Fan inoperative

Look behind the hood, there is a relay/fuse box about the size of a cigar box, made from black plastic and on top will read fuses and relays.
The fan relay may have quit, I had it happen on my f250 and my neighbor has a Winnebago on a Ford chassis and his did the same, I happened to have a spare relay, we installed it and all was fine.
Your chassis manual should tell you which relay it is, and these can be bought at any discount auto parts store, if it failed once it could fail again so get two, that way you always have a spare. The cost is less than 10 bucks each.
We both now keep a spare in the glove box.
Hope this helps.

RE: Is my refridge done?

The one's that I have seen that have failed due to leak have a yellow powdery residue that settles at the base after it leaks. I wonder if that yellow on there is something else. I would take it in to the dealer and have them check it and at least get some documentation that there is a problem should it fail later, also the dealer may determine that failure is coming and go ahead and get a replacement for you.
That could even be leftover residue from when it was charged for the first time.
On my parent's motorhome the Dometic failed and the bottom is covered with a dull/flat yellow powder residue that is not as bright of a yellow as what you have in the picture.

RE: Painting TT wheels, tips?

Just before I replaced my tires 2 years ago, I took them off one at a time, sanded them and laid flat on the ground and brushed on multiple coats of oil based Rustoleum white paint. I was planning to replace the tires so I did not have to worry about getting any on the stems or the old tires. While off mine has chrome center caps, they had some rust spots but Turtle Wax chrome polish took care of that. You have to look close to see any brush marks and at around 5 dollars for paint, sandpaper and some foam brushes it beat the cost of new wheels.

RE: Leaving home for long time

While I haven't gone longer than 2 weeks yet, I have done some research and have found these checklist items:
1. Turn off water heater at the breaker.
2. Turn off water outside and let pressure off of house pipes. Afterwards, make sure faucets are turned off.
3. Turn off HVAC and all other breakers except for outlets where timers controlling lights, TV, or radio are used.
4. Put vegetable oil in all sinks, tubs, and toilets. Prevents evaporation of water which will allow sewer gasses into the house.
5. Lock garage and ensure breaker is off. Garage door openers are often generic.
6. Empty refrigerator and freezer and unplug. Could take a chance on food spoiling with outage...judgement call.
7. Unplug appliances.
8. Arrange for lawn care.
9. Humidifier running on a timer from time-to-time will prevent mold issues although most don't feel necessary.
10. Put fresh batteries in smoke detectors if needed.
11. Have someone check house, water plants, and pick up mail every day or two. Give them a key.
All of the above, plus here on the coast with the humidity, in the summer have the a/c set to the highest setting with all blinds/drapes shut. If not practical to empty fridge or freezer, put ice cubes in ziplock bags to make sure nothing was off long enough to thaw.

RE: Refrigerator not cooling

I had the same problem in my last unit, the fridge was a 95 model Dometic, I would have a few days of everything fine and a few days of not enough cold in the bottom compartment. I kept playing with the connection to the control board and that would make the check light go out and work fine for a little time. I kept reading online and changed the control board to one from Dinosaur Electronics and the problem went away, the original Dometic board was failing but not all the time (and yes the current owner of the trailer is still using it). Not sure if this helps you but thought I would throw it out there.
Unless you smell ammonia or see a yellow dusty residue in the back compartment your issue is most likely a control board or an issue with blockage most likely caused by out of level operation.

RE: JAYCO TOTAL DISMANTLE

Use the trailer all season, send it back this winter, whatever you get back should be better than what you have now. You may very well be pleased and surprised by what you get back, the worst case is that it comes back like you left it.
Give them a chance to make it right, at least they are trying. I wish every company I did business with operated like that.

RE: About to re-finish my Front Cap – 2 questions for the pros

Put them on before the RMP, let them cure for a few weeks to stick properly.
Then cover with blue painters tape prior to the application of RMP, as soon as the last coat is tacky CAREFULLY remove the blue tape.
You may need to do a little detail work with a sharp exacto knife while taping, simply tape them as if you were masking them off for paint. I used to paint cars as a hobby and for extra money, if a car had a decal that was too expensive to replace on an older car, or was in good shape, we taped them off as we sprayed the base coat, then shot the clear coat over them.
Let us know what you do and how it works. I am getting ready to do my entire trailer in the next couple of weeks, my decals are original and in good shape so I am going to apply right over them.

RE: fifth wheel hitch compatible?

The rails that fit in the bed of the truck work for Chevy or Ford if they are of the Reese style. The "L" brackets underneath the box will be in different places for each make of truck. You can find the installations instructions on Reeses' website. For the GM product, the hitch is centered over the rear axle. For the Ford it is a couple of inches in front of the axle. Reese also sell a no drill bracket for the Ford. I'm not sure about the GM.
x2, mine was used twice and came from a GM truck, I used the supplied "L" brackets and reprinted the directions from Reese. Took a couple of friends and myself about 4 hours to complete.
I looked into spending the money for the no drill brackets but skipped it.

Go buy lottery tickets while this run of good luck is with you.

x3, and after cleaning, put them outside on a warm sunny day to dry, it will air them out and make them smell a little fresher.

RE: How fast do you tow your 5'er

72-74 by the speedometer, actual 68-70 by the gps, this keeps me from downshifting on small grades, if I see a hill I get a run and unless it is Jellico Mountain I can make it over without downshifting. If on the two lanes, between 55-60.
I am not in a hurry, just have found the speed/feel that the truck does the best at and go with it, using the tach more than the speedo.
I do run LT 10 ply tires, why cheap out on ST tires towing a heavy trailer, the price of the LT tires was actually not that much more.
The sound of the 7.3 diesel lets you know where it is doing it's best, that is what I drive by.

RE: Wt Distr Hitch is not recommended for our vehicle

Unibody construction is what the Pilot is on, most TRUCK based vehicles have body on chassis. That is why Honda says not to use a W/D hitch, the transfer of the weight could tweak the body structure, causing the doors not to seal along with other alignment and handling issues.
Any vehicle on a unibody frame should be sold as VERY light duty utility use only.
I am not one to say you need a Freightliner to tow, but one must understand that unibody vehicles are pretty much for light popups and very small trailers only.

RE: Frame Bent ... HELP -- Need Advice

Might as well have the welder fix it and go on, any further worry about it will not make it better, but will make you feel worse.
We all buy used (and sometimes new)items of some kind during our life that have issues, some worse than others.
Don't let it get you down, fix it and use it up.
Speaking from experience here, made a few mistakes, learned from them and moved on.

RE: How close to home camping?

With so many good state parks within an hours drive of here, I would say none of them are too close to home. It is all about getting away from the house and relaxing. It is nice to get away and not even use 1/4 tank of fuel.

RE: Towing with Suburban 1500

Definitely replace the OEM receiver, and look at the Reese Dual Cam Hitch. I still have our 2002 that I pulled with before the F250.
The days with the round bar OEM receiver and the friction sway bar were not fun at all.

RE: Replacing tires on our RV

Check the date codes. 7 years or over time to go. I hated throwing away the four Wrangler LT 10 ply tires that were on mine but they were 8 years old and I was planning a couple of 1500 mile trips in the middle of summer, these tires did not even show any wear, however I did not want to be beside the interstate somewhere in the TN-KY mountains with a blowout. You have had your trailer 5 years, not sure how long before you bought it the build date was, or how long before that the tires were made. Look on the sidewall for four numbers stamped in the sidewall, example 4706 would indicate the tire was made in the 47th week of year 2006.
I also make it a point when purchasing or ordering new trailer tires to specify that the tires are not older than six months old, since they age out before they wear out. Learned that one the hard way after on the first trailer getting what I thought was a good deal on four out the door that I found out later had sat in the warehouse for 4 years.
