RE: insurance experience

Do you really need to wait until the end of your policy? You should get a prorated refund as soon as you cancel this policy. Or, maybe use this two weeks to find a new company.

RE: Texas Gulf Coast

Besides Bird Island Basin (calm, great view, fairly tight quarters) and Malaquite (a bit more space, close to beach but not on sand, cold water facilities), there is Port Aransas, where you can confidently pull right out onto the sand. Pick a spot near the inlet, where the beach is wide. There is a nominal fee, if you don't mind that, and I think parking is restricted to three days at a time.
Port A is a fun town, that may be pretty sleepy this time of year, now that the Winter Texans are Summer New Mexicans.

RE: How did you start fulltiming?

Sounds pretty sane to me. It took us two years, one entire year of which was living in our driveway in our rig (through a New York State winter - who's crazy?).
You'll load up your RV with "essentials" and then you'll unload half of it again in six months.
Carry on! Good luck!

RE: Northern Idaho Boondocking Spot Offered

This is a very generous offer! You might want to join Boondockers Welcome It's a new network forming for people willing to do just what you're offering.

RE: Potable water fill-up around Cottonwood AZ?

Thanks for these ideas. This time, we went to Rio Verde RV Park, but it wasn't easy and we'll be glad to try something else next time.
We scoped out the Giant station, where there is definitely a dump station, but potable water wasn't in evidence. There is water there, though, in case you don't fill with drinking water.
We parked for a few days on Thousand Trails Road - nice view and very quiet despite being crowded with other people just like us. Our timing was off, because the office for the park down the road is closed on weekends.
2oldman, now THAT is what I call specific. Many thanks - even I can follow those directions.

RE: using UPS mail forwarding

Been using ups since 04. No problems. Renew drivers license and pay taxes using the the ups address. SS sends my info there as well as VA and banking. We do banking on line and bills are set up on line with auto pay. UPS works for us
This is in Arizona, Roln?

RE: using UPS mail forwarding

I'm struggling with the mail forwarding/physical address situation, and I'm wondering if your particular state accepts a UPS mailbox address as your physical address? I guess it's up to the state.
The UPS store will give us a physical address for us to use.
Okay, thanks. The address holds up at the DMV, etc., with everyone being so concerned about us RVers being "real"? I'm sincerely asking, as I'm thinking about domiciling in a state that isn't one of the full-timers' darlings, as you are.

RE: If you just need a few extra $$$

I do very well selling small, lightweight easy to ship items on eBay. Print postage online & drop in the nearest mailbox.

RE: If you just need a few extra $$$

Have you tried a temp service like Manpower? I understand what you mean about longish commitments for lowish pay. I wouldn't mind working for minimum wage if I didn't have to stick around for six months to do it.
Good luck!

RE: Do you domicile in Arizona?

Old Biscuit, appreciate the checklist you provided. Gives me something to work with. Yeah, DL in AZ is good until you're 65 and every five years after (we're in our 40's and early 50's). Eye exam is required every twelve years in-between.
CPD and crcr: good points, and good to know. In the up-front costs, we have to figure a round-trip to SD from wherever we are, unless we can think of other good reasons to stay a while in SD (I'm sure there are lots).
Thanks for the rec, Bronco.

Do you domicile in Arizona?

We have been considering SD, but a number of factors are causing us to think more about Arizona:
:: better and less-expensive health insurance available to us
:: less-frequent DMV check-ins
:: we are far more likely to eventually settle down physically in AZ than in SD
State income tax may one day be a factor, but not a big one, much like our incomes.
Do you use an Arizona mail-forwarding service as a physical address?

Discount Tire in Yuma - four thumbs-up

We were losing air slowly and needed a diagnosis and a fix. It's a busy place, and we did have to wait 1.5 hours. Left without paying anything for a plug and they didn't try to sell us anything. Courteous and pleasant.
Should note that this was for our toad, not the MH.

RE: On the road mail?

General Delivery is often available, and we've had good luck with it. Ask the Post Office in question about their policies. Some have certain GD hours, some allow it for a certain time period, etc. You'll need to show ID.

RE: Repair Issues While On The Road

Try RV Service Reviews. We've had good luck with issues we couldn't solve ourselves.
I can't recall ever hearing something good about service done at Camping World, but then most people don't air their clean laundry. I think I'd save an official RV repair shop for times when I couldn't find anyone else reputable and duct tape has failed. They're almost always going to charge you all the market will bear, and then some.
