First of all, lots of thanks to Nick and Chris for throwing a swell party again. Lynn, Jim, Dave R., Michael, and JaneAnn also deserve many kudos for stepping up once again to help make B9 the success it was.
Secondly, we really appreciate this annual chance to make fools of ourselves and have a good time. We would apologize to anyone who was offended by our loud antics...but, we're from Jersey, ya know.
What wonderful positive energy we've received from all of you as we venture out and try to find Alaska. See you next year!

We've been packing in the rain for two days now. I hope those Canadians are bringing good weather or good whiskey.
Magnumiii--get your rest now before the swarm arrives. We're looking forward to meeting all the new-to-us B Rally people.
Anne--We stayed in Sauder Village after the MN Bee Social. Really would like to go back there.
Mike and Jane--Long time no see. I hope you still have your AZ suntans. :)
Nick--Longer time no see. You and Chris are great for taking on this rally.

We're in the midst of chaos, so that means we're nearing our trip departure date. :) I checked the program and didn't see any Snatcho Bingo time. Are we skipping that game this year?

Wow, what a deluge of great responses. Thanks everyone. I already pay bills online mostly, and I know to stop the papers and mail. Light timers set for varying times--check. It seems that most of you recommend turning off the whole house water and the water heater. I will have someone checking periodically, hopefully once a week. ;) I can't believe I'm driving to Alaska. :B

Leaving home for long time
We're leaving for a 3-month Alaska trip next week. Our home will be checked on periodically, but do you have any suggestions for things to do to keep it safe. I'm debating shutting off the main water valve--are there any cons to doing that? TIA.

Essential repair parts?
We're heading for our 1st trip to Alaska in our 2007 PleasureWay Ford TD (bought new). Since space is at a premium, can I have suggestions for spare parts others would deem difficult to obtain on this 10-week trip? Spare tire properly inflated is a given. Since Alaska has several Ford dealers, do I still need to stock various belts and filters? I'm getting a bit nervous along with the excitement. :)

I sanitized my fresh water system....again. Did it two days ago, but with a nice lavender scented bleach. Then I read in another forum to only use unscented bleach because the others are not disinfectants. Who knew? I must have missed the memo. :)

I couldn't bring myself to watch the video. I volunteer at our local shelter, which does have problems with overcrowding at times and adoptable animals are euthanized. Our group of volunteers works so very hard to prevent that from happening, but I fully understand the pain of the OP. I also agree with fordsuperdooty's comments and appreciate his input. Getting people to stop unnecessary breeding of their pets is my dream goal. I saw a T-shirt on a volunteer once that said: The ten best reasons for spaying or neutering your pet have just been killed at a shelter.

best town for 4th of July
We will be in Alaska for the first time this June and July. Watching Alaska Troopers on TV has made me nervous about spending the 4th in the wrong place (well, if I were 40 years younger and into drunkenness, I might be looking for that kind of place :)). Are there any towns that have, say, fireworks or a parade but not the loud all night partying?

Yesterday I had 4 Bilstein shocks installed in my 2007 PW. I wish I could find a Roadmaster anti-sway bar, but they're on back order from the the company and I'm leaving for Alaska May 15. Not enough time to guarantee delivery and get it installed. The new shocks have made a definite improvement in the ride.

Bilstein steering stabilizer
I've decided to have a steering stabilizer installed on my 2007 Ford Excel PW. My Ford dealer cannot comply with the Ford steering damper suggested by PW. Them's the facts. No discussion needed. :) Does anyone have an opinion on the Bilstein steering stabilizer?

No wonder so few people seem to be willing to take risks to stand up for what's right when even OBVIOUS Good Samaritans like this woman are eyed suspiciously for not obeying her manager/supervisor. Sometimes quick decisions cannot allow for following the chain of command. Follow-up stories in diverse media such as Fox News and the LA Times have reported apologies were offered to her (along with getting her job back), and the parent company has made a large donation to the Nevada Humane Society.
Even if the owner WOULD have "nursed" the dog back to health, this woman with conscience prevented the dog's probable death during the flight. If she erred, it was on the side of compassion. That's good enough facts for me. But I have to accept that others' opinions obviously differ.

I'll try driving tomorrow and check battery charge again. And I double checked that the red key for disengaging the battery was properly in place, in case anyone was thinking that. :)
