RE: dmax fuel economy problem

A Duramax is very finicky about the fuel filters. I have seen it on mine and several others. The filter doesn't have to be totally fouled before fuel mileage drops off and you still won't get the P1093 code. You will start noticing mileage and power loss when towing but that is about it.

RE: dmax fuel economy problem

Would a dirty or clogged fuel filter affect fuel mileage negatively or just make the engine run rough? It has been about a year since it was changed.
Yes a dirty fuel filter WILL affect fuel economy and if it's not fouled too bad you won't really notice a loss of power, just a loss of fuel economy.

RE: dmax fuel economy problem

When is the last time the fuel filter was changed?
On a Duramax or any diesel for that matter, the fuel filter is always the first thing you want to change even if it was recently changed. One bad tank of fuel will foul a new filter.
I have cut open ever fuel filter I ever changed on my truck and you would be surprised how quickly they can get dirty.

RE: Kyle Busch parked for the the weekend

What Kyle Bush did was intentional and in my opinion he should be banned for more than just this weekend. Anyone else working a "job" that does something like that should and would be fired. He violated what in any other industry is a life critical rule violation that could have resulted in serious injuries or death.

RE: Truck Tire Pressure

Run 80 PSI in the rear, if you don't, you may over heat the rear tires when towing and have a tire failure. I did this once only running 60 PSI in the rear and had a tire that the threads shifted and had to replace it.

RE: Homeowners insurance and deductibles

For Hurricane Gustav, our deductible was over $10,000. Been that way for a while in South Louisiana...

RE: The term "dog owner" tickles me

When we hook up to the 5er our dog starts going nuts and doesn't even want us going out to load it without him thinking we might leave without him. He loves to go camping.

RE: Air Bag Install Question

when I had my Superduty, I just mounted the filler valves in the rear liscense plate holes, no drilling. ditto on having 2 valves.
I may be late responding but I did the same thing. Use the license plate bolt holes...

RE: Generator sales have gone through the roof.

Several months ago I installed a 20KW whole house NG generator with the auto transfer switch mainly for my wife because I'm gone for 28 days at a time working. The first month it was installed, it was needed 4 times due to power outages with one lasting 10 hours. She said it was nice having A/C and all power. She didn't even realize when the power came back on and the generator shut off. Oh yeah, I also have a Yamaha 3000 for the RV.

RE: Chevy with bad piston-- It's ALIVE!!!

If you do decide to just replace that piston you need to hone that cylinder for the new rings to seat properly, even with the hash marks still in the cyl. wall.

RE: SURGE PROTECTION

I have the Progressive 50 amp hard wired with monitor and it DOES cut off on low voltage and protects from surges. It shut off the power this past weekend due to a low voltage situation in the heat of the day. If I decide to take a chance, I can turn off the surge protector from the monitor but that's not why I installed it.
