RE: should i get an 18" or 24" electric tongue jack?

I went 18" for the mere fact I tow a golf cart and have to leave my tailgate propped open so the extra 6" height of the 24" would have been problematic. No problem putting some lynx levelers with a 6x6x6 on top. I prefer to keep the shaft length short anyways. Just seems stressful to see a long extended shaft holding up the tongue. Did I just write that :D

RE: Electric tongue jack mod

Star washers are used to keep the bolts or nuts from loosening up from vibrations; putting them between the jack plate and the trailer plate does nothing but raise the jack by the thickness of the washer. The correct placement of the star washers is under the head of the bolts. The nut I suspect is a self locking nut (a plastic "washer" built into the top of the nut) so it doesn't need a star washer. If the nut isn't a self locking nut it should also have a star washer. BTW, split washers (washers with a cut in them where the ends slightly bent outward serve the same purpose. The instructions that came with my Barker 3000VIP shows the star washer being placed between the flange on the Barker and the tongue, itself. You are correct. My instructions said the same so my serrated washer is between the flange and the tounge. The pics posted here are wrong. How can you get a ground with the serrated washer on top the flange :?

RE: Newbie need advise for the length of TT

We went from a 29'TT and Expedition to a 33' 10" TT and F-250 Crew Cab. Total length is 55'. No issues for us.

RE: Covering your Power Tongue Jack

Hello, I read a forum where someone used a bucket to cover the head of their power tongue jack. It also had a way to mount the Tow Chains in the same bucket, to protect the hooks & hold the bucket down. Just courious if anyone has done this and if so, would you please post a picture of what that setup looks like and what you used to mount the chains etc. Thanks, Joe I just installed a new Barker 3500 VIP yestereday. I ordered direct from Barker and they threw in 2 covers for free. I did notice a little condensation in the light cap on the old jack which I never covered. I'll use the cover when not towing.

RE: Sweet! Just installed a new electric jack

My black Barker 3500 VIP with cover just came via UPS today. Will install next week when I pick the TT up for a weekend jaunt.

RE: Tilting television mount

We have the same issue. We put 1/2 inch spacers on the top two of the four screws that attached to the monitor, thus shifting the TV downwards. There are also mounts that you can adjust tilt with. X2. I did the same thing ths second day we had our TT and noticed the angle was not enough. Popped over to the local Lowes and bought 2 longer screws and 1/2" or 3/4" plastic spacers that slide over the screw. Have a perfect viewing angle for under $1 invested. No need to buy a new mount.

RE: Electric tongue jack mod

My electric jack does not have a connection directly to the battery at all. I have 1 red wire with built in fuse coming off the jack and connected via wire connector to another red wire that runs to some sort of junction box. I guess this just keeps a lot of wires from being hooked up directly to the battery.

RE: Myrtle Beach SC

OL is where we love to go and even my wife yesterday said she can't wait to go back in July. If OL had the same size beach that MBTP has then it would be 110% perfect. However, we have had no problem getting space on the beach. Just get there early and set up your chairs and umbrealla before everyone else. Early bird gets the worm.

RE: I 81 - Near Lexington KOA or Jellystone?

The new campground is called Whispering Pines at Douthat. We were there over the weekend. We have a 34' TT. This campground is very big rig friendly. There is not a small site in the campground except maybe one and that is only b/c the driveway to back into it is long. You would have no problem getting in or out. It is a nice flat campground wiht new bathhouse. Perfect for the kids to bike in and the playground is about 100 yds past the campground which is great since you don't need to drive to it.

Barker VIP's and yellowing

The stock Lippert(Stromberg Carlson) went caput on my new TT last year and they sent a replacement under warranty. Ive used it about 5 times and it appears it may be about to break. Seems the gears just can't handle the stress of WD bars when you need to get the jack pretty high. Since I am now out of warranty I just want to buy a jack that I won't have to worry about. Was looking at the Barker 3500 VIP but also thinking the Super High Deluxe with ball bearings and auto shut off might be a better option. My servicing dealer sells a lot of the new Husky Brutes that are 4500 and have ball bearings. Much cheaper than the Super High Deluxe Barker. He also said he liked the Atwoods. His comment on the Barker was the white yellows pretty quickly and it just looks bad after short order. Anyone care to comment. I like the swivel motor feature on the Barker as this can help with turns when I carry the golf cart in the bed and can only get the tailgate up a little more than half-way. tks

RE: Jellystone Park, Natural Bridge VA.

We go in Ocotober there for the Halloween festivities. It is a nice CG but they nickle and dime you for so many things that a weekend can get quite expensive if you do it all.

RE: Are surge protectors necessary?

We use one but not the cheap $100 ones. We have the one from CW that is over $200 for the 30a. Worth the peace of mind to me.
