RE: Planning vacation near Dollywood TN - Aug 20th

Check this campground out http://www.bearcovevillage.com/request.aspx?content=default
Closer to Dollywood, which means not dealing with crazy traffic, can leave to go back to campground and return if you want, save money on food cost. Just my 02.

RE: confused about topsail NC and surf city??

I was at Topsail Sound RV Park a couple weeks ago. It is extremely clean, well ran and they are in expansion mode. From Campground to sitting on the beach is about 20 minutes. From the gate to the fishing pier on the sound is about a 5 minute walk. Nice place.

RE: Replacing the sofa

I agree with the Sams Club post. We are looking at replacing Couch with a very nice futon from Sams. If you are close you can ship site to store for free. We have looked at them in the store and they are good quality and very comfortable.

RE: Is that all there is????

A lot of it has to to with the time of year. A lot of northern parks are closed for the winter and traffic for workamper jobs usually picks up after the new year rolls around. One thing that is an issue is the number of people that are being forced into workamping. We have seen and talked to lots of campers that due to job loss, home loss, and a few other issues are taking workamping jobs to help with living expenses until they can get back on their feet. That also slows down owners posting jobs as well. One thing is dont wait for a posting. Find an area you want to be in and then check out the campgrounds. Drop them an email seeing if they need workampers. If not check the monthly rates and look outside the campground. A lot of other sites; both free and subscription, are available to find workamping jobs.

RE: how we bwcame full timers (very long)

Yes, the glorious stuff. We were there and we have since gotten rid of the Tshirt. The great thing is after almost two years of fulltimig, our stuff seems to continue to shrink. Or at least it seems that way until it's time to move. Glad you made it through the wilderness to the promised land.

RE: Florida campgrounds hurting

Their reputaion has gone down. We had a very bad experience with them and will not return. Somewhere on here some time ago and officer of Morgan was upset that people were putting down his places. As you can see here which was the same then I did not bash. PM from hin, pmed my story, no response. nuff said. I am sure a lot of people are staying put for the winter due to economy and gas prices. Based on the prices I have seen in the popular areas they must not be to worried. Out of the way isolated places will suffer first.

RE: Thinking about living fulltime in RV

We have been fulltime for almost 2 years in our Bighorn and love it. Cold or warm weather. As for coming out, I look at several things. One your house is always with you without leases, moving the stuff, bad neighbors (Cause its easy to move) the freedom you are allowed with the lifestyle is worth a lot. Another thing could work in your favor is if the DW doesnt have a career you may could offset the campground/living expense by her workamping at the campground. Also a lot of bases around the country have military only campgrounds that are very inexpensive but living there would be an issue. Im not sure if you would come out money wise or not but for us the peace of mind that we have knowing we are just a hitch away from anywhere is priceless.

RE: Just tell me how much it costs PLEASE!!!

A lot of business with all types of merchandise is being done online today. Yes dealers get many inquires that are just looking for a price to go to their local dealer with, but if you dont get an answer with in 12 to 14 hours they are not an aggressive dealer. I was in sales and sales management for 15 years and we required our net dept to answer all emails received during business hours within an hour and after hours 10pm to 8am within the first hour of the next business day. Now, I will say that if you repond with that bottom dollar price the first email, 80 are never heard from again. The 20 are what you are really dealing with and about 3 are sold. It depends on how agressive the dealer wants to be. I always figured that if I couldnt get your business and make a little money, I sure wasnt going to let somebody else make any money either. DId very well with that. Now I am on the other side and want the old fashioned customer service that I gave. It is out there if you look long enough, and when I do I really dont mind paying a little more for it.

RE: Workamping Definition

Wiki Says "Workamping, a contraction of "work camping" is a form of RV camping involving singles, couples or families who work part-time or full-time. The people who are Workamping can be called Workampers. Workamper, as defined and copyrighted by Workamper News, Inc., is an adventurous individual who has chosen a wonderful lifestyle that combines ANY kind of part-time or full-time work with RV camping. If you work as an employee, operate a business, or donate your time as a volunteer, AND you sleep in an RV (or on-site housing), you are a Workamper. Workampers generally receive compensation in the form of a free campsite, usually with free utilities (electricity, water, and sewer hookups) and additional wages. Workamping positions can include working at campgrounds, RV resorts, mobile home communities, Christmas tree or pumpkin sales lots, amusement parks, motels/hotels, national parks, state parks, U.S. Army Corps of Engineer locations, national monuments, lighthouses, retail stores, food service, sales and more. Many Workamping positions are filled by couples who can share the labor, though having a partner is not a requirement. Workamping is particularly popular among retirees.
While year round Workamping jobs do exist, the majority of Workamping positions are seasonal—from March/April/May to September/October in northern states or at high altitudes, and during the winter for southern climates, including Florida, Texas and the Southwest."
I think that sums it up pretty well.

RE: Toilet Paper & Black Tank Woes

Check out Happy camper tank treatment. Due to the situation with the tanks, you will need to start with the extreme clean and follow the directions. Then the regular version to keep your tanks in great shape. We have used it for years and would recommend it to everyone. We use household 2 ply tissue. It breaks everything down and no odors.

RE: Where Did you Propose ?

We were talking and I was getting started with the proposal when she got up to go to the ladies room. Wanting to finish what I started, I followed her and finished it there. We laugh about that once in a while. It wasnt her dream proposal either, the place that is, but she still said yes and that was 13 years ago when she made me the happiest man in the world. Still am. No RV then, but now we spend everyday together in the rv.

RE: new workamper prospective

I have one that I am still at that the other day I was informed that my standards were to high and that I worked to hard. I am still scratching my head trying to wrap my feeble brain around that one. Everyone is bragging on the park, they say the golf course has never been in better shape, the restaurant is up in sales. Most BODs would be extremely happy with that, but it goes to show you that not everyone looks at things the same way. My advice is that only the two of you can decide what is best for you. If you are not happy to the point not enjoying life, is the end of season bonus worth the things you are going through. As for me, I just smile, and keep working to hard and maintaining the standards that I set for myself and the resort. When I feel that cant be done and my happinesss is gone, I will move on.

RE: Best Camper Chemical

Happy camper and water are your best bet. We have been using happy camper for the past four years and it works. You may need the extreme clean to get your tanks clean the first time if you have buildup in the black tank but after that just follow the directions. We use 2 ply household TT with no problems. We also use the sewer solution drain hose which is on a 1 inch diameter and yes it has a water jet to push clogs through, but rarely do I have to use it. Happy camper works with no smells.

RE: workamping for younger couples

You are starting out correctly by getting rid of the stix and brix. Now everyone does not look at fulltiming and workamping the same way. You do not say how young you are. We have been fulltime and are in our second year. We knew we wanted the lifestyle and the freedom to move around. The first year my DW stayed in her medical job and I worked in an amusement park just to get our feet steadied, Now we have moved to another state and she is teaching her field of medicine and I am the operations manager at a private campground/golfcourse resort. We have an income that more than pays the bills and have time to see the area. The great thing is when we are ready to move on, we can do just that. Remember fultime is living in your rig 365 and workamping means you work will living in you camper. It is a great adventure.
