RE: Outdoor Kitchen Question

I don't really see how it can be practical, except if it's just for beer and softdrinks. Let's say you buy ground beef because you plan on making hamburgers the next day. You can't be sure what the weather will be ... where do you store the meat, inside or out? And, do you have 2 jars of mustard, 2 of relish, a couple of tomatoes in each fridge, etc? The last time I saw someone use an outdoor kitchen in a campground, he kept running in and out of the TT. When he cooked indoors, he would run out to get something in the outdoor fridge. Seemed quite exhausting! Must have been a first timer, I don't need to run in and out for anything. I can't think of any negatives for having my outdoor kitchen.

RE: 1/2 ton towable???!??

I have a 2009 chevy Z71 with the same specs as your GMC (mine is a Z71 not "just" a 4x4) My trailer is about the same as that one as well weight wise. I think it does a great job of pulling it. I have the 6 speed Trans (i'm assuming yours does as well) which will make a huge difference if you have a 4 speed. People always sees the 3.42 rear end and say it won't pull a trailer, with the 6 speed trans the first 2 gears are lower than if you had a 4.10 with a 4 speed.

RE: Keystone Bullet Premier

While my new Bullet was under warranty last year, I had the same issue on the rear tire passenger side, it was severely leaning in, and the dealer after way too much time replaced it. The service guy mentioned while this normally wasn't a problem in the past, he has been seeing it with the newer Keystone products. Keep in mind however this was Camping World. Interesting as this was my pasenger side also. Mine is ywo months out of warranty. I will be replacing myself as I can do it cheaper than making two trips to my dealer (plus time). I also will be going one size larger. I wonder why the dealerships don't perform an alignment before they see them roll off the lot? Seems like it would be standard operating proceedure if this is such a known issue. My dealership told me they didn't have the equipment to check alignment, I called around to others and none do around here, they all referred me to an axle/wheel shop in Wichita. Mine was the rear passenger as well

plastic chocks/no chocks/tongue jeck wheels

After our storms/tornadoes Saturday night here in Kansas, on Sunday I went out to the temporary storage lot to check on my TT and Enclosed trailer. The tornado passed about 1/4 mile from where they are parked and then a couple hours later another storm came through with some crazy winds. My TT and trailer were fine but on the other side of the little parking lot I saw this... http://i1020.photobucket.com/albums/af329/wayloncle/7fa0e8a2.jpg height=640 One tire was chocked with the plastic chocks and they have a wheel on the tongue jack, in my opinion, not a very smart setup especially when sitting on asphalt in KS (windy) If for whatever reason you have a wheel on the tongue at least chock both sides with good heavy chocks that aren't going to blow away! another shot. http://i1020.photobucket.com/albums/af329/wayloncle/72a10cef.jpg height=640 http://i1020.photobucket.com/albums/af329/wayloncle/adbe4b18.jpg height=640 This boat wasn't chocked at all, it had a jack stand under the front. http://i1020.photobucket.com/albums/af329/wayloncle/7902e6db.jpg height=640 These are reasons I won't park my stuff next to other people, I have my TT and trailer parked along a fence on the other side of the lot. They are paving the lot I normally have it parked at. I'm glad this was the only damage in the lot.

RE: Keystone Bullet Premier

Hey, has anyone else bent an axle? We towed our Premier about 4,000 miles last year with no problems. I noticed the rear tires were tilting in at the top 900 miles into our trip to Florida for spring break. When looking closer, I saw that one tire was showing cord on the inner side.....this could have been a very bad expericane. I changed the tire and made it to the campground. I towed my camper to a truck repair place recommened to me by a RV shop. The axle was bent so back they recommended a replacement which I couldn't do as it was going to take a week to get one (custom made). They were able to bend it back in align but was warned that it wouldn't hold ( was starting to sag as I made it back to Ohio). Will look for a heavier axle (stock 3500lb). My trailer was loaded (but not overloaded) and I don't remember hitting anything.....just my luck... I don't know if mine bent or if it was always like this but, I noticed my rear tires were wearing on the inside and I had to get my axle bent back to alignment. I look at my tires every time I tow it and never noticed any wear at all until I got home from a 500 mile trip and when I put my chocks down I noticed the wearing. I probably had about 5000-6000 miles on it at the time. Same here, I've never had it over loaded or anything, always towed level....

RE: Keystone Bullet Premier

Nice job! Can you post a pic of the inside of the compartments where you attached the drawer slides and stuff? My plan was to do exactly what you have done in both areas, I never got around to doing it last year.

RE: Boliy Generator: 3600SEI..good/ no good.?

I love my Boiley, I haven't run it much this winter so the battery goes down, but at the most 2 pulls on the rope and it fires right up!

RE: iPhone apps for RV-ing

I use -RVCompanion to keep track of what campgrounds we stay at and add details/little trip log to each entry. it has a leveler, flashlight, you can make Checklists and keep track of RV maintenance or whatever in the App as well. I mainly use it for a Trip log. I also have "Camp Where" it is pretty good to show all the different types of campgrounds on a map. I also have "AllStays, camp&RV" and "State Parks"

RE: Raise trailer above flood level

I'm presuming of course that we're not talking about tidal-wave like flooding, but a more or less orderly rise. This probably sounds wacky, but it's not an unheard of thing: Since you'll probably want a deck anyway, what if you were to set the P.M. on a barge/pontoon-like foundation that would simply rise with any floodwaters that came in? If you use the regular RV hookups rather than more permanent hard-plumbed ones, you'd need only to disconnect them from the unit if flooding threatened or when you battened things down at the end of the camping season. "The damage prompted the owners to rebuild the rink floor on airtight iron barrels, which would float in the event of another flood; the floats worked as planned during the area's Christmas flood of 1964 and the Willamette Valley Flood of 1996." End quote. As I recall, there are some sort of "guides" that slide up big poles around the floor's perimeter that keep the floor oriented correctly. That concept actually seems like the most doable and afforable to me. Build a "floating dock" around/under your trailer with dock styrofoam or whatever under it, put a 4" or so pole that extends 8 feet or so above the ground at each corner in a guide attached to the "deck". As the water rises the deck and trailer just floats up along the poles and back down. You could make it so you couldn't even tell it was meant for the purpose, it would just look like you built a deck around your trailer. Run a few 4x6's or whatever under the frame from one deck to the other and it would pick up the trailer.

RE: What are your favorite RV activities??

We love the complete lack of schedules. We eat, sleep, read, hike, walk, ride bikes, or do absolutely nothing as we feel like it. We just love it! Lack of Schedules....that sums it up perfectly for me!

RE: Military campers

My wife and I are Active Air Force, we just bought our first TT a little less than 2 years ago. If for some reason you are coming through Wichita, KS don't bother trying to stay at McConnell AFB's Fam camp, you'd be better off staying at Wal-Mart! they do have a several stage plan to build a new Fam Camp, when it is done it will be very nice!

RE: Keystone Bullet Premier

Has anybody replaced the rinky-dink exhaust fan over the shower? If so, what did you install in its place? Also, does anybody know if there is wiring in the vent area over the kitchen so a fan can be installed there as well? Our last camper was a Forest River and it has an awesome vary speed exhaust fan which I believe was made by SHUR-flo. It sure did pull the air and I’d like that again in our Bullet. I installled a MaxAir fan/cover on the bathroom vent, made a huge difference! I can't answer the Kitchen vent wiring question, I put a MaxAir cover on that one without the fan, if i need to suck out air from the kitchen I just turned the fan on in the bathroom, it moves a LOT of air!

I have a Boliy and I have no complaints at all with it. I didn't get remote start but did get electric start. Very much worth checking out.

RE: Keystone Bullet Premier

I've found that I'm glad I have curtains instead of doors, takes less room, easier...when I wrote that post two years or more ago I was comparing it to other TTs I had looked at and most of those had doors, at the time I thought doors would be better, but I disagree with that thought now!

RE: Stupid and dangerous?

If it were I, I'd trade the van for a heavy duty pick up and carry the bike in the bed. Another solution is to trade the trailer for a Toy house trailer and carry it there. We're supposed to leave this Saturday as mentioned several times in this thread so there is no time to sell the Savannah and buy another vehicle. I called the TN Police and it's legal as long as the headlights and blinkers are not blocked. They're partly blocked. There you go, it's legal. Compromise with him and don't drive during darkness. Don't stress yourself too much about it. If he cares this much about the motorcycle, surely he isn't going to take the chance of putting it on something that isn't going to hold it....hopefully

RE: How do you log your mileage on your tt?

I keep a log of campgrounds that I stay in and how long, site that I stayed in, which ones would be good if returning to that CG in the future and what-not, I just do it for fun and see how many different places we go and stay, I want to see how many miles I towed the TT this year since we jused it a lot and I took a few longer trips in it. I keep all the info in an iPhone app called RV Companion, I keep a couple service items in it but not too intense.
