RE: UFO Workhorse Chassis VIN

I printed a parts breakdown for my UFO, and it gives me a workhorse part number W0010699 for the fan blade. If the number does not work for you I will give you my serial #. This is a workhorse number, not a G M number.

RE: fire extinguisher - fact or myth?

I carry three extinguishers, one inside and two large ones in the front compartments on right and left side. They all lay on their side, so I turn them over when I am servicing the motorhome.

RE: Aftermarket 50A cord reel info

I bolted a plastic hose rack on the wall of the compartment that the cord goes in, so when I pull the cord in through the opening in the floor I coil it on the hose rack, it makes it easy to deal with the fifty amp cord.

RE: 1969 Jeep CJ5

You might want to check how much it would cost to upgrade the rear axle to install locking hubs, then the transmission, transfer and drivelines are not turning when you are going down the road. I will not tow my 72 jeep 4 down, as the wheel bearings do not handle the long periods of high speed towing, and if I break something it can go home on the trailer. Replace all the wheel bearings, and carry the old ones.

RE: Do You use a Brake Buddy?

I have been using one for 10 years, and the one time I had a full size chevy pickup crosswise in front of us and if it was not for the brake buddy we would have hit him in the drivers door it made me a beliver. There is no way we will go without one.

RE: Camping World on verge of explosive growth - Part 2

You want to see explosive growth, the advertising in the April May Good Sam mag. is about all that is in it. You have to go through page after page of adds for Cramping World to get to one page of things about motorhoming.

RE: side aisle motor homes

Look at Rexhall, I think there are a couple on e bay now with floorplans you might like. Our 2000 Rexhall had a center bathroom, and the rear slide gives you a large area between the closet and the bathroom to dress. Our 2008 Rexhall has the bathroon in the back, it is a very good size, and we really lke it.

RE: Why are air brakes used on DP instead of a

If the chassis makers were not so cheap they would have air disk brakes. Air drum meet presant minimum stopping standards. When standards are increased enough you will see all vehicles with disks. In europe all large trucks have disks. My 2008 Workhorse UFO chassis with hydralic disks has the best brakes you will find on a motorhome. It will outstop any drum airbrake equiped motorhome with the same weight by far. All hydralic brakes have a double master cylinder, so if you get a leak you will not loose brakes to both axles, plus you have the parking (emergency brake) as a backup. I was raised riding in trucks, and you name it, and I have driven it, and the worse brakes on a new vehicle are by far better then the best brakes they had when I started driving.

RE: Electrical fire hazard from using electric space heaters

There were a couple of unused terminals in the breaker panel, so I ran a seperate circuit for the heaters that does not run through the inverter. I installed 3 plugs, one in the front, the bedroom, and the bathroom. Rexhall has a power management system that will cut out circuits if to much power is used, so I wired into the system, and if both heaters are on and the electric water heater, or the microwave are on it will cut the power to the heater circuit until the amp draw drops. It also works for the rear air conditioner when we are on 30 amp service

RE: Cherry Hill Campground in DC

With the cost of food and bottled water (in many places $3.00 a bottle) in DC have the kids wear backpacks and take water and snacks.

RE: Anyone have trouble parking with full wall slides?

We have an 08 Rexhall with two full wall slides. I have never been in a campground that we would not fit. Sometimes it can be a little work to make it clear trees. I made a cheater to check if I am close. I Used 3/4 " pvc, a t, and rubber tips. I cut two short pieces and put them in the t to come out the same width as the slide. I put the the long piece in the t, then held it up to the top of the slide to find how long I needed. I cut it to lenght, and glued on the rubber tips. I have not used it very many times, but it only takes a second to grab it and check power poles and trees.

Workhorse UFO chassis turn signal switch

I have discovered that with no key in the ignition if the turn signal switch is bumped and pushed down the left turn signals will come on but not flash. I checked with other UFO chassis owners and three checked and theirs did the same thing. I sent an e mail to Workhorse and will see what they say. If you have or know someone with a UFO chassis be aware that you can kill a battery and wonder what happened. If I had not gone out looking for one of our cats it probably would have been on for several days.

RE: My batteries got stolen!

If you leave it in a place the batteries may be taken put in some junk batteries, they will get what they deserve, and you will not have to pay to get rid of them.

RE: Anyone use air horns? I just installed one.

Want to be truck drivers!!!!! I have driven trucks most of my life, and I can count on one hand how many times I needed it and still have several fingers left.

RE: Tent that looks like a VW microbus!!

If I still went out tent camping in my jeep that would fun to have, it would be a must have for the rubicon jeep trip. I would set up camp at buck island lake, and just being camped there when a bunch of jeeps came through would be a start of a good party.

RE: Tinting windows

You need to know what is legal in yor state. A good glass shop that does it will know how much you can do.

RE: FMCA Menbership

i did use my lifetime members card instead of giving them the phone number of one of my friends that pays yearly camping world dues and never uses it enough to save what the card costs him.

RE: FMCA Menbership

I have a lifetime good sam membership, and the junk emails and junk mail drove me up the wall. I was close to calling them to drop my membership, then I found they had an option to stop the junk mail and junk e mail. I did not think it would stop, but it did work, so I am still a member. We have a camping world close, but it rubs me the wrong way to have buy a card to get the better price, so they get very little of our business. I found out they will give you $5.00 credit for dead car batteries, so I took 3 old ones in,used my good sam card, and picked up a couple of small things I needed at the lower price and was out there for $6.55.

RE: Can the water tank overflow create a vacuum?

I have had the same problem, and I have stoped the flow by putting a piece of hose on the end of the drain hose and blowing into it until all the water is out of the line, if the tank is not overfilled it will not start again.

RE: Custom Built DP's....NOT the Usual Suspects.......

Sometimes smaller is better, Rexhall is a smaller company, that has a very hands on owner. When we bought ours we took a factory tour, and the man that gives the tour was off, so Bill Rex gave us our tour. At the time they were custom building two right hand drive coaches for customers in Australia. Check out their website, and you will see they build a lot of custom coaches. My experience has been they will do what it takes to make things the way you want.
