RE: Onan generator shuts off after 25 min of running

Ok, its been running fine for an 1 hr 15 min, more than twice as long as it would run before. Is it safe to assume I need to replace the fuel line? You are safe to assume it is a fuel problem. My guess would be the fuel pump.

RE: Onan generator shuts off after 25 min of running

Had the same issue on our Onan 5500. It turned out to be the fuel pump. They are about $100 in the net. Some are easy to change, others more difficult. Need exact model number when ordering part.

RE: TOTAL NEWBIES, looking for assistance intelligently

I did a simple Google search on "RVing 101". First two hits give an example of the information available. They were First hit and Second hit. There is a lot of information out there, this forum being one of the best.
Have fun and just enjoy yourselves.

RE: Terrible Service

The following is a better explanation of the "unlimited mileage"
Unlimited Distance Towing to the Nearest Network Service Facility
Good Sam Roadside Assistance will pay 100% of your towing fees to the nearest network service facility, even for specialized RV towing, and even if the distance is HUNDREDS of miles!
So, as I understand it - they pay to the nearest shop in their network, not one of your choice. But there is no limit on the distance to that shop.

RE: Left the trailer with the black tank wide open

It could be worse. I had my MH in for repairs and they left the black tank open but I was not connected to anything. When I pulled the cap off at the dump station I discovered their mistake. Reminded me of a scene in the movie "RV". I was not a happy camper.

RE: 95 Richmond - Fredericksburg

We have stayed at the Americamps CG in Ashland, just north of Richmond. It is just off of I95 and worked well for us. It is now a KOA. Here is the link.

Baltimore to Nigara Falls?

We will be driving from Southern Maryland to Niagara Falls at the end of May. The map software has me going thru Baltimore but from there they give options. This is a link to the maps results - Clicky. Can anyone who has taken this route recommend which would be best (US-15 N, US-219 N, or I-83/US219 N)? Thanks

RE: RV wreck Hard to understand

Quick everyone, let's rush to judgment before we have any facts. We need to make sure we condemn to prove we are superior to others when in fact he may have been a farm boy with more towing experience then most on these boards will ever have. The one fact that has been reported is that the driver was 17. Yes, he may have been an experienced driver, we do not know. The best I can get from the reports is that this was a large vehicle (GVWR over 26K) and a moderate to large trailer. In my state, that would require a Class B and maybe a Class A license. Also, the best information I can come up with says that you must be 18 for a Class B and 21 for a Class A. I could be wrong, the information on the web is sketchy.
Either way, this is a tragedy. I hope everyone will learn from this accident and not judge others. The driver (no matter the age) needs to be experienced and trustworthy before driving a vehicle with that many passengers. But we do not know the cause of this accident and should not assume it was the driver's fault.

RE: Microsoft Security Essentials say's im not validated

This is not an issue with MSE. You have an unregistered version of the Windows 7 operating system. That means you either forgot to register it and you may have a bootlegged copy. If you have a valid key for Windows 7, open a command prompt (Start->Run->cmd.exe) and type "slui 3". It will then ask you to enter the key. There is a space between slui and 3.

RE: Does reciprocity apply to total length?

Each state has their own regulations for equipment without reciprocity. In MD you are required to stop at the weigh stations with any vehicle over 5 ton GVW. I checked with the state DOT and they said that is the law but it is not enforced for RVs. The max length in MD is also only 55 feet; again, that is not enforced.
Like others have said; be courteous and avoid being stopped by the LEO and you will not have any problems.

RE: Nominate the worst highways for Motorhomes

I lived in SoCal for 27 years. The roads in the east are much worse. But I may be just bragging.
I am surprised that no one has mentioned I95 in South Carolina. I keep thinking they are going to repair it, but not the last time we drove up the coast.

RE: Our first tow with the Honda Fit

Did that ONCE. Left two nice trenches down the gravel driveway. Luckily I looked in the rear view mirror and noticed the damage to the driveway.
I was once on the DC beltway when I noticed a MH going the other way towing a nice SUV. Heavy smoke coming off of all four wheels on the SUV. Don't know the reason but my guess is something with the break-away cable.

RE: "Thermo Pane Windows" -- To Buy or Not to Buy ??

I have them in our MH and would not be without them. In southern AZ you could get into temps over 100 degrees. You should have insulated and tinted windows installed. Otherwise you will be pushing the capabilities of your AC.
The gas in the insulated windows does not do much for the R factor but may help with the fogging inside of the two panes. We do have one windows in the MH that has broken the seal. I have yet to get it replaced. It is flat glass so I should be able to go to any glass shop. They can custom make just about any flat window using the existing window as a pattern. I used to work in the glass industry that made insulated glass.

RE: iPad compatible printer

Search the net for "airprint server". You will get some hits with instructions on making your Windows machine an Airprint server for your iPad. You should then be able to use all of your existing printers.

RE: Need advice on RV magazive article

There are some gross misconceptions in the article. It is assumed that the limiting factor in towing with the minivan was the engine and transmission. The other factor is the frame (or lack of). It is a unibody frame that can only take so much weight bolted to it with a hitch. It is almost all sheet metal, not a strong boxed frame. That has not changed since the minivan came out.
There is also a misconception that a bullet shape means much less drag when towing. Only partially true. When you push (or pull) something through the air you must displace the amount of air equal to the square footage of the front of the vehicle. This does not change no matter what the shape of the front end. The shape does make it smoother while moving through the air and helps with the drag coefficient. But most of the drag is due to the air you have to move out of the way.
Bottom line - don't do it. It is very unsafe to tow something that large and that overweight.

RE: Upgrade Brakes?

I put new rotors and ceramic pads on one of my cars. The ceramic pads take a little more pressure to stop but do not put out any dust. I don't know if I would recommend them for a truck pulling some weight. But the rotors are much better. The OEM rotors warped within 20K miles. The new rotors (from TireRack) are much smoother and are not showing any signs of wear.

RE: Cracker Barrel parking?? Safe?

We only have had one bad experience. We went to the CB in Williamsburg, VA, for lunch. In broad daylight someone busted the lock on the MH and stole some luggage and electronic equipment.
I have to admit that I think I would be safer at a CB parking lot than at a WalMart. WalMart is not bad, just a lot of people hanging around at night. Not many people in the CB parking lot after they close.

RE: MH dropped off wrecker truck

Had a wreck in the car two years ago. Other persons fault. Our insurance company handled everything. To be honest, I was not happy with the results and got rid of our insurance company after it was settled. ($14k repairs on a car worth $12K).
IMPO, You should consider getting a lawyer involved. There are too many parties involved. Your insurance company, the tow trucks insurance, maybe auto club, and could even include home owners insurance. Then there is the chassis damage versus the carriage damage. This could get complicated, bring in a pro.
