RE: changing a bulb

Probably notches in the globe. Turn it slightly and pull it down, it may be tight but that's how mine work.
I'm guessing that this is the answer.

RE: Balance Between Planning the Trip and Being Flexible

Just an FYI August is Sturgis Bike week in SD. Finding cheap or even a possible spot for your RV during August 6 - 12th might be nigh on impossible.
a good "catch" and good advice. avoid rushmore, etc., at that time.

RE: Balance Between Planning the Trip and Being Flexible

make reservations at the "hot spots" so you know you have a site for the proper time frames and wing it between allowing a bit of extra time in case of issues or if you want to stay longer at some newly found location enroute. IMHO no, you don't have to do one or the other,

RE: New window in door The best !

EDWIN solves a problem I didn't know I had for the last 8 years.
it solves a non-problem that I have had for the last 20 years. you have to open the door, step out and open the window then close the screen door and the main door? logistically sort of ??? then when you want to close the window, have to open door and go outside again?

RE: Fuel Issues & Prices - Post 'Em Here!

I think that any savvy car renter knows to fill it up a few blocks further away from the return spot. I mean the gas gauge doesn't fall to 3/4 in 3 blocks.
of course you could always return the car non-filled up and see what that costs you at the avis counter. :)

RE: Grey Tank Sizes

Somebody needs to close this thread, the whiners and name callers have arrived and this thread has gone to the dogs..............
Steve
since you obviously can't see the difference between dumping 2 gallons of soapy water on the ground and 75 gallons of soap/grease/body particles on the ground, perhaps it should stay open for educational purposes.

RE: Grey Tank Sizes

What do tent campers do when they wash their cookware and dishes? They dump it on the ground and when they wash up that goes on the ground too. Whats the difference?
JMHO
Steve
IMHO the difference is primarily in volume. a tent camper doesn't haul 75 gallons of water in to use and dump. a tent camper has at most a small hanging black container of water to heat up and take a mini shower or hand washing. there is a very large difference.

RE: Rate Your Sprinter-based Rig!

IMHO block foam, etc. has it head and shoulders above fiberglass batts. foam won't soak up water in the first place.

RE: Rate Your Sprinter-based Rig!

What I'd like to see are videos that show every important detail of construction, and particularly the ways in which the mfr feels their rig is better than average and why. The PC video had some of that -- they mentioned continuous wire runs instead of junction boxes and splices, brass fittings instead of bends in the water supply tubing, and
I am not convinced that not having junction boxes around where it would be possible to trouble shoot an electrical problem is worse than a continuous wire run. I believe that in my house most of the wall outlets are NOT continuous run but are jumped from box to box?
also a bend in copper tubing will not leak whereas a connecting fitting can. please do not be mislead by various manufacturer's claims.

RE: Rate Your Sprinter-based Rig!

OCCC is now the new term and by law (since 09 or so) it is calculated the same for all RVs. Vehicle as delivered to customer with full load of fuel, and LP is the base weight. One than adds people, water, and cargo. Those are part of the OCCC.
So they just went back to the previous-old system, leaving out the number of seats, beds,or whatever.
the old is new again. :)

RE: Rate Your Sprinter-based Rig!

The one item missing that really needs to be examined on a sprinter class C is the CCC. Slides and storage are nice but with 11030 gvw you need to be careful!
Very good point -- I should have included that in my list (above).
There can be a very large spread in CCC. Some rigs I've looked at on a Sprinter chassis have as much as 2,000 lbs CCC, others have less than 1,000 lbs -- about the same as a compact car!
be careful when you check out the listed CCC. a few years back the small Winnie had different CCCs listed for two of the models, one with the double bed and the other without. upon checking they calculated the one with only one passenger/sleeper so obviously it had more available CCC on exactly the same chassis.

RE: Need to change out the bathroom fan

I think he is talking about the Turbo Maxx fan. I have had one of those and it is, in my opinion, better than the Fantastic Fan that I have now.
Barney
You are correct Barney, the TurboMaxx is what I am talking about and yes it is better than a fantastic fan. the noise moves out away from the vent and it can be operated in the rain. some folks put this type of cover over their fantastic fans instead of just doing it right in the first place.

RE: Rate Your Sprinter-based Rig!

My only complaint might be the jacknife sofa, which is uneven when opened into a bed. The back half is lower than the front. Drives me nuts. Will be looking at a fix, but then that is more of a complaint against the furniture maker. .
For the record, NO jackknife sofa is comfortable. the closest replacement that is is the Magic sofa bed, bradd and hall.

RE: 95 Richmond - Fredericksburg

Just curious but why 95 to 17, etc.? The traffic north of Richmond is horrid.
Richmond to 17 is only about 50 miles and unless there is a wreck, it is usually not "horrid". now I-95 north of 17 is in fact horrid. :)
If you hear on your CB that there is a problem on I-95, you can always divert over to 1 to bypass it.
It is way out of the way to go over to I-81 at Richmond, and you can wiggle cross country on two lane roads Richmond to Front. Royal, but I wouldn't recommend it.

RE: Rate Your Sprinter-based Rig!

In addition to being subjective, the problem with these scores is that they cover each mfr's entire model line -- which might range from the largest class A diesel pusher rigs to class B van conversions and everything in between.
In your opinion, are the ratings at rv-coach.com relatively accurate? Do they apply to the mfr's Sprinter-based class B+/C rigs?
Thank you.
for the reasons you state, IMHO the ratings are fairly meaningless. A "high line" RV buyer may have greater expectations than an entry level one and thus more complaints. People have whined about problems with their RV, blaming the manufacturer, when 90% of the issues are with appliances, etc. from third party suppliers.

RE: Campgrounds in Nebraska and North Dakota

Mahoney is the best option, but not if the OP is intent on cruising up I29.
Must be something happening up in ND to go that far north and then turn left.
Granted, I'm a bit biased being from Nebraska, but I'd rather take I80 across into WY or even better, wind your way up to the Black Hills on two lanes like HWY2
when I went to yellowstone I went up and across I-90 and dropped down into yellowstone from the north, which is not very far south of I-90.
and I would not go across Nebraska on I-80 as it is loaded with trucks. when My BIL went out that way often and he would take hwy 30 in Nebraska to avoid i-80. and if ones goal it to get to the park, piddling around on 2 lanes is not my cup of tea, especially since you can pop over a hill at any time and find a tractor towing a manure spreader in front of you. ;)
