RE: UV filteration in FW tank...

ROs can be plumbed so that the waste water returns to the holding tank. Zero waste. not practically for a RV IMHO. a small under the sink unit could be plumbed back into the fresh water tank. bumpy

RE: Minnesota Fishing Trip

Ah, Bumpy,MN has great fishing, with plenty of "real" fish, including LM bass. Or walleye, pike, musky, SM bass and plenty more. Not sure how you came to the conclusion that 6" trout was all it has to offer, but I can assure you from my own fishing trips to MN that statement of yours is WAY off base. I agree since both of my grandparents were from MN, Tyler and Askov, and I spent a lot of time fishing in MN. just was a bit upset at their extremely high temp fishing license cost. my 6" trout was referring to what some trout fishermen consider to be game fish, I consider to be bass bait. :) bumpy

RE: UV filteration in FW tank...

Second there is no such thing as a "UV Water filter" The UV light only kills bacteria etc, it does not filter the water. a good point, corrects some possibly misconception. bumpy

RE: UV filteration in FW tank...

Hi, Check ebay for uv based water systems. To keep costs down, standard filter sizes ought to be used. That causes some problems in an RV. One is space, another is winterizing, water use is high with 3 gallons wasted for each gallon treated. methinks you are working RO into the discussion here? and my goodness, where/who supplies your water at home to need all of that? bumpy

RE: UV filteration in FW tank...

UV used in fish tanks are far from fool proof (bulbs age, get dirty etc) --- not needed and likely not dependable enough to eliminate std sanitation measures that RVers typically use. AMEN, I used to inspect various RO/DI/WFI water systems in pharmaceutical plants and the maintenance of the UV light systems was always an issue. In a RV it is more a placebo effect IMHO. need too strong a light in a very close proximity to be of real value. bumpy

RE: KOA Resort Fee

We will never stay in one again. Last one we stayed at after checking in we were informed the pool was closed because of a private party, so couldn't use the pool, but were charged full price for the site. The cable connection was horrible and the truck noise from the hiway was so bad we could have been parked at a truck stop. Overpiced for what you get. The one we stayed at before the last one had sites that were so uneven we couldn't get level and the place was not well maintained at all. No KOA for us anymore! your post would be more beneficial if you would identify the two KOAs you had issue with. then we could evaluate your complaints and avoid them if we are in agreement. I have checked thru my campground database before and found that the overwhelming majority that I have stayed at I give a positive review to. but I am not the type that would pull into a truck stop and try to sleep next to idling diesels. bumpy

RE: Outside motion light

I love them and have had them on my last 3 units. Only problem we get is the wildlife at cretain campgrounds give it a workout so we end up turning it off. thanks for confirming my point, but I have never stayed at a Cretan campground. :) bumpy

RE: Minnesota Fishing Trip

last time I was there looked into getting an out of state license. was quite expensive and I decided against it. you may want to check out other states, SD, etc. Missouri had a by the day setup you could pick and choose any assortment of days you wanted. and they have "real" fish there. bumpy :S You really don't fish a lot do you. not quite sure how you came to that conclusion, but since I own a house on a lake, you are wrong. Just making the point that Missouri has real game fish, LM bass, instead of 6 inch trout to catch. :D bumpy

RE: How many miles would you travel in 1 day?

snip You've spent a bunch of money on something with which to have fun. Why not do something fun with it? Spending your (ample, as it turns out) non-driving time in a parking lot is not fun, and when children are involved, is a pretty bad idea. AMEN bumpy

RE: New battery for TT what is best?

Then go by specifications, warranty, and price. I would add since RVers are somewhat mobile, to also worry about where you can get replacement under warranty. that is what is great about buying from WalMart. almost as common as a $9.00 a cup coffee place. bumpy

RE: How many miles would you travel in 1 day?

I drive 900 miles in 14 hours. You must be in a hurry. :E and must be in western Kansas etc. where nobody is on the road. an average of 65 mph, with I assume at least one stop? let us know where you are driving so we can avoid that stretch of road. bumpy

RE: KOA Resort Fee

Got ripped off at one KOA, will never stay at one again. Rates are over the top, and they're no nicer than most others. X2 excellent decision, make your final decision based on one experience. bumpy Same experience several times...Most KOA's are franchised and KOA home office has no "real" control over the local owner. I only stay at KOA as a last resort. I guess some are used to being squeezed like sardines and treated this way...not me. :B I have been at KOAs on a couple of occasions when the KOA inspector/bus is present checking out the campground for compliance. with a KOA you can usually count on them meeting a certain minimal standard, whereas with an independent you are totally in the dark as to their procedures and policies. and I am somewhat amused since in some of these threads people whine about adding fees on for upgraded amenities and in other threads people fuss because the rate is high and includes playground, etc. etc.wi fi, etc. which they didn't use. I have paid maintenance for swimming pools and have never used one, playgrounds and have never used one. Like I say, if you don't want to pay, stop at a wal mart and enjoy the scene. bumpy

RE: Considering a MH

Now...if something goes wrong that is related (or might be) to your unauthorized mod...then yeah.... But I think you go overboard on the doom-n-gloom stuff a bit. Your right I did. Dull moment here at the moment. Day dreaming what a gasser with the back end torn off would look like. not too far out of line IMHO. I remember reading about somebody who had a warranty issue, I think transmission related, and the person wrote in that he had changed the oil at 5050 miles or some such when the interval was supposed to be 5,000 miles and the claim was not approved. absolutely no connection between this and the failure. but I agree, the toaster and can opener would probably still be covered. bumpy

RE: Pulling double trailers

A fifth wheel setup is not a trailer, it's a fifth wheel and you can attach a trailer to it and you are legal, the thing you need to consider is the length, that's where you'll be breaking the law. I believe that you are totally wrong in many states. in fact in MN it is, or it was, that it had to be a pickup, 5er, and boat to be legal. bumpy

RE: New vs Used

when an old/used truck is just a few thousand less than a new one with warranty, lower finance cost if you don't pay cash, etc. I can't see buying used. bumpy

RE: Pulling double trailers

I saw a DP pulling a full sized pickup pulling a boat on I-95 in Virginia so using some folks here logic, it must be legal in VA. bumpy :S

RE: Minnesota Fishing Trip

as I remember Mille Lacs lake it is very large but very shallow. waves can kick up dangerously fast and high. I would not recommend this lake for boating with kids in a small boat. Leech lake, cut foot sioux, might be better for finding a secluded cove, none of which exist on Mille Lacs. bumpy
