Hott Rod Stopped Functioning.
I purchased a hott rod 4 years ago when I was having problems with the LPG working on my HWH. It has served me well, but after not using it a couple of months, I returned to my RV and it no longer functions. The electrical connection is good and the unit was fired up with water in the tank. I pressed the reset button and made sure the thermostat was fastened tightly to the tank. Before I left, I drained the tank and the anode rod/hott rod looked fine. Do these things eventually burn out? I've probably had a total of one year's worth of service. Anyone else experience similar problem or have ideas for a fix?

A six year old computer is the equivalent of a 25 year old car; the beauty is that it won't cost you a fortune to replace it. You could buy a $199 netbook at Walmart and it would be 10X better than what you have. It doesn't cost that much more to buy more than you need and in doing so, you will fend off obsolescence for a year or two. If you're a Costco member, I would suggest looking into their Made in America ZT line. Great bang for the buck. I've been using one for almost a year and am completely happy with it; also, you can significantly extend the warranty by using an AMEX card. For no additional cost, I turned a one year mfrs warranty into a 3 year warranty.

Has anyone even heard of "GuestRated.com... a sort of TripAdvisor for the outdoors set"??? I for one have not. Funny, as a RVer for a number of years I always thought RVParkReviews.com filled that need quite nicely.
Very few actually have any reviews at all, but a few have many many reviews. Example.. Ocean Lakes in Myrtle Beach has over 300 reviews, while PirateLand next door only has 3.
I'm also a solid believer in RVParkReviews.com; that's my #1 go to place. My guess with this newer site is that some CGs are pushing their clients to write reviews (or perhaps writing their own reviews under various aliases) while others do not. Like Trip Advisor, you have to be careful with posters who only have a review or two online. A friend recently opened a restaurant and encouraged all his friends to write reviews; a less sophisticated reader might think his place is the best place in town but they'd be wrong.

A dumb story line from someone whose only experience with an RV might have been getting POed because one was moving too slowly for her tastes. This could have been a much better story and more properly researched by looking at a Woodall's, Good Sam or RV ParkReviews.com list.

While the list seems to have been compiled from the votes of people who live in the East, or Eastern Midwest, thought the article might be of some interest. The author doesn't really "get" RVing and refers to us as a bunch of campers while poking fun at those who use WiFi (instead of "getting away from it all"). While I can't speak for the quality of the parks that won, it seems that the one thing the author got right is that most of us want good WiFi.

Another rote for Verizon. It's hard to find anywhere that Verizon doesn't work and they have "old school" customer service, meaning that they care about your business and resolve problems instead of passing the buck. I wish all companies treated their customers as well as Verizon does.

Please Describe Your Problem/Question in the Subject Line
This is my annual post to encourage forum members to help others as well as themselves by posting problems/questions in the subject line.
I'm sure others just don't bother to open messages where the subject line is something like "Help" or "A question" or "What would you do?".
A quick review of such subject lines indicates that 10% of the postings here aren't giving enough info. I might suggest that instead of "Help!" you post "Generator Problem" and instead of "A question" you post "Tire tread failing" and well, I think you get the drift. OK, rant over. Happy Holidays to all!

I just got an estimate to replace the existing fake wood and carpet in ours with luxury vinyl for $4500. I want the vinyl, just have to see if I want it for $4500.
Wow! That's really high. I replaced all the carpet in a 36' Class A and the cost totaled only $1300 for Allure. It took a crew of 3 about a day, including pulling out the old carpet and replacing with Allure. I left the tiny wood portion in my kitchen area alone, but it only totals about 12 square feet. I had the work done in Austin.

Are All Elastomeric Roofing Compounds the Same?
I have a fiberglass roof, but need to occasionally "paint" new material around roof seams, antennas, vents, etc. I also seal over the original caulk on the top of the slide. In the past, I've used Camping World's Elastomeric for RV's (aka Dicor Elastomeric RV Roof Coating). They sell an elastomeric roof coating at Home Depot that costs as much for a gallon as Camping World gets for a quart. My question is, are all roofing elastomerics equal and am I getting ripped off buying one that says "RV Elastomeric"? Has anyone had success using big box products? It's about a 55 mile drive to the nearest Camping World and I don't want to wait to get the product shipped since it might rain this weekend.

Are you running an anti-virus program? If not, choose a good one like Norton and for around $40, you'll get a year's worth of anti-virus protection and will, in all likelihood, get the current virus removed. For a long time I went without anti-virus protection, but after a week of trying to remove a virus, I've never been without. Some ISPs (Comcast, for instance) offer anti-virus for free, so that might be an option for you. I am a bit surprised that you're having a problem since she didn't open the link. Hopefully the server support can help you but be prepared that they will consider it out of their responsibility. Let us know how this works out.

You can de-winterize at your first stop, unless the temperature is going to go well below freezing. Figure that the heat generated by using the furnace is going to keep your lines from freezing. But if you're worried, you can simply use the toilet. We stash a couple 2 liter bottles of water in our shower and use them to keep the bowl clean and smell-free. In the unlikely event that the water from the bottles freezes in the toilet, it'll have plenty of room to expand and will thaw as temperatures warm. We keep our two liter bottles in the shower all winter long even when we're not using the rig and they've never frozen, even when the temperature drops into the low 20's outside.

How full is the place down the road? How secure can you make your place? If you're only going to build a 4-plex, might it not be worthwhile to install an alarm system and enclose the whole thing right away? Or perhaps have a gated entry? Is security a big issue in your area? If I were storing with you, I would want electricity. I typically store all year, though I've recently decided that I'll store outdoors in a temperate climate rather than leave my rig in a building I own in OK. I'll risk storing outdoors for the gasoline savings. If you could offer secure storage with electrical for $200-$250/mo, I think you'd do well, assuming that the other place is turning people away.

RE: Hot Water Heater relief valve(?) leaking
I have a similar problem in a 1996 MH, though mine only drips a few cups worth a day. When I tried to break it loose, it wouldn't budge and I was afraid I was going to ruin my water heater, so now I just attach a hose to it and let it drip to the ground. Check the model number of the water heater for a schematic which might tell you how the valve is fastened then, at your own risk, put a bunch of Power Blaster on the threads and repeat several times. In my case, it didn't break the valve loose, but perhaps you'll be luckier. In a worst case, this might be time to call a plumber rather than risk damaging the heater.

You'll need to keep your eye on what's on top. A heavy load of snow and ice could damage the awning. I'd retract and re-extend the slide as needed to keep the awning clear.

This should work easily for you. You won't need a converter box since new TV's have digital conversion built in. I assume you have a coax connector both inside and outside of your rig; if so, you'll need to carry a 25' length of cable to hook from the rig to the campground connection and you'll need to buy a small length of same to connect to your TV from the inside connector. And, as previously mentioned, you'll need the VGA input on the TV as well as a cable to connect from TV to computer (buy this one on Ebay, since big box stores have huge markups on stuff like this).

A friend of mine drives his 43Ft HRDP from Idaho to Indio ca.he then contacts his insurer.They remove(suspend) the part of his insurance coverage thats needed to drive to his destination.When hes ready to go home in mid april he has them reverse this deal
Some companies allow you to do that, others don't. What I've found is that the companies that allow suspensions of coverage charge quite a bit more for their annual policies and it's pretty much a wash. I will continue to shop this, though I doubt any company would want me as a fully insured on day one and a very partially insured on day two through forever.

Here's the compromise I've come up with. I'll simply lower my liability to state minimum 15/30, drop the uninsured motorist, medical payments and collision. This will cut the premium in half and I'll still have comprehensive in the event of fire, theft or weather damage.
