RE: Twin Lakes near Bridgeport ca

Camped at Robinson Creek federal campground, last summer. Would say over half have full shade and the rest have some. Hard to get reservations. Good luck and enjoy. Many of the commercial ones along the creek have no shade. The big commercial one at the end of Twin Lakes has lots of trees and shade.

RE: Tire Pressure Monitoring System

TST saved my bacon with the original Chinese tires.. Any of the major brands would do the same. Most common seem to be Pressure Pro and TST. Great investment.

RE: Tire Pressure

I go with the tire load chart the engineers developed, not the side wall MAX.
Here's why: Used to inflate my tires to 80psi, then got a TPMS. Here's what I saw. 80psi leaving San Diego at ambient temp of 55. Hit the desert by ElCentro and ambient temp was 110. TPMS said PSI was 110-115psi and I only drive 60MPH. No wonder I kept passing trailers w/blowouts. They'd passed me doing 70/75. Bet their pressures were over 120psi!
Now here is what I see with my TPMS. Leave SD inflated to 65psi (per chart below). Hit ElCentro and tire pressure is around 90psi. Trailer rides better and I don't have overinflated bombs on my trailer...makes me feel better. Highly recommend you giving it a try. My tires seem to be wearing better too.
For my Maxis 235/80R16E:
weight-psi
2270-40psi
2430-45psi
2600-50psi
2730-55psi
2870-60psi
3000-65psi
3130-70psi
3260-75psi
3420-80psi

RE: Air Compressor

Just bought one of these at Lowes...best compressor I've seen. Works great on 12V or 120. Set the pressure you want in the tire, hit the switch and walk away. It stops automatically when it meets the pressure you set. Goes up to 120psi.
Cost less than $50 and fits under my truck seat! Love it:Lowes Kobalt portable compressor

RE: Michelin LTX M/S2 Tires

On my 3rd set of Michelin LTX M/S's. 70K on each set. Wear great, smooth, quiet ride. Only complaint is they spin pretty easy on gravel or grass. When I get to 210K miles, another set will go on.

RE: tire pressure monitors

TST saved our bacon going through LA. Low pressure alarm went off. Took the next exit, changed a badly cracked tire, pff and running in an hour. Replaced all 4 tires the next day.
I wouldn't tow w/o them, having seen some pretty bad damage done when folks have no clue they've lost a tire.
Any of the top three do the job, as far as I've read on these forums.

RE: Seaswift Inflatable Boat

We use an 11' inflatable bought on e-bay. Store it in the p/u bed. See link:
11' Baltik Boat
Under $900. Very durable. Been using it for 2 years. Takes an hour to set up (with hand pump and gin&tonic) and an hour to wash down and rebag. Has a keel so it paddles just fine.
Power it with a massive 3.3hp Evinrude. Great for trolling. Pulled in lake record trout (11+ lbs) at Lake Morena, CA.Fish Pic

RE: Diesel additives for pre ULSD engines

Like JMCKELVY, I have a kitty liter bucket behind the driver seat w/one gallon container of TC-W3 OBM oil, an empty quart bottle and a package of baby wipes.
Pour a 1/2 quart from the gallon container into the quart bottle, then pour a 1/2 quart into fuel tank every fillup. Use the baby wipes to clean up an drips.
Been doing this for the last 100K miles and the truck loves it.

RE: Boliy pro 3600si generator

O-ring on my gas cap disintegrated and rubber feet are gone too...small price to pay for 900-1000 savings over Honda/Yamaha. It is indicative of: get what you pay for. In spite of the many small problems I've had, still happy from a cost point of view.

RE: Boliy pro 3600si generator

Tips that have helped keep my Boliy running.
1. I added an in line fuel filter. It likes clean fuel. Bought it at Pep Boys for 25 bucks.
2. I don't turn it off. Instead, I close the fuel supply and let it run out of fuel. Seems to Keep the carb cleaner. If I don't do this, I smell fuel and get fuel leaking from somewhere (haven't been able to isolate the leak).
With the precautions/mods, it ran great our last 3 day boondocking trip (about 5 hours/day). Changed the oil when I got back. I've now got 115 hours and hope these mods will keep it running smoothly.

RE: Anyone use Fast Coolers on their NV4500?

I have them on my truck. It has a port so you can mount a gauge to monitor the temp if you are worried. Runs nice and cool on mine with the Fast...of course I don't know how cool it ran before I installed it.
Fast cooler
BTW I usually run 55-60mph in 4th and temps hover between 150-170 depending on outside temps. If I put it in 5th on the flats, they steady out at 180-200. Seems counter-intuitive but gas milage stays the same. Towing heavy in 5th supposedly puts a stain on a some bolt in the NV4500 so I almost always stay in 4th...
Hope this helps

RE: Hello everyone. Confused on correct tire pressure, advice?

Weigh your trailer when hooked up. Calculate the weight/tire. Go to the chart in the link. Look up your tire size. It will give you the proper cold inflation psi for your tires. Page 9 for ST trailer tires.

RE: Tire change on 5th wheel

Same as RedG. Drive other wheel on that side onto blocks, then jack the axle up on the flat tire. Did it in a Jack-in-the-Box parking lot at midnight in LA a few months back. In and out in about an hour. Kept the truck hooked up...didn't want to risk bending the front landing gear.

RE: TPMS saves my bacon once again.

I started logging trailer tire mileage after I got the Maxxis so I will post updates if: 1) I notice any unusual wear 2) have any type of failure 3) reach major milestones ie 10k, 20k etc.
WAG on what I got with the stock Marathons would be 15K miles, 20max.
Back to original post, I'm a firm believer in TPMS's...

RE: TPMS saves my bacon once again.

Mile High, agree, chart isn't the one I thought I linked to.
This one has the E ST235/80R16 rated tires I have on bottom of page 9:
Goodyear RV tire guide
My Trailer is 13,500 loaded for camping (CAT Scale):
2,600lbs hitch wt
2,750 on each tire
By the chart I could do cold pressure of just over 55psi...I choose to do 65psi cold. When they warm up the pressure steadies at 75-80psi.
I get a better ride plus the tires run much cooler (when I inflated to 80psi cold, the TST would show 100psi, much higher temps, and the trailer would bounce a lot more). Better ride, much cooler tire temps, in line with what Goodyear recommends and I'm avoiding 100psi pressure on warm days.
Seemed counter-intuitive to me but gave what the experts recommended a try and the results made me believe in their research...I'm confident I'll get much longer tire life out of my new Maxxis running this way.

RE: TPMS saves my bacon once again.

TST saved us going through downtown LA. Was able to get off the freeway and into a parking lot before tire delaminated or harmed the other one on that side.
Best to air up your tires according to the weight they carry. I used to inflate to 80psi but after getting the TST, it was kind of scary watching pressure get over 100psi on hot days. Might be why so many people have problems with trailer tires. Inflating to 80psi, coupled with cruising at 70-75mph on 100 degree days and you've got a China (or American for that matter..bomb). I now inflate to 65psi and don't drive over 60mph. Today the tire pressure settled at 75psi after a half hour on the road. (See link below):

RE: Prescott to Southern California

Don't miss Sedona area. Prescott is also nice. Then drop down to the 10. Quartsite is an interesting RV scene...some full hookukp campgrounds but mostly BLM land where 1,000s boondock and there are a bunch of vendors, everything from food to RV supplies to jewelery.
If that's not intriguing, skip it and hit the Colorado. Lots of nice campgrounds around Parker and a casino (Bluewater, just north of the Parker Dam).
Then work your way to Joshua Tree National Park (N. of I-10). No hookups camping but a great high (4,500ft) desert campground with great rock formations and lots of Joshua Tree Cacti. Great hiking trails.
Anza Borrego is also a nice desert camping, a little lower and hotter. The state park has full hookups.
If the desert is too hot, head up to Julian, Lake Cuyamaca, or Lake Morena. Lake C has trout year round and Morena stocks later in the year. They all have full hookup sites in very pretty/scenic areas.
Once in San Diego, lots of campgrounds. Pio Pico is in a nice valley outside Chula Vista. The KOA and and Chula Vista RV Resort and Marina are fairly expensive but nice urban RV Parks in S. San Diego. Sweetwater (lake) regional Park is neat, with hiking trails and horesback riding. Camperland by the Bay is central to the tourist sites (Sea World, Mission Bay, Old Town, Downtown, SD zoo, etc) but also expensive. Finally, Santee Lakes is a great place for a long stay...seems rural, reasonable price and you're pretty centrally located.
